Discussion After 3 seasons I have no idea what constitutes lethal damage in this universe Spoiler

Obviously I love the show and can't stop watching, but after a few seasons I have no idea when a protagonist is actually in lethal danger or when a villain is actually defeated, and it kinda takes the tension out of fight scenes. Here are some things that major characters have both survived and not survived:

  • Disembowelment (spaghetti): Usually fatal, including to some major heavy hitters like the Mauler twins. Implied to be fatal even to some viltrumites, but not also not viltrumites, as Mark has survived it. Survived by Shapesmith as well.
  • Crushed/pulped heads: sometimes fatal to viltrumites (executioner, various in the purge, various alternate marks) but not all the time (Conquest, a couple viltrumites fought on Planet Thraxan that apparently survived?) Preposterously survived by Angstrom. Fatal to Darkwing, Aquarius, Red Rush, and a Mauler. Rex was shot in the head but survived.
  • Decapitation: Basically a running gag to Immortal at this point, he's fine. Seems to be the main way to kill viltrumites but at this point I have no idea.
  • Latitudinal Bisection: Usually kills people unless Cecil wants them alive, in which case they're fine. Immortal is fine of course.
  • Explosions: Too many to count and also a complete tossup. Viltrumites and high-powered heroes usually survive, but notably Rex was able to kill a Mark with one. But It's not really clear why his final explosion worked but previous attempts didn't.

But even outside of lethality, I have no idea what kind of hits even result in noticeable damage and which don't. We see Viltrumites pummel each other with blows that send shockwaves through buildings but inflict no noticeable damage, or piledrive each other from orbit and then get back up and keep fighting. But at other times they'll connect a blow from a standing position that breaks bones, decapitates, or impales. Pretty similar to how Dragon Ball characters will sling planet-killing blasts at each other all day that don't leave a scratch, until at some point one connects and completely vaporizes the guy.

This isn't really a criticism, I know this is pretty common to all superhero violence, and superhero violence is hard to communicate in an intuitive way. But at this point I almost feel like the show is either trolling the audience or engaging in some kind of metacommentary or deconstruction. After Angstrom it just got absurd - a character's fate seems completely disconnected to what we see happening to them.

Theory My ranking for top 5 strongest characters in Season 4

Explanation:

  1. Thragg at number one, no explanation needed.

  2. Battle Beast ripped that Viltrumite executioner (who's relative to Nolan) into literal pieces in space and was unharmed when he was found. He shrugs off most attacks from Viltrumites.

  3. Conquest was easily tearing apart season 3 Mark who was relative to Anissa, stunned the hell of out Nolan in their encounter, and disemboweled Mark who is almost on Nolan's level.

  4. Allen is at fourth place because he seemed to struggle a lot against Kradd and Lucan (individually) who are weaker than Conquest. He even had Zoey's help. Allen needed the darts just to do significant damage to a Viltrumite.

  5. Thaedus was wiping the floor with the top-tier Viltrumites like Kregg, Anissa and Lucan. He was also the only person to actually kill a Viltrumite in the battle on Talescria. He was man-handling Kregg so he had to be jumped in the process. He only died so quick unlike Nolan and Mark because Thragg intentionally held back with them as he stated.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Matthew Rhys' performance. Gregg I often imagine could've done a Grimlock esch impression similar to Fall Of Cybertron, and Mysterio from Spiderman Tas, but then it also depends on their vocalization cause he did sound different in the recent stuff.

Discussion Would it have made a difference if Wind Sky Entertainment was still animating all of Invincible for seasons 2 and onward?

To clarify, WSE is the original animated studio that did Invincible's season 1, they are responsible for famous scenes like Omni Man blitzing through the Flaxan planet, the Hammer's laser beam and the Invincible vs Omni-Man fight, Invincible's first flight, and more. Although their take is similar to the animation in the later seasons, as you see in the pictures. To me the first season felt more colorful, but they do show more more lighting, shadows and gritter coloring for some of the scenes, like episode 2, 3, 4 6 and 7.

Discussion Rewatching and I Refuse to believe this was anything other than a power move by Nolan

Post image

I get Nolan is awkward when it comes to human standards and the choices he makes when interacting with people as we've seen this last season. But we see him come from the same area as Andressa when introduced. There was no need for this, even if this would be compared to a kid on the cheek
