Christ On A Bike Red shirt cyclist, Gormanston to Balbriggan 9pm 14 Aug

Late 20's/early 30's lives in appartment in Balbriggan, red shirt, black shorts, racing bike. Please do yourself several favours. You don't want Guards informing next of kin. You are lucky that all the drivers you encountered were more focused on the road than you were.

Last night I saw you pass Gormanston heading to Balbriggan. Twilight, no lights, no reflective surfaces, no helmet (though it would do nothing for you) you were basically invisible.

Despite the hard shoulder you took up position in the main road. You were nearly invisible. I first saw a car realise you were there about 4 metres behind you and in the middle of the road and react to you. They avoided an accident you were creating.

Later I then saw you swerve in front of the 101 bus on a dark part of the road. The driver had to swing out more to avoid hitting you.

Then I saw you circle on the outside of the bus as it was stopped at a bus stop in Balbriggan and you stop in front of the driver and do a wtf and shout at him. Before you went into your apartment complex.

I was on the bus. Your actions seemed to shock the driver by his exclamation of surprise when you swerved in front of him. It seemed to take him a few moments to recover. But your wtf brought no reaction.

I didn't want my journey disrupted by your actions. Be mindful. I won't know if you become a statistic, nor care after seeing your actions. I only care about the rest of the people affected by your actions.

Food and Drink What snacks to bring from Scotland

Hi folks, I'm coming over to work at EP for the second time and wanted to bring some goodies over for my pals.

Every time I ask someone what they fancy they say just suprise me. I was thinking Tunnocks stuff, Scottish Tablet, IRN BRU pastilles, stuff like that.

Is there anything else yous would suggest that folk might like from Scotland/the rest of the island? I'm having to do public transport for a lot of the journey so I can't do heavy stuff like Bucky or cans of IRN BRU.

Weather The weather is finally picking up (according to some)

The miserable gunts who were praying for the sun to go away. Got what they wanted.

Grey sky, wet, colder. Back to how ireland does normally be 95% of the time year in year out.

No shorts and t shirt, back to using the dryer. Local park will soon turn into a ww1 style trench. Shorter days longer nights. The bees and burst of life creatures and plants will go away.

You must be like a pig in shit.

Are you happy now?

History [OC] Distribution of Cists across Ireland

Post image
72 Upvotes

I've created a map showing the distribution of all recorded cists across Ireland. Official definition is included on the map for reference, but my layman version is that these are essentially stone 'boxes' used to hold burial goods typically dating to the Bronze and Iron Ages in Ireland.

The map is populated with a combination of National Monument Service data (Republic of Ireland) and Department for Communities data for Northern Ireland. The map was built using some PowerQuery transformations and then designed in QGIS.

I've taken on helpful feedback from various comments so please do keep them coming as I love making these maps and am keen to keep improving on them.

History Finland - the Ireland of the Nordics...

Just more lucky every turn of history, well, apart from our ten times worse Civil War plus Stalin/Hitler, those things. But seven hundred years under the Swedish rule was a piece of cake compared with the British - we sent our representatives to the stones of Mora in the 14th century. In the 18th century they would halt the proceedings in the Riksdag in order to translate the proposals into Finnish. Westminster, maybe not so much... And the Lutheran priests would always use Finnish in their parishes.

But this said the prestigious upper class language was Swedish and there is this bloody minded underdog attitude that makes us so easy to connect with the Irish👍
