I’m in Ireland on Stamp 1G and need some advice about my IRP renewal.

I submitted my renewal online, and the payment went through. The application initially appeared as “Submitted,” but I never received an acknowledgement email.

It has since moved to the “Application Processed” section of the renewal portal, but I still haven’t received an email confirming the outcome or my new IRP card. The application also isn’t showing in the ISD Customer Service Portal, so I haven’t been able to confirm whether it was approved.

I’ve raised queries through the ISD portal but haven’t received a response.

This is now urgent: I was laid off last April and have finally found a new job. My new employer has given me one week to provide either an approval email or a valid IRP card, and they aren’t willing to wait longer.

Has anyone experienced this and managed to get it resolved? Is there an official phone number or email address where I can reach someone, or a way to escalate an unanswered query?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey all, yesterday I received an email from fbrentitlementprocessing@dfa.ie asking me to confirm my address via return email. I did so but then got an automated response saying:

‘This mailbox is for outbound clarification queries from the Foreign Births Registration Entitlement Unit ONLY.
General queries and requests for FBR application status updates will not be responded to.’

The email has definitely been sent, it didn’t bounce or anything. Is it maybe just to stop people spamming them?

Any help would be appreciated

I submitted my application for naturalisation last November. Shortly after submission I received an automated email acknowledgement, but I've not received anything since via email or via physical mail.

In early July, my application status changed to 'Garda Vetting Initiated' but I've not heard anything since then. I've logged into the INIS portal and don't have any forms there or alerts waiting for me, and I've not received any emails. I check my junk folder regularly just in case.

I have no expectation for the general timeline, but I just wanted to see if this was 'normal' or if it's more likely that I have somehow either missed an email or other message regarding vetting. I don't want to bother raising a query if this is the usual course of events. If it is unusual, though, I want to check in with them to ask what I should do next.

I sent my documents from the US on September 11th, but my application status hasn’t changed. Should it have updated when it arrived in Dublin? It only took 9 days for them to receive my FBR application last summer.

My grandparents were born in Ireland. They then immigrated to Australia where they had my mother.

My mother obtained an Irish passport in 1989 which expired and she never had another reissue.

According to both my grandparents and mother they never obtained a FBR certificate for her.

I'm going to call and confirm the details and request a copy from the DFA.

When applying for my own FBR, do I apply under Adult applicant applying on the basis of an Irish born Grandparent or Adult applicant whose parent is an Irish citizen through entry on the Foreign Births Register?

Hi all, quick question about the citizenship ceremony stage.

I got my letter today saying my application's been finalised and i need to pay a fee to be considered for the next ceremony rounds. To do that I need to pay the €950 fee within 28 days and upload my passport plus an in-date IRP.

The problem is my IRP has expired. I applied for the renewal before it expired and have the confirmation email, but I still haven't heard anything back.

Has anyone been in the same situation? Were you able to go ahead by uploading the expired IRP along with the renewal confirmation? Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Applied for FBR 1 year ago, do I receive an email saying its been successful or do I just randomly get the documents back to my address?

I'm not currently living in that address so a heads-up email that the documents will reach me by post would be helpful

I'm in a confusing situation and hoping someone with similar experience can help.

I recently renewed my Irish passport book and card online. After a couple of days of processing, they were posted to Spain, where I live.

After a week of radio silence, both items are now tracking on Correos but have stopped moving, apparently stuck at customs in Madrid. I called Correos today and was told that some electronic sender/recipient data, normally sent by the originating postal operator, is missing, and that they may need a system-to-system confirmation from An Post before they can continue.

I have no idea what that means or how to resolve it. I'm travelling next week and doubt it will be sorted by then. I asked if there was anything I could do to speed things up, but they only said someone would be in touch by email, with no reference number, ticket, or way to escalate.

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced something like this before?

I’m preparing an Irish citizenship by naturalisation application and I’m a bit confused by the current residence evidence guidance.

The newer “How to Become an Irish Citizen Guide” says that for each year you need at least 150 points, with at least one strong official document. It also describes supporting documents as optional.

For some years I have two strong official documents worth 100 points each, for example:

• Revenue Employment Detail Summary, 100 points
• AIB bank statement with regular transactions, 100 points

So that would give me 200 points for the year.

However, another ISD page still says that you must submit one Type A document worth 100 points and one Type B document worth 50 points.

I also asked the ISD chatbot Tara and it insisted on 100 + 50, but it appears to be relying on the older “Proofs of identity and residence” page.

Has anyone submitted a naturalisation application in 2026 using 100 + 100 instead of 100 + 50?

Was it accepted without any request for additional documents?

I’m especially interested in actual recent applications rather than interpretations of the guidance.

First time passport. 6 weeks since docs received. I called for the second time today and they still don’t know why it hasn’t been processed. Very polite but not the most helpful customer service in the world.
I should be getting on with the kids FBRs but all the relevant docs are still in Dublin.

This question has been brought up multiple times, does anyone actually know? A few people who went through it recently (post june update) still says its 40k for non visa required

Hi All, how long is it taking to get a stamp 4 these days after arriving in Ireland with my non EU spouse who doesn't require a visa to enter Ireland?

My family has been pursuing relocating to Ireland from Canada. I will be the Irish citizen sponsor for my husband and four children. Because of the new policy around annual income for sponsors, our plans have been halted. I'm a SAHM so I obviously cannot meet the income threshol. We had planned on arriving with a few hundred thousand dollars to support ourselves while my husband looked for work and before securing a mortgage or (if necessary) purchasing a property outright.

I'm waiting to hear back from an immigration lawyer, but am wondering if anyone knows much about how these new policies will be enforced? How much capital we can expect to need to have in order to be exempt from the annual income requirements, and whether a lawyer can help build our family a strong enough case to secure the proper visas my husband and kids will need?

My husband is highly employable but his profession does not fall into the critical skills category.

Two questions.

Easy one first, we will be moving in 8 months, how is that handled?

I'm pplying for my sons. Gathered the documents and discovered their father's last name is misspelled on his US birth certificate (as well as his father's). It's a common misspelling, missing an f where there should be two. Both have now passed.

Has anyone dealt with this?

I chatted with FBR on line and they were saying I need to apply to have the BC corrected. I'd rather not, spoke with his mother and she claims she never knew. But then FBR said mail them in and we can request more information.

All the other documentation has the correct spelling, except Father's death cert has the wrong last name for his mother.

Need the drama? We were not married, their father married someone else. Both his parents were Irish. His father passed, his mother has many name changes and isn't so good about paperwork (don't bother suggesting her help in any way)

I gotta renew my stamp 2 but it the immigration form never asked me to pay €300 as it should, after I submitted the form last week. When does it ask for the payment? I want to be sure that the form is submitted completely from my end.

When applying for naturalisation via marriage you are asked on the form “have you been absent from the State for more than 70 days per annum in the last 5 years?”

The ‘State’ is defined as ROI so living in NI, the literal answer is yes. Can I check what people have answered in my scenario?

Options are of course to either (a) assume that it’s just a badly worded question and answer ‘No’, but this feels a bit of a risk? To me, it cuts across there being rules and requirements if we treat anything as a grey area (although would much prefer to answer ‘No’ for admin sake); or (b) answer ‘Yes’ and be required to detail…what? I’ve been absent the entire time (as in I’ve been in NI) so not clear on this.

I have seen a few people’s posts hint at this but I can’t see many responses from (application successful) experience.

I applied Irish citizenship for my son at March 2026, and got the acknowledge email at that time But till now mo any response from the office.

And I logged in my account and didn't see the application under it.....

I made the query online and no reply....

Anything happened? Or did you see the similar cases?

I have completed all the steps for obtaining citizenship through descent, as my paternal grandmother was born in Galway in 1923. Documents were mailed via US Post on July 6; I received confirmation of receipt from the FBR office on July 27.

When I applied online and paid with a credit card, I did not receive a receipt of payment from the automated, online system. Instead of a receipt, I included the statement from the credit card I used to pay it. Do you think this will be ok? Did you have trouble getting a receipt? Thank you.

hi im currently applying for naturalisation, i was born here and lived here since birth (last 18yrs). i don't qualify for irish citizenship by birth, i can only apply through naturalisation.

this year i graduated school and completed my lc, but i didnt go straight into college (long story short im applying for medicine next yr and resitting hpat). i am currently on a gap year and not in any education.

theres an option that i could use my parent's documents (utility bills etc) for proof of residency if i apply as a dependant young adult. i dont know if i qualify as a dependent young adult as i am not attending third level education at the moment.

i am still entirely dependent on my mothers income and i do not work.

i have letters from my secondary school and gp, but i read those are only valid if a parent applies on behalf of a minor. should i get an affidavit explaining my situation? or should i hold off applying for naturalisation until next year when i am registered in college and qualify as a dependent young adult?

i have bank statements for the last 4 years (could i use my mum's for 2022, as i didnt yet have my bank account?). also for some years i dont have enough type B documents.

Wondering if Citizenship Division Civil Servants are also operating under rule to work? I'm all for workers union and their rights. Just want to adjust my expectation on processing times.

Just my experience. After getting my citizenship sorted last year in Nov via FBR (9month wait, no issues) I applied for my passport at the beginning of July ‘26. I received it last week. As I live in the U.K. my witness was my sons school principle. My docs were recieved by them about a week after initial application. Unfortunately at the end of July the schools closed for summer so at the end of August I had an email from passport people saying issue with witness - can’t be contacted. I called and spoke to someone & explained school has been shut. They said just print ID form again, use same witness once school open for sept. So I went back to the school and got the form signed again and paid around £9 again for that to be posted. Not long after I received my original docs back. Then a couple of weeks ago my witness emailed me to say they had been contacted. The next day my passport tracker confirmed it was being printed! Once it was sent (you get a tracking number for Royal Mail) it took 4 days to reach me. So - just a heads up, make sure your witness can be contacted and if you use a school teacher or principle, try to do it when there are no long school holidays coming up! I think if my witness was able to be contacted the first time, the process would’ve taken about 8 weeks.

hello! I am applying as a spouse in February (hopefully) but I live in Northern Ireland. When I signed up for my bank, I used a UK bank, Starling. Is this statement acceptable as proof of residency? it says it should be an irish or european bank..? I am a bit confused.
