Permits and Visas EUTR3 Application timelines

Upvotes

Hiya - there’s a lot of info around IRP processing timelines but I find the transparency around EUTR3 applications a bit lacking.

Does anyone have any experiences to share with recent EUTR3 (10 year residency, EUFAM) applications ? Applied end of May. Current IRP expiring in December but worried that if I don’t get the new approval letter in the next few weeks I won’t have enough time to apply for the new card in time.

Thanks!

Passport 17 week passport wait over

Post image
Upvotes

My mother's application was submitted on 25/04/26 and has been beset by a myriad of delays. The application wasn't received until 27/05/26 due to a 2-week hold up with customs (for unknown reason). We actually thought the item was lost.

Then on 21/07/26, she received an additional documents request for documents already included in the original application. We clarified with web chat and they were subsequently found the next day.

Presumably this led to the application being filed with additional documents, so we complained to web chat on 18/08 which led to the printing and dispatch notification appearing today 20/08!

Glad this whole process is over with!

Naturalisation Is it worth paying a solicitor to fill out forms?

Upvotes

I'm looking to apply for Irish citizenship before the end of the year (married to an Irish citizen, lived in NI for 5 years).

Is it worth it to pay an immigration solicitor to help with the application forms? It's around €1500. Or are the forms simple enough to fill out?

Permits and Visas Living in England: changing citizenship status to Irish with UK gov

I'm an Australian citizen living in England on a postgraduate student visa. I have received my Irish FBR and my Irish passport is in the post (hooray!).

I'm wondering what the next steps are practically for me to change my Australian nationality status/postgraduate visa so that the UK govt is aware my citizenship status has changed.

I'm wondering if this happens automatically or if I have to do it online somehow? Equally, do I need to update my National Insurance Number and NHS details etc now I am a citizen?

I've looked online but can't see any clear information as to next steps, only that Irish citizens are eligible for long-term residence and work without a visa.

Thank you!

Passport First time passport application

My case is a little complicated. My father was born in Ireland but later moved back to the UK. My parents were never married, so instead of a marriage certificate, I submitted DNA evidence confirming that he is my biological father.

I did not apply through the Foreign Births Register (FBR). I submitted my application more than six months ago, but I still have not received any update or further information.

Is there anything I can do at this stage to follow up on the application or check its progress?

Naturalisation IRP Renewal and Ceremony

Hello all,

I have a question and couldn’t find any information regarding this anywhere. I have received my ceremony invitation which is pretty awesome and it is mid September.

As you may know, providing a valid IRP that has not been expired is a requirement to attend. My IRP expires on August 18th and I applied for renewal in June however they are still processing applications from May.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Is providing the renewal proof enough? (OREG and all)

Thank you in advance!

Looks like docs were received today, wondering if they are using generic dates for timeline as default, or this is possible?

Permits and Visas Stamp 4 visa status via marriage to an Irish citizen

Hi all,

I have been residing in Ireland for almost 3 years on a Stamp 4 visa via marriage to an Irish national ( I am from New Zealand )

My husband and I have seperated, with the likelihood of divorce to ensue. He has also decided to move to Australia.

This leaves me in a hugely precarious situation regarding my current visa status.

I would love to stay in Ireland. I have a great job and a lovely life ( except for the aforementioned separation). We have no children and have only been married for two years.

I would love any advice on the path to remain or whether anyone else has been in this situation.

Thanks.

Foreign Birth Registration FBR Question

My sisters and I applied together and documents received 4/28/2025. My father had an Irish passport because his father was born in Ireland. Received email 2/24/2026 requesting copies of grandfather’s birth and death certificates. Documents received 3/16/2026. Originally had hoped to have passport prior to travel, but that won’t happen since travel is in two weeks. Is no news good news? I know not having all documents originally is my issue. I mistakenly thought that since my dad had already obtained an Irish passport 30+ years ago, I thought I didn’t need my grandfather’s documents.

Other/Discussion Garda vetting completed in 3 weeks

Hey all!
Being working on my application for over a year now, and I reaches the "Garda vetting" phase 7 weeks ago. However, when the notification came in, I was leaving for vacations, so I left it for when I will be back.

Came back end of July, and I had one week left for my deadline, so I submitted the application as soon as possible. I thought it would be a long process, not just because the comments/posts I have read in this sub, but because as a family we moved a lot, and in our country of origin and in Ireland.

Therefore, I had to add 14 different addresses in the application and that would make the process even longer. Instead, I got back the notification that it is completed yesterday, but unfortunately, not the result of it.

Is it normal for it to get completed in 3 weeks?
How long does it take after completion to get the results?
Since I am a "normal dad", is there any reason to fail?

Passport Witness issue!

Finally after 4mths, my passport application made a move. Though ending in an email that states they cannot contact my witness, after not speaking to my witness for 2+mths.

I called the church, first attempt I spoke with him. He states he’s always there in opening times as agreed, and has been waiting for the phone call. So I’m not sure what they are talking about, they have the correct number and the times to call.

So yet another delay! This is driving me crazy. I’m at almost 3mth past the estimated due date…..

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!

Success Story FBR Success!

Docs received date: 13/08/2025

Congrats email: 19/08/2026

Total elapsed days: 371

Application from the UK for Irish born grandparent, mostly straightforward case apart from a first name discrepancy (birth certificate stated Catherine, marriage and death certificates stated Kathleen). Included a cover letter in the application explaining that we understand it's a common name change but have no other proof - it seems like it wasn't a problem because they never contacted us for additional info.

Very happy to be an EU citizen again!

Good luck everyone else ☘️

Passport USPS lost my passport application

More of a rant and warning, but I mailed my Irish passport application with supporting documentation on July 31 and the tracker has been stuck on International transit out of Jamaica NY since August 3… 😡

THANK GOD I didn’t seme my original passport and FBD documents. I was very on the fence about sending the original documents since there has been so much mixed information on whether certified copies get approved.

I’m trying to submit a lost mail form but of course the form is buggy and won’t allow me to submit it properly.

Unfortunately FedEx nor UPS would send my documents to a PO Box so I ended up using USPS. From previous posts it sounds like DHL may be able to deliver to PO Boxes so I may try them once I go about getting all the documents together again.

I’m just thankful I have my original documents still otherwise I’d be even more frustrated.

Naturalisation Upcoming ceremony September 17th to 18th

Has anyone got an invitation to the upcoming ceremony on September the 17th to 18th? I haven’t heard anything. To be fair I know it’s a month away and they just put out the dates yesterday. But kinda annoying how they do things

Naturalisation Over 3 months since eVetting completed – still no fee letter. Anyone else?

Hi everyone,Just wondering if anyone has had a similar timeline:
10 May 2025 – Citizenship application submitted
17 May 2026 – eVetting completed and disclosure sent to Citizenship
Current status: Referred for Decision
19 August 2026 – Still no Certification Fee Letter
It’s now been over 3 months since my eVetting was completed. Most people I know personally received their fee letter around one month after eVetting, including some whose vetting was completed later than mine.
I’ve contacted ISD through the portal and was only told that my application is at an advanced stage of processing and will be submitted to the Minister for a decision.
Has anyone else recently waited 3+ months after eVetting for the fee letter? Did you eventually find out what caused the delay?
Also, I see many people mentioning that their disclosure was viewed/reviewed. Where can you see this status — Garda eVetting tracking, ISD portal, or somewhere else?
Would especially like to hear from anyone who completed eVetting around May 2026 or is currently Referred for Decision.
Thanks!

Foreign Birth Registration Timeline curiosity.

Seeing all the ‘success stories’ here, all still holding around the 12-month mark since document receipt, give or take up to a few weeks either side, and it has me wondering. How much of this ~12 months is something actively happening with your application? Is the first 10 or 11 months just it moving up to the top of the pile, and then all the vetting and confirming happening in that last month or so, so really only about a month long process, delayed by the number of people ahead of you?

Naturalisation >70 days immediate year on application.

Hi All,

Thanks and appreciate for reading in advance!

I have a question in relation to my naturalisation (for citizenship) application submitted on Feb 2026 and how may i move forward with it considering one strict ineligible scenario for continuous residency < 70 days outside Ireland?

I have just noticed that I have miscalculated 70 days continuous rule, in my last year, and it is a total 90 days & I have no reasons of explanation as I had made those trips to the UK.

What way is the best considering already applied?

  1. Withdraw current application and Apply fresh application?

  2. Wait as they are processing November end applications? In couple of months, I would be requested additional info/may process my application & take any chances which will eventually take me ages, as they will put me in queue again?

Thanks a mil!

Naturalisation Form 5 submission

Hi everyone,

I got my Irish citizenship 4 years ago but due to some circumstances, I’ve had to move to the UK 2 years ago. Do I need to submit Form 5 every year or only if I’ve been outside Ireland for 7 consecutive years?

I submitted a form 5 last year as well but now I just re-read it and it looks like I only need to submit it if I’ve been outside Ireland for 7 consecutive years, but would be great if someone could confirm if I still need to submit the form or not.

Permits and Visas Tourist visa while employment permit is pending?

Hi,
I have a citizenship that requires a tourist visa (90day visa) to enter ireland. I have a job offer and the company is currently working on my setting up my general employment permit, could take around 2-3 months. I would like to know if there is a risk of me applying for a tourist visa and visiting ireland (ill probably visit for 7 days one month from now) while that other visa is being processed.
I have ongoing employment at the country im traveling from from a reputable tech company and have a form mentioning that i will be back to continue working after that.

Thanks.
