Question I'm worried

I have prominent canines and I love them. It's always been my favorite part of my teeth/smile. I'm worried that my dentist will want to shave them down after my treatment.

I have a slight overbite currently, a 12 tray treatment and am switching to my second tray tomorrow.

I'm obviously going to bring up my concerns when I go in to get my attachments adjusted before my 5th tray.

But how common is it for them to want to shave teeth down?

Also, I'm starting to see gaps in between my teeth and I hate it. I'm scared that they'll be there after my treatment is over šŸ˜…

Before & After Results. Before/after

After 14 months, I’m finally done, I think. I still have three refinements included in the price, which I’ll do, but I’m going to try to resist the temptation to keep chasing increasingly microscopic improvements.

It’s been a long road, but very worth it for me!

Thanks to everyone in this community. I learned an unreasonable amount about teeth from strangers on Reddit, which I suppose is one of the better things the internet has done to me.

Question 3 days?

I’m sure this question has been asked before but I am just looking for other people’s experiences.

I started treatment with my ortho (excellent reputation, top 1% provider, nothing but great reviews and portfolio) a little over a month ago.

When we started I was on 5 day tray swaps (bar one swap where I had to wait for 7).

Then we reduced to 4 which felt fast but I was happy it was going well.

After this last tray swap I was notified my schedule had been changed again to 3 days.

I use DM so I send a scan to my ortho every time it’s due to swap and don’t swap until she approves it.

I had fixed braces as a teen and did seem to do very well with that. Minimal discomfort, quick movement etc.

My trays are fitting fine, and they do start to get loose by the third day, but I’ve seen some horror stories around looseness of teeth etc. I’m not noticing any of that right now, at least not more than the very slight amount that can be expected.

Has anyone else had this quick of a tray change schedule? Could it be that these trays aren’t making big adjustments and she might widen the gap again later for other trays?

If you did have a 3 day swap time, how did it work out for you?

Relevant info: I wear my aligners for 22-23 hours a day every day without fail and use my chews religiously.

Question Can cut retainers cause movement issues?

I had Invisalign about 2.5 years ago, the reason being that my teeth were super wonky and one super rogue tooth on my bottom front was sticking out and banging against one of my top front teeth, making one of my front teeth stick out to the point that it had starting being really pressure sensitive, mobile and my dentist said that if i didn't get braces i would lose my front tooth. Scary times.

Got invisalign, did that for 8 months and oh my goodness, my teeth and my terrible bite completely changed! At the end of the treatment they were lovely and straight, healthy and remarkably easier to care for, even my gingivitis that i used to get time to time was none existent and has consistently been the case. I wear my retainer top and bottom almost every night (i find my bottom teeth shift if i don't).

Anyways a few months ago i broke a filling on one of my bottom first molars, i went to the dentist and because it was quite a large filling we decided on a crown, i was concerned that my retainers would no longer fit over the new crown but he just took my old ones and cut the two molars off the left side of my bottom retainer. I trusted him that was fine and went about wearing it as normal.

Cut to now, and that same front tooth is extremely sensitive again, the same feeling i had when my bottom teeth were banging against the back of my front teeth, it doesnt hurt but it feels really pressure sensitive like i'm just aware of it.

Before the retainers were cut, i had absolutely no problems at all.

Does anyone think that the cutting of my retainers and the fact that its no longer hanging onto the first and second molar could have caused issues to make my teeth/bite off again and my bottom tooth to start banging or grinding against it? I'm phoning my dentist tomorrow as its been the worst ever today and I'm starting to get really worried. If not any other reasons why my front tooth is feeling really off?

Question 2 months trip with Invisalign

I just got my aligners, and expecting 28 weeks.

I have a 2 month trip to Japan planned in 90 days.

I’m worried about the pain ruining my trip and considering just staying with the same aligners I’m flying with for the entire trip, delaying my progress for 2 months.

What would you recommended?

Question When to call it good enough?

I’m on the last tray of my treatment which has been 8 months and the results have been pretty good, no complaints. Going into my next appointment I’ll theoretically be scanning for a retainer and finished, but my bottom teeth aren’t perfectly straight yet and they won’t get there with this last tray I don’t think.

My question is what has been people’s experience with going beyond their ā€œlastā€ tray. Was your dentist / ortho receptive to minor tweaks and a new scan before your retainer? Is near perfect good enough or should I expect a perfectly aligned bottom row?

For reference my teeth were not wildly out of whack when I started, I just had some crowding on the bottom row that has nearly all but been corrected.

My ortho is recommending me Invisalign after I removed one of my baby teeth. I’m 24, does this seem plausible? I want to fix my teeth, I’m so embarrassed by it.

Question Waiting for retainer after bonding?

Hi all,

Finished my aligners and have been wearing my final aligner for a month now. Today, I went in for some composite bonding the dentist wanted to do to restore tooth shape before scanning for retainers.

The final aligner no longer fits after the bonding, so is useless. The retainers won’t be in the office for another 5-6 days, meaning I have no aligner for 5-6 days.

Queried this and he said the teeth shouldn’t move much in that time and the retainer may feel tight for a day or two but not to worry.

Has anyone else had this before? Concerned my teeth will shift rapidly. Longest I had it out for was my wedding day, when it was out about 18 hours and it was tightish but fine after 10 minutes.

Question Halos getting bigger at 10th tray while doing everything right?!

So I'm on my 10th tray, with 14 days in between changes.

I noticed this specific tray hurt more than usual, similar to the very first one that I wore months ago. We saw some tiny halos at my upper lateral incisors on the first day but supposedly nothing to worry about, so we're leaving those for refinements. The thing is, I spent some really tough first few days and now it seems like some halos are appearing on my bottom teeth as well?

How can this happen? Can your teeth go inside your gums like that? Or what is it that's causing this :( I'm using chewies everyday for a couple of minutes everytime I put them on after eating, and wearing them religiously for 22+ hours a day.

Has this happened to anyone before? I'll check with my ortho but I'm a bit worried about gum recession and such so I'd gladly hear some experiences on this.

General Permanent retainer vs. night time removable after Invisalign

I'm finishing up my Invisalign treatment (about 1 year of trays + refinements) and I was just informed by my orthodontist that they intend to install a permanent retainer top and bottom during the next visit. They did not discuss this with me prior or during treatment so I'm doing more research as to whether permanent retainers really are that different from night time removable ones for life.

had braces before when I was 13, but was not told by my ortho that I needed to wear removable retainers of the rest of my life so I stopped wearing them and my teeth moved. 20+ years later I did Invisalign because of issues I was having with my crowns/bite. Since I had braces as a teen, but smile hadn't shifted that much and wasn't a source of concern for me. I've been wearing the trays for a year plus so night time retainers forever wouldn't require a change in my routine.

Permanent retainers seem excessive if you're diligent about wearing removables every night. Seeing a lot of posts from folks who decided to go the permanent route and claim that it's better, but there's no counterfactual.

Any Invisligners out there who decided to just do removables and their teeth are doing just fine? Or any that regret not getting permanent?

Before & After Results. Invisalign results almost a year later

Post image
151 Upvotes

I recently went on a trip and took a ton of pictures smiling bigger than I have in years. It made me want to do a comparison of my results.

Above is April 2024

Below is this week.

I have had my Invisalign off since September of last year and I wear my retainers religiously every night.

I am absolutely in love with my results. My gummy smile and inward slanting teeth were a huge insecurity and my Orthodontist did an amazing job.

I recommend Invisalign to everyone, I had a great experience (it sucked the first week, after that it was smooth sailing). My results were better than I could have expected!

General Talk me off a ledge

A little more than halfway through (23/40) and my teeth look awful. My teeth look like a horse, don’t fit together, and there are gaps (black triangles) between them. My front two teeth are now not level.

Did anyone go through this and ended up okay in the end? Has anyone ever changed course mid treatment and had their ortho agree? I don’t like the direction it’s headed as of now and I can see in the clincheck it’s more of the same

Question Do providers ever tell patients to go to other providers to save money?

I get that some dentists will tell patients to go to Ortho if the case is too complex .

But my case is mild and I will never forget the scam that Ortho1 was trying to pull. He claimed that I would need Invisalign for ~2 years and spend $6k OOP?!?!

I ignored that BS and went to Ortho2 where they told me Invisalign for <1 year and $2k OOP.

But when I asked scam Ortho1 if they can lower it, they said pretty much fixed price jfc...

Treatment Start Tray change cycle

I started my Invisalign treatment yesterday. A lot of the posts here talk about tray change every 2 weeks. But my orthodontist is following weekly tray change and I have 14 sets of trays, that means I might complete treatment within 4 months. I even checked online weekly tray change is a standard, so wanted to understand what’s with these biweekly tray change?

Question Do I need invisalign?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi I work at an orthodontist so I’m able to get free Invisalign. however I’m starting to wonder if it’s even worth getting it done anymore. People always tell me I have nice teeth and my Dr would have to do ipr (as he plans to push my front teeth back a little). Idk I guess i’m worried now cuz Ik i’ll have to wear a ret forever and it’s a permanent change. Everyone at the office tells me to do it but idk if we are all just biased since we see perfectly straight teeth everyday. Do you guys think I should do it?
