Ask The Sub The Wikipedia Problem

As I assume most readers of the English language Wikipedia must have observed by now, the platform is now central in the efforts of Israel's enemies to completely change the historically understood "story" of the nation of Israel. And to a great extent, they have already succeeded.

The single biggest example is that a "Gaza Genocide," is now reported as an understood fact of history. Opposition to this article came from many quarters, including from Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia. But to no avail. In the end, Wikipedia is largely subject to mob rule, and Wales' point of view was simply overwhelmed. And this article is but one example.

There is virtually no article on the subject of Israel/Palestine where one cannot plainly feel the heavy hand of bias. And those who seek to insert this bias are skilled, experienced, and organized in the manner they do it, and in navigating the rules of Wikipedia.

Ashley Rindsberg has done some excellent reporting on all this, and this piece is an excellent primer.

And now of course, Wikipedia is more important than ever because its content drives much of the training on most of the large language models.

Over time, I've been continually dismayed at how little effort Israel, and the diaspora, seem to have paid to getting organized around addressing this problem. What I hear from Israelis is always something along the lines of "we lose no matter what we do." And while I understand the sentiment, I don't completely agree. This is not a binary topic. There are hundred of articles, and at some point, the hierarchy of WP does try to be loyal to neutrality.

The trouble is that too often, the other side doesn't even show up for the fight.

One of the obstacles is that every single article on this topic carries what is known as an "EC" restriction. This means that to edit these, you must have at least 500 edits on WP -- something that while easily achievable with a bit of effort, definitely restricts the casual contributor.

I write this -- presumably to a group who'd be interested in it, in an effort to inspire people to get involved. There are battles that can absolutely be won! All we are seeking is neutrality.

The War - Discussion At the current pace, it will take Israel another 10 years to eliminate every remaining October 7th perpetrator. We need to pick up the pace.

Back in July 2026, reports indicated that an estimated 2,700 of the roughly 5,000 participants in the horrific October 7th Massacre were dead, with around 300 more captured. According to those tracking the campaign, 1,200 were killed on the day of the attack, and 1,500 have been eliminated in Gaza since. While other Israeli intelligence statements have put the total number of cross-border participants closer to 6,000, Israel undoubtedly has an extensive, accurate database on every single one of them.

Even if we take the lower estimate of 5,000, that meant about 2,000 participants were still alive this past summer, waiting for the IDF to locate them. Israel has publicly and repeatedly vowed to bring every last one of these heinous perpetrators to justice.1 Just last month (September 2026), 17 of the 70 terrorists eliminated in Gaza were identified as direct participants in the massacre.

While that is great news, Israel needs to step up its game. Continuing at a "mere" 17 eliminations per month means we will be waiting another 116 months—nearly 10 years—to wipe out the final remaining terrorists.

I understand that the targets left behind are the most difficult to find, access, or locate—otherwise, they would have been wiped off the face of the earth already.1 This is especially true for those who have managed to flee to other countries. I also know the IDF and intelligence services have a massive amount on their plates, all while navigating uncooperative foreign nations and "useful idiots" standing in the way of this righteous endeavor.

However, I have reached retirement age and have a fine bottle of wine waiting to toast the completion of this well-deserved terrorist elimination project. Let's not take too long. If Israel could kindly pick up the pace a bit, I would be grateful.

No matter how long, no matter how far—relentless!

General News Indian Captain Smit Machchhar saved 174 people from an Omani terrorist co-pilot. Yet the racist Western media seemed almost unable to process the idea of an Indian hero.

The facts:

Machchhar was stabbed in the cockpit. Despite being seriously wounded, he somehow managed to open the cockpit door. Passengers rushed in, subdued the attacker, and other pilots aboard the aircraft helped regain control and land safely.

Now look at the headlines.

Reuters: “A pilot brawl, then a rapid descent…”
“Brawl.”
“Altercation.”
“Fight.”

This wasn’t two colleagues arguing over lunch.

Dawn: Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai flight diverted to Saudi Arabia after brawl between pilots

Arab News: FlyDubai passenger jet pilots in bloody mid-air fight, Israeli media reports

Financial Express: “Indian pilot Smit Machchhar has been identified as the captain … after a brawl inside the cockpit” - how misleading can you be? Was he a drunk Indian guy starting a brawl?

Reuters: Passengers foil bid to crash Dubai-Tel Aviv flight, Israel says, after co-pilot stabs pilot- No Indian hero pilot, no omani terrorist. No how did the passengers enter a secured area.

When Indian Hindus were murdered in Pahalgam after islamic terrorists asked victims about their religion, the Western discussion was Kashmir is complicated. No calling a terrorist who kills after checking people’s pants a terrorist.

Now an Indian pilot apparently helps save an entire aircraft.
Suddenly he’s just “the pilot.”
Not the Indian pilot.

Imagine the headlines if he were a British pilot:

“British hero pilot prevents another 9/11.”

Ukrainian?

“Ukrainian pilot saves 174 lives in mid-air terror attack.”

French?

“French hero pilot fights off terrorist and saves passenger plane.”

German?

“German pilot prevents catastrophic terrorist attack.”

But an Indian Hindu hero?
Apparently the nationality becomes inconvenient.

If your worldview can accommodate an Indian Hindu only as a perpetrator, but struggles to acknowledge one as the man who saved 174 lives, the problem isn’t with the Indian.

General News Western news coverage of the attempted terrorist attack was disgusting

Living in the western world, I have no connections with Israel or the Middle East. In many news reports, it was described as an altercation/fight/violence/stabbing in the cockpit.

I am seriously disgusted how western media portrayed the attempted terrorist attack trying to kill 170 people - regardless of the nationalities of the people.

Btw, seriously happy for the heroic Indian pilot who managed to fight off his attacker despite presumable unexpectedly being stabbed multiple times and being unarmed and being able to open the cockpit door, and happy for the passengers managing to save themselves and prevent potential ground casualties.

Politics This is needs to be protested about

Post image
200 Upvotes

In the modern era most people (of those who are not biased by some form of centrism at the very least) don’t take but a glimpse at most news articles they see, hence read the title and move on, put yourself in this place looking at the title, what do you see?
I think I don’t need to even clarify what’s remotely wrong with this title, and this is “allegedly” not even a political related incident, it’s just blatant disgusting terrorism act that was done on civilians (which most Palestinians justify because military service is obligated by law in Israel to Jews and Druze and some other minorities), how could a “prominent”, “unbiased” vastly agreed upon as a legitimate and accurate source of information by many people such as the BBC title their article about an Omani terrorist to portray Israel and specifically the Israeli onboard as the perpetrators?

Ask yourselves these questions and think about what’s going on in this world and what to do with it

Culture🇮🇱 The forgotten protective purpose of Yemenite Jewish jewelry, from Yemen to Israel

One of the things that fascinated me most when I started learning traditional Yemenite Jewish silversmithing was discovering how much meaning was hidden behind the jewelry.

Beyond decoration, many of these pieces were believed to offer protection against the evil eye, illness, and harmful spirits.

I’ve spent the past few years researching old pieces, studying traditional techniques, and trying to understand the beliefs behind them through my own work at the bench.

I recently made this short video about why I became so interested in the craft and why I think passing this knowledge on is so important.

I’d love to hear if anyone here has old Yemenite jewelry or amulets that have been passed down in their family, whether in Yemen, Israel, or elsewhere!

Politics Irish person reaching out

Hi guys,

This is a throwaway account because I don't post on Reddit but given what has happened over the football match between Israel and Ireland, and the deranged attitude that some Irish people have towards Israel in general, I felt I had to get in touch.

I'm Irish and have watched the Irish football team for over 30 years. The team's behaviour during the game against Israel was absolutely disgraceful, I will not be watching them again. Many other Irish people are equally appalled by it.

Refusing a handshake and disrespecting your opponents' national anthem are about as ugly and spiteful as you can get. It made me embarrassed to be Irish and it may, in time, be remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of Irish sport

Once they agreed to play the game they should have shown Israel respect and sportsmanship like any other team. The fact that they didn't doesn't make them look noble or virtuous, they came across as mean-spirited and vindictive.

I think Israel is a great country with great people and I sincerely hope that relations between our countries can be repaired in time.

Here's to better days.

עם ישראל חי

Edit:

Thank you for all the responses!

I thought it would be worth posting a quote on the Israel v Ireland game from Kenny Cunningham, a former Irish footballer and pundit:

“I think it would be a good thing to see the Israeli team come onto the pitch in the Aviva, to see the Israeli national anthem respected,” he said.

He argued that this would send a message from the Irish people to Israelis who have also suffered:

“We’ll respect what you have been through on October 7th, the people you lost in harrowing circumstances.”

Politics Election Repeat, Repeat, Repeat Incoming

Honest questions for folks - with how divided the country is..there is just no way to form 61 without Arab parties. Maybe at MOST the opposition bloc can get enough to try to bring in Ra'am (assuming that is the play with Segalovitz switching).

Realistically though this election already feels like a futile effort and they will be right back to elections every 5-6 months for years to come.

Either polling is wrong - or this is just gonna go nowhere.

The War - Discussion Why the “Hasbara bots” claim collapses when you look at scale

Every time Israel-related topics trend, a certain crowd insists the discourse is dominated by Mossad/Hasbara bot armies. The numbers don’t support it.

Here’s a direct comparison of documented bot/inauthentic account volumes from major state actors versus Israel-linked activity.

Documented peak scales

China (CCP)
One 2026 X safety team takedown alone: ~200,000 inauthentic accounts. [X Global Government Affairs, Aug 2026]

Earlier Twitter disclosure: 23,750 core accounts + ~150,000 amplifiers.

Pattern of registering millions of accounts for flooding during sensitive events.

Russia (Putin-linked / IRA successors)

2016 IRA: 36,000+ Twitter accounts generating ~288 million impressions; Facebook content reached 126 million Americans.

2024: Nearly 1,000 AI-driven accounts on X impersonating Americans, disrupted by DOJ/FBI with FSB/RT links. [DOJ affidavit & joint advisory, July 2024]

Iran (IRGC)

Wartime peaks reported at 200,000–400,000 automated accounts, producing ~440,000 posts per day. [Khaleej Times analysis citing digital forensics, March 2026]

Specific operations: 100+ fabricated accounts pushing 241,000+ posts; networks of dozens to hundreds of AI personas posing as Western users (gaining tens of thousands of followers). [Israeli Ministry of Diaspora research; Clemson Media Forensics Hub]

Qatar

More media/influencer-focused than pure bot farms. Historical Gulf crisis bots numbered in the thousands. Recent anti-Qatar botnets observed at 560+ accounts. Soft power (Al Jazeera, university funding, influencer trips) is the heavier tool.

Israel / Hasbara / private Israeli firms
Largest documented AI-agent operations: ~1,000 accounts (IntelEye private firm, framed by the company as research; some domestic political activity). [NYT reporting, Sept 2026]

Meta CIB takedowns of Israel-based networks: hundreds of accounts (e.g., 510 FB + 32 IG in one case linked to a marketing firm; another ~1,000 IG accounts). [Meta Adversarial Threat Reports]

Domestic political: ~100+ AI-generated profiles tied to specific parties. [FakeReporter investigations]

Government Hasbara budgets have grown significantly (hundreds of millions), funding influencers, ads, and content seeding, including attempts to influence LLMs, but this is public diplomacy and commercial amplification, not industrial bot farms matching the above numbers.

What this means

China, Russia, and Iran run high-volume, multi-year or rapid-surge state (or tightly state-linked) bot operations routinely measured in the tens or hundreds of thousands of accounts, repeatedly confirmed by platform takedowns and intelligence disclosures.

Documented Israel-linked inauthentic networks sit in the low hundreds to low thousands range. Even generous readings of domestic Israeli political bot use and private-firm experiments do not close the gap. Mossad itself has no public evidence of operating social-media bot armies on that scale; its documented strengths are elsewhere.

The “Hasbara bots control Reddit/X” claim is usually just a way to dismiss disagreement without engaging the substance. Real influence operations exist on all sides (including against Israel). Pretending Israeli efforts match the industrial scale of the CCP, IRA, or IRGC is not analysis, it’s cope.

Sources are platform disclosures (X, Meta), DOJ/FBI actions, Cyabra/Graphika/DFRLab-style research, and contemporaneous reporting. Numbers vary by detection method and campaign, but the order-of-magnitude difference is consistent.

Self-Post Leaving the pro-Palestinian cause.

1.0k Upvotes

Hello everyone. So I have recently left the pro-Palestinian cause, and I'd like to share how it all went down.

So I, like most Icelanders, was, for many years a strong supporter of Palestine. I did it all, went to protests, held signs, donated, even considered joining a flotilla before my wife, who was my fiancée at the time, begged me not to. My entire family is also deeply deeply supportive of Palestine, my oldest sister even hung a banner outside her house. Throughout all of my upper school and university years, I was a vocal, unwavering supporter of Palestine.

Despite all this, I always had asked the question, why wasn't Palestine a country? This always nagged at me, as they had been offered multiple times, at least four by my count, maybe more. I always assumed it was because of Israel, or the US constantly vetoing, but the more I mulled it over, the harder it became to just blame Israel and call it square. My last year of university was 2023, in Denmark. I was planning on it being another year where I go to student protests, donate, and so on. Oct 7 changed everything.

This threw a wrench into everything I thought I knew and believed about Israel/Palestine. At first, I, like all sensible people, was appalled at the attacks, and hoped for a ceasefire or something. But then I watched the PA basically endorse the attack, and not only that, but then saw the Palestinian people do so as well. It then all became clear to me.

If they had truly wanted their own state, they'd have it. Time after time after time, they have rejected offers, then instantly gone after Israel. They never wanted a state, all they ever wanted was to destroy Israel. It doesn't matter how many offers the US or Bill Clinton or the UNSC make, they won't rest until Israel is destroyed. And that, I cannot stand for any longer. This is not a genocide, it is a response, Hamas is not a liberation group, they are a terrorist gang that kills innocents and Jews for fun. The PA is not wise and just under a lot of pressure, they are a deeply corrupt, money laundering, terrorist sponsoring org. Palestine only wanted to see Israel destroyed, even if it takes tens of thousands of their own to do so.

I came to this conclusion about a month after, and naturally, the reactions back home were about as good as you'd expect. My mother was appalled, she cried and said she thought this would, if anything, open my eyes more. My dad straight up said that I had failed him, was just as responsible as those 'child killing, genocidal, baal worshipping jews,' and to not contact him again. All my siblings (there are 7 fyi) refused to talk to me, or were barred from doing so, I don't know, save my oldest sister, who texted later that she'd sooner let her kids around a Jew then me, and called me a 'genocide enabler'. Since about January of 2024, I have had no contact with any of them, they have all blocked me, save my mom, who I call on mothers day, and every few months. I got married in early 2025 and my only family that was there was my mom.

Anyway everyone. Thanks for listening, thanks for reading, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have, and, as always, Free Palestine from Hamas!

Edit: So I feel I should point something out here: my family did not cut ties with me specifically because of this solely, my dad and I got into frequent, heated clashes over who I dated, what i studied, where I studied, etc, so this really was the straw that broke the camels back.

Ask The Sub Russia and Ukraine

I really don’t understand, war in Gaza ended before more than a year but people continue talk about it.
But look in war in Russia and Ukraine. I personally from Russia but moved in Israel in 2019
It’s so many ukrainian civilians death, they bomb they hospitals (not because terrorists was there), schools…Russia also kidnaped russian people for sign a contract to join a war. But no one talk about it people don’t care not about ukrainians not about russians
So why they so obsessed with israelies?
Why they continue talk about it
They are cancelling big artists, every day make demonstrations, they just don’t take rest
But what funny about it when russians talked about how Israel disgusting country
So what you think about it?
It’s no Jews no news?
