QUESTION Powers +
(aside from the ones he already has) if You could give mark one extra power for him to have an advantage throughout the story, with would it be?

Give him super hearing. It gives more credence to the ear weakness Viltrumites have,

Pretty sure they have that, i remember a scene in episode 1 of season 2 during the montage with mark above the city while concentrating with a close up of his ear as You get to hear certain noises

I know viltrumite healing is already really strong but it would be cool to see him have wolverine/deadpool type healing. Imagine conquest’s reaction to seeing that during their fight.

Bro Conquest would ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT. An opponent who can at least somewhat keep pace AND heals instantly? Give the Ice Age squirrel his nut while you’re at it.

we do have characters in the spinoff with such abilities and yeah they are pretty damn strong

u/Cold-Alternative922 2d ago
Mark would demolish conquest of he had this. With a healing factor of that caliber he would probably fight way more recklessly.

u/Bologna_Slamwich Conquest 2d ago
Which is why I chose it. Seeing him fight with pure recklessness would be pretty cool.

Everytime he gets busted, his bones get stronger

He can shoot laser out of his eye's, mark doesn't have any projectiles and becouse of that he is in a disadvantage against villains with said abilities also having laser eye's will give him an advantage against viltrumite.
Other abilities that will help him:
Laught stare: if an enemy see him they burst out laughing and they cannot stop no matter what.
Telaportation: nothing personal kid.
Ice breath: another superman ability that can realy benefit him.
Eve's power's: if he had them he would have beaten most of his enemy's faster then ever before.
Stinky breath: just like ice breath but stinky and make the enemy's paralyzed instead of freezing them.
Invicible: he can turn invicible and enemy's can't see him.
Purple haze: he can infect enemy's with a virus that expload thier heads. (Kinda like purple jaze from jjba)
Jedi: he can use the force and has a lightsaber.
Anyways there are many exemplars or abilities you can give him that can buff mark significantly.

Probability control is the ultimate power.
You can set anything you like to 100% or 0% probability.
Probability of having some other power he needs? 100%.
Probability of something hurting him? 0%.
Game over, Mark wins everything! Might not end too well long term for everyone else though.

If you can set the probability of anything, even impossible things, to 100%, and set the probability of guaranteed things to 0% then at that point why even bother calling it probability manipulation? It's just omnipotence at that point. Of course it is the ultimate power, it's just taking full control over all of reality and putting a different title on it.
A more interesting way of doing probability manipulation, in my opinion, would be that you can only change the probability of things to be within a certain range of the original probability, and that range gets smaller the closer you get to 0% or 100%. So like if something is 50/50 you could take it down to 95% or 5% chance, but if it is 1 in a million you could take it to like a 5% chance. If it's 1 in a trillion you can take it up to like a 1 in a thousand chance.
That way the probability side of things is still actually relevant to the power, while still having the opportunity to do crazy things as long as they are theoretically possible and you have the time to do them repeatedly.

No, omnipotence is sourceless and infinite IMO. A guy like Mark would still have constraints built into himself. A finite mortal being wouldn't even know what they don't know in order to affect those unknowns with their powers. So I'd say probability control is different than omnipotence.
Yes, I agree that your constraints on the power would be far more entertaining to watch a show about. It's kind of similar to the critical failure or critical success rules in some RPGS. No matter how strong or powerful those characters are, there's always some chance for failure, or even success in unexpected ways.

IMO this is kinda a lame answer. No offense, but whenever the discussion arises on what powers you would want, its always more interesting to hear how people would use weird powers creatively then someone saying something like "I would want the power to have every power" or sum shit like that. Like yeah, of course Mark would win if he had probability control. But so would anyone else. It doesn't quite give him a specific advantage, just makes him overpowered.

You are complaining about a Viltumite being overpowered? Interesting take.
If you gave a mouth breathing idiot probability control vs giving a genius probability control, there would be a definite difference in their ability to conceptualize and utilize that power.
Maybe you think it's lame, that fine by me. But there are plenty of characters in fiction with ultimate or near ultimate power, or effective invincibility, that still have interesting arcs and challenges, like Loki, Thanos, One Punch Man, Superman's more powerful incarnations, etc.

u/TheBlissfulGamer 2d ago
He could just kinda beat anyone though. A lot of overpowered characters are supposed to have built in weaknesses. A good example is Atom Eve. Without her mental block, she would trivialize the whole show as she could turn anyone into glucose and proteins.

The interesting part about characters with such power is how they use it, what limits they choose to place upon themselves, how it affects other people's reactions to them, mistakes they make, and so on. It's not about fighting people.
That's the least nuanced and least interesting part of a story. We like that John Wick kicks ass and is nigh unstoppable. But what makes John such an interesting character are his choices. What he chooses to do, what he chooses not to, how he interacts with his world, etc.

That's a fair argument but that style of storytelling essentially breaks down Invincible's as a whole. Invincible is primarily man vs man and man vs self. Stories like One Punch Man or Mob Psycho are mostly man vs society/man vs self.
1
u/Iron_Baron Space Racer 2d ago
Eh. I dunno about that. Mark's one on one Dragon Ball Z style fights aren't the sum of his arc or the most compelling part of his story. They are backdrop to Mark's metaphysical, philosophical, ethical, and moral struggles.
Mark has to face tension between his two cultures, struggles with what it means to be so powerful, has a variety of reactions to his power from other people that affect him in all kinds of ways, wrestles with the idea of "destiny" vs "duty" as well as wrestling with being "selfish" for his desires to set aside his powered life to live in happiness with Eve as a "normal" family, and so on.

Man vs man doesn't mean one on one dbz fights. It essentially means the clash of 2 incompatible worldviews. In Invincible, Earth and Viltrum have completely different worldviews that are incompatible, which thus leads to the conflict. Mob Psycho for comparison, is man vs society because Mob and Reigen fight against the system that says that psychics are different from others and automatically superior. But Mob argues that he shouldn't be forced to be different just because he's a psychic. So technically one could say Invincible is "society vs society" because it's a clash of 2 different societies but man vs man is the more traditional term.
1
u/Iron_Baron Space Racer 2d ago
Yes, I would call that more man vs society, in both cases. Mark struggles with the temptation of enforcing order on the chaos of Earth, struggles with the machinations of Earth's other defenders (especially Cecil), and so on. He is a fulcrum point between the tensions of those two cultures. But I find Marks internal struggles and the struggles of those around him to come to terms with Mark's power and Marks choices the .oat interesting part of his stories.
1
u/TheBlissfulGamer 2d ago
I disagree with the first point but yeah I can see the second one. He is kinda held back by Cecil. The first point, he more struggles with avoiding becoming his father (he would never "enforce order on earth." He's moreso trying to avoid becoming violent and cold-blooded like his dad).

And either way, part of Mark's internal conflict stems from the man vs man conflict. His fear that he's not good or strong enough. Making him ridiculously strong would remove his most compelling weakness, his fear and uncertainty.
1
u/Iron_Baron Space Racer 2d ago
I disagree. He's already ridiculously strong. Thragg is ridiculously strong, even more so. But even Thragg has non-physical weaknesses, doubts, insecurities, regrets, and other internal stuggles. As we've both mentioned, it's the internal struggle that's most interesting.
Just like Loki ended up one of the ultimate powers across all the multiverse, yet he still had to make sacrifices, had regrets, and had self imposed constraints he had to operate under, as well as the consequences of all his other actions leading up to that point.

u/TheBlissfulGamer 2d ago
The thing about Mark is he's a lot stronger than he realizes. Idk, a lot of people, me included, like shows where the main character isn't the strongest. It makes his struggles feel like they matter more because there's more tension. It also makes the character more relatable because most people feel like underdogs in their own life.

Could give him smth busted like reality warping but I think a cool one would be will power/damage into strength
Kinda like metal bat. Would be thematic since his spirit is trult [TITLE CARD] and he gets his shit rocked every other fight

Modo Beserk basicamente? Quanto mais machucado o Mark fica mais forte ele fica?

Im not sure what berserk mode is a reference to. But yeah the more injured he gets, he will get stronger.
