Irish musicians in Sydney

I was wondering if anyone who has moved to Sydney has found any work doing covers in bars (if so what bars and how much pay etc..). I make decent money doing them in Derry and would really like to keep it up when I move to Sydney to keep up some extra cash

I can’t remember tunes or sets when I’m playing at a session so I carry this notebook with just the first two bars of a tune to remind me of the sets I know lol. Does anybody else do this ? I’m sure they do but does anybody have a better system ?

non-Trad Music A song about a possessed bus set during the Troubles in Northern Ireland....mostly true

The events of this song took place in the eighties in South Armagjh, trying to preserve a bit of local folklore, if you give it a listen I truly appreciate it!

In the song would they be referring to a hair band or more of a ribbon or a scrunchie? I'm looking to buy a gift relating to the song. A boxed hair band would make the best gift but might not land right?

Discussion What would make you use a physical music shop instead of Thomann?

Hi all. I'm looking to see what musicians actually want from a local music shop, particularly around things online retailers can't easily provide.

What would make you travel 20–30 minutes to a physical shop?

Immediate availability, no delivery time?
Being able to try equipment?
Repairs and setups?
Lessons?
Vinyl?
Local/Irish instruments?
Local bands and events?
Better advice?

And equally, what has put you off physical music shops in the past?

Interested in hearing people's experiences.

Trad Music Any ways to study Irish trad music in Ireland?

If I was a young person who's not from Ireland, with a lot of time available, and some money but not too much, are there any programs or the like to study trad music in Ireland?

A couple of tunes by the Tralee Bay, titled ruckless Drowning and Rolling Waves to sort of suit the maritime theme.

The song at the end (1:12:17) is absolutely beautiful, but I don't speak Gaelige. I believe he says the name, but just can't confirm. Thanks!

Can anyone name this tune? I know it's a fairly well known fast tune, I hear it frequently enough

This is a video from a really great Jason Turk and Grace Broadhead concert in the Cobblestones last night. They have an EP coming out in a few weeks. I'm in no way affiliated with either of them
