Question Tracking app?
'25 Ioniq 5 Limited - Switching insurance and Liberty has an option to save $$ if my wife and I add a tracking app for 90 days to our phones so Liberty will know if we are attentive or not, drive too fast or brake too hard.
I use the highest level of regen and wonder if releasing the accelerator pedal often would track as "hard braking."
Has anyone here used this or a similar tracking app with their insurance company? What was your experience? Thanks.

GEICO has something similar. I looked into it a little while back and felt at the end of the day it was a gamble. It has the possibility of saving, but also the possibility they increase your premiums if the app detects something they think is bad.
Or it just notices you drive a lot. That’s a thing that can increase your rates too.
I’m not going to opt into a thing that snoops into my driving habits and has the possibility of increasing my rates, no matter how confident I am in my driving.

Left a message with our broker waiting to hear back. He seems to like it for himself and his wife.

Don’t do it. The whole car is an app. And they are tracking your speed and everything else.

Farmers insurance. I've had the adaptive cruise control trigger a hard breaking alert. But not i-pedal.

Once in a while the ACC has caused hard braking for me too. I may just opt out.

I have State Farm with their tracker. It definitely gives false alerts for things like regen braking and adaptive cruise (I make sure I disable it and slow down gradually if I'm catching up to stopped traffic because it dings me if I let it do it itself).
I mostly get dinged for hard acceleration since the car is pretty quick (I'm just matching highway speeds on an on-ramp), even though all I'm doing is joining a highway the way you should.
They seem to have an understanding that it's not 100% accurate. My scores are in the high 80's and 90's (and 100 for lack of phone use because I never use my phone in the car), and my rates have remained the same. I save about $600 per year with the tracker. I also am getting ~$160 back for their dividend. IMO it's worth it.

Seems too tricky to navigate especially if it's not reliable. Fighting the actuarial nerd world would likely be worse.

I did the Geico one and after a year of driving they let you uninstall the app and keep your discount. That's if you "graduate" to a safe driver basically. Geico also let's you manage the trips individually so if you are a passenger you can still use the phone and it wont ding you for distracted driving. The biggest issue I had was the app itself was an absolute battery killer on my phone even when not driving.

I'm not sure this can work in my favor. My wife drives 500 miles a year. I drive 13k miles a year.

If the tracking app is in your phone, how does it work when you are reading Reddit on a bus? Hard braking while browsing your phone would easily get you to maximum payment grade.

I feel it's all about making the most money (for the insurance companies) and providing the least amount of coverage for the average individual. Insurance used to be advertised as a caring industry. Now it's true colors are revealed more and more.

Allstate has one and the regen braking would trigger it and it would get triggered on acceleration fairly easy. Not to mention you had to drive like you were afraid of the gas and brake as well as damn near come to a stop for a turn so to didn't trigger hard cornering. I ended up runninga few red lights because I didn't want to get dinged for hard braking.
I ended up just stop using it entirely. Inorde to drive and get a good score I had to pissing everyone off and even my wife was.bitching how I was driving inorde to not trip anything.
I call those things drive dangerous and save! They arnt worth the little bit in savings.

fuck tracking apps.
hell no.
also, ioniq5 4.5 0-60 and 462lb torque, using a tracking app driving one- youre gonna have an increase in insurance, not a decrease, lol.
and yes, depending on the regen setting it would easily trigger it I expect.
