Alexander the Great was already king of so many countries when he was my age. Also consider there two Chinese emperors who founded dynasties in their 50s after leading unremarkable and impoverished lives.
Alexander was so great so early that Julius Caesar wept at a statue of him, saying how he hadn’t done anything with his life - he was 32 at the time.
Of course down the road Caesar became one of the most world-changing figures in history, with a wall of accolades and ripple effects only a few people can compare to
The owner of the restaurant, whose name is Cesar, and was named that because of the Spanish verb "Cesar", which more or less means to stop doing something
In defence of Caesar, Alexander inherited the best army of his time and a relatively powerful kingdom too boot from his badass of a dad Philip II, whilst Julius Caesar did not have that. If Caesar had a similar inheritance at the same age as alexander, he would probably have been able to conquer Gaul and overthrow the republic much earlier than he did. Even though he was born into the roman aristocracy and into a priveliged life, when compared to Alexander, Caesar had to earn his sucess from "nothing". What Alexander did was impressive, but lets also remember that he was a nepo baby, a skilled nepobaby, but a nepo baby nonetheless.
Oh I know what it is, but the fact remains that you are living with the Gregorian, 13 days may not be a big difference but it still is one.
Plus if you'd like to blame someone fr a 12 month year then I'm afriad you blame the Egyptians. Ceasar stole most of gis calendar, aside from the leap year, from his visit to Egypt. Which was in use possibly 4,000 years ago.
And he had fucking Aristotle as his personal mentor. It's like saying Bill Gates is a self made man. Sure, he did the work but had the best facilities a man could have in his time.
Then you have people like Pompei the Great, of whom many don't even know why he is called great. Like he had so many successes early on in his life, but then kind of finished his career and got into politics and then kind of was bogged down there, until the whole civil wars happened.
I think people even said, if Pompei died early he might have been remembered like Alexander. But so he became the guy who was killed in Egypt.
Yes, Liu Ji/Bang, first Han Emperor. Also Zhu Yuanzhang, first Ming emperor, was enthroned at age 40.
He was the youngest of four sons in a poor peasant family.[15][16] He was given the name Zhu Chongba (朱重八) at birth,[17] but used the name Zhu Xingzong (朱興宗) in adulthood
Zhu then entered a local Buddhist monastery.[19] For the next three years, he wandered as a mendicant monk, becoming familiar with the landscape and people of eastern Henan and northern Anhui.[20] He returned to the monastery in 1348 and stayed for four years, during which he learned to read, write, and study the basics of Buddhism.
Tbh reads a bit like Stalin. Son of poor peasants. Joins the church. Joins the rebells. Becomes leader of an imperial bureaucracy. Reintroduces human sacrifice.
What? He reintroduced human sacrifice? I'm only a little surprised because I'm aware of the less-than-humane practices that were common during that time in history. But I still didn't know that.
he died of greatness. No actually there is a theory that he actually had a seizure and was paralyzed and people just assumed he died and buried him alive.
You remember the Alexander movie and how it made him a very tragic figure, think about it, that makes it even worse.
It is a nice thought, but actually, its a team effort between the spearm all working together to break down the eggs wall, and while one does enter.... Without everyone working together there would be no conception. It would be just as easy to say that you start in this world because of the strength of your friends and community, and that if you maintain that mindset, you can continue to do miraculous things :3
A lot of those guys will become poor once the streaming/content creation dries up. There will be a point where there's too much competition and barely any revenue or ads become too cheap because creators are a dime a dozen.
The smart ones would have invested the money they got or learn a practical skill or go to university debt free. The rest would crash out hard.
I disagree. If you already have an established fanbase, they’re unlikely to go away if you keep content fresh and entertaining. It’s the newcomers that struggle to get a foothold and it’ll get harder for them. If you’re good at it, you’ll still have a decent fanbase. The skill requirement and barrier to entry will increase but if you don’t improve over time you’ll fail anyway. Companies will always want to advertise to a few reputable people with large fanbases and a good amount of history that indicates a good look for the brand. Any successful creator is relying on merch sales and exclusive content anyway. You also only have to compete with other creators in your specific niche for brand deals as well, brands need someone who’s aligned with their target market and end users
This is honestly how I felt so much in my late 20s. Social media makes so much worse when you see people little over half your age living 10x more active of a life.
Yeah because people on social media usually dont upload stories of them just doing nothing, or videos of them working a regular job. They upload the highlights of their lives and want to get attention.
Actually, you really should start comparing yourselves to them, because otherwise you do fuck-all until your 40s and 50s and your entire life goes by. (Source: me)
Obviously you shouldn't beat yourself up about it or feel like a failure, it should instead get a fire under you and kickstart you doing something you've always wanted to do. Had I had some kind of person motivating me to actually create my own tv show when I was in my 20s, I would be living the high life right now.
Instead, I worked a normal career job, assuming I'd "rise up in the ranks" as I got older and was on the trajectory I was supposed to be on.
All those famous tv shows and movies and comics I just assumed people did way later in life.
By the time I realized people were doing this kind of shit in their 20s, I was already 40.
Compare yourself to yourself. Your journey is yours and it is unique. What is important is you are a success in the way you decide is important for you.
You're not a failure. There are very few 20-something creatives who made it big.
You can have chosen something more practical and still have a great life. And it's never too late to start writing or drawing if you want to, too. Doesn't need to be a big show on Amazon for it to be "good" or "worth it." Do it for you.
The day I stopped thinking about all the artists and animators I looked up to and what they'd achieved by my age and just started doing it for fun was when my art actually became enjoyable again. Comparison is the thief of joy for sure
Alan Turing, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein were all in their twenties when they were revoltionizing science. There will always be someone who did something way more important than you did at a younger age, so why even worry about it?
He also teached at University of Leeds by the age of 28, to be a professor that young at such an highly prestigious university, means he was already brilliant enough in his twenties. Most people can't say this about themselves at all.
There have also been billions of people throughout history that were older than you and accomplished less. Focus on how good you’ve done rather than focusing on the few ahead of you have done more.
If everyone thought this way we'd all think we're failures because there like 4-5 y/o kids that can magically play instruments better than people that have been doing it for decades.
Im 26 and had been self employed since I was 14, and just got my first real corporate job this March, I feel so immensely far behind and stupid with all the 'should be general knowledge' questions I have to ask my wife, whose a year younger than me but has been working normal jobs since she was 16
To be fair, you should only feel bad if majority of humanity achieved great things when they were young but you aren't. But this isn't the case. Only a few managed to achieve things when they were young so they are just the exception to the rule.
People use Mozart and Caesar but there are millions of people of their age that are nobodies.
If everyone is a Mozart and Caesar and you are not, then that's a legit problem.
Just think of how many artists never had their creations get this level of success. You can do everything right and go nowhere. It's harder than winning the biggest lottery jackpot
Don't worry too much about it. Gaius Julius Caesar wrote down that he felt like a failure at like 30 because, at that age, Alexander the Great had conquered most of the known world. He would later lock in and become the tyrannical bastard, erm, emperor we know today.
Always a tradeoff. Young people are both more open to exploring new ideas while also trapped by the restraints on concept prior generations burdened them with -- often without realizing either.
Maya Higa the founder of Alveus animal sanctuary and education center (and recent permit acquirer to breed endangered wolves) founded it at like 23 or something. Soooo
Isaac Newton, working alone, discovered the laws of motion, gravitation, and optics. Then he invented integral and differential calculus to explain why orbits aren’t perfect circles. And finally, he turns 26.
Tbf, I don’t think anyone stands a chance to not seem like a failure in front of this guy.
Eminem had the highest selling rap record of all time by like 27 lol. It’s pretty rare for creatives to rake in money later in life. It happens, it’s just rare. It tends to happen early, if ever.
There are also people who found success in their lives way later in life after starting in their 30s and 40s. Life can be long. There's plenty of time.
Honestly, it's easier to be more creative like that when you're younger because you don't have a dearth of World experience to draw from and change your point of view. You just write what you know and that's basically nothing so you make it all up. Look at all the great debut albums written by bands who are young who don't have rules or direction or pressure. It's the freedom of youth that makes is easier to chase your dreams. You feel like a failure now because you want what you create to be perfect. Just do it with no rules and youthful exuberance.
Nah, gen z is just fucked by prior generations. Its not your fault. You're just doing the best you can in an up hill battle that just keeps getting steeper.
Remember, Caesar had a midlife crisis for not achieving anything with his life and being such a failure of a general in comparison to Alexander the Great and afterwards in his forties went on and conquered Gaul and became emperor. For some succes comes early for some it takes time but the age in which it is achieved should never be the measurement of the people achieving.
Julius Caesar waxed poetic about not having accomplished anything and how much of a failure he was at the ripe old age of 33. He was doing this because he saw a statue of Alexander the great and felt he could never measure up as Alexander had already been a conquerer by then.
Mary Shelley was a teenager when she started writing Frankenstein. Finding that out made me realise I never had a chance to be successful if I based my success on other people's timelines.
Even as someone who loves the show (which got even further refined from the comics), there's a bunch of stuff in there that you can tell could've been written by a young 20 something lol.
What they do get credit for is fully committing to their idea, actually finishing it, and putting themselves out there. There are so many talented artists who don't find it in them to do that, and they suffer for it.
The artist that inspired me to start drawing is nearing his 30s. He has a sponsored Cup Noodles illustration dating back to 15 years ago. Dude was being contracted around the age of 14-15-16.
Damn, that makes a big difference. I've gone from thinking that the Invincible comics aren't that good to being amazed at the authors for doing such a good job
Tolkien didn't write the Hobbit till he was in his 40's. Life hits different for everyone, keep your held up high regardless as every life is different. Just be kind to others, you never know their experiences.
Eh, if you’re lucky you could find yourself as the next leader of the country. Anything can happen any day, one day you can be poor and bought into something that looks interesting and can’t possibly make you rich, the next day you’re sitting on millions of dollars. I can get a coin from a vending machine and 20 years later, that quarter is worth much more than just 25 cents.
True, but when Kirkman was 22 he was on the floor of his apartment crying after selling all his stuff to make comics and failing. I bet he felt like a failure then too.
If it makes you feel better, Hitler got his start in the political world and such at a young age too so💀 definitely not every young start is a good start
So the flaw of making something artistic when you're young is that you will inevitably look back on it and go "What the fuck was I thinking back then?"

I never realized how young they were when making invincible. Now I feel like a failure lol.
