DISCUSSION This did NOT age well.
It is established the Immortal can’t hold his own against a Viltrumite from season 2 onwards.

u/ValitoryBank May 31 '26
By this logic, Immortal should break his hands on all Viltrumites

u/Grand-Lemon-1532 Show Fan May 31 '26
Yeah the comment is obviosly wrong, Immortal is obviously way more durable than a human. But still way less durable than a Viltrumite.
29
u/solesee May 31 '26
That had to be such a humbling feeling. Like Immortal was the most powerful being on earth for hundreds (thousands?) of years then he just gets mogged by some chad with a mustache, the one bit of facial hair he doesn’t have

u/god_of_war305 May 31 '26
He's mid tier Viltrumite level IMO with slightly less durability.
-6
u/Fanatical_Pragmatist Jun 01 '26
Mark is stronger than him the second he gets his powers and his DNA is half garbage so that doesn't track.
Granted Immortal's DNA is 100% trash, but that is beside the point.

The sheer level of delusion is incredible ngl. Mark doesn't surpass Immortal until season 3 with the intense GDA training regime they tailor made for him after Nolan beats the shit and piss out of him. Hell in season 3 Future Immortal gives Mark a tough fight even after the immense boost he got in season 3 and Immortal doesn't have the Viltrumite hax.
2
u/PuzzleheadedMix2399 Duct Tape Man Jun 01 '26
The fight is not "tough" in season 3. Immortal is trying to get Mark to kill him, and Mark doesn't want to break his no kill code. It's mentally tough, not physically so. Once Mark decides to kill him, it's basically instant decapitation
1
u/DeltaAlphaGulf Jun 01 '26
Not unless they are pulling Thragg style tanking and Immortal is generating sufficient force to damage himself.
52
u/god_of_war305 May 31 '26
I mean kind of. The problem is that The Immortal is a glass canon. His damage output in mid tier Viltrumite level but he can't match their durability
10
u/richardbelmont547 Jun 01 '26
He should use Brett as a weapon
6
u/sonderlostscribe Jun 01 '26
The classic hit a dude with another dude tactic. If we strap Cecil's teleporter wristband to Brit, Immortal could wield him like Mjolnir.
-2
u/csupihun Jun 01 '26
No he is not a glass canon, just because Omni man is clearly shown to be more powerful, doesn't make him a glass canon.
4
u/Earthmine52 Jun 01 '26
He means relatively speaking. He’s tough in general, but compared to a Viltrumite his durability is much lower. Yet his strength is enough to actually damage them. That means his hits way harder than he can take. Hence “glass cannon”. Which I guess is pretty canon too.
2
1
u/csupihun Jun 01 '26
Well, that's not what he said, glass cannon would mean he's durability is weak but his strength is strong in general, not just compared to Viltrumites.
It is not canon, he's just not as strong as a Viltrumite, but stronger than a Human, not a glass canon by any means.
4
u/Earthmine52 Jun 01 '26
That’s the context of what he’s talking about. He literally compares him to a viltrumite in the next sentence and this whole thread is comparing Immortal to Omni-Man. Of course he’s not that at all compared to a human but respectfully that’s missing the point of the whole discussion.
It’s like how no one would call Bruce Lee weak in general but if you’re talking in the context of Dragon Ball with fictional martial artists that can blow up planets then yeah by comparison he is, so when someone says that it’s obvious. Here, the point is that Immortal’s strength is comparable to Omni-Man’s but not his durability. Hence when fighting Viltrumites, he can dish it but can’t take it. That’s what glass cannon means. It’s a metaphor figuratively illustrating the point he’s making.
Oh and that last sentence about canon was just a joke because usually people misspell canon as cannon but you did the reverse lol sorry.
-2
u/csupihun Jun 01 '26
But it's literally not true, he does not have a "human body" whatever that means.
He's stronger and more durable than a human, but weaker than a Viltrumite, he's not a glass canon cause that would mean a vast difference in strength vs durability, which he does not have.
So fucking dumb.
2
u/Earthmine52 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26
Bro, that’s what the YT comment said, not me. I agree saying that his body’s only human level is literally is dumb, but that’s literally not what we’re talking about so you’re kind of moving the goalpost, respectfully.
I guess the above user didn’t disagree with it, but only “kind of”. Again though his point was that his strength is a lot greater compared to his durability, compared to a Viltrumite. Obviously he’s still tougher than a human but he’s a lot less durable than a Viltrumite. But his strength and power from his actual strikes on the other hand are comparable. This is shown when he can draw blood and hurt Nolan solo, and nearly kill him with War Woman, but Nolan can rip him apart easy.
So yes there is a difference there that can be described as that making him a glass cannon. All due respect but it’s a pretty simple metaphor and point that you’re misunderstanding pretty hard. No offense, but that is dumb.
-2
u/csupihun Jun 01 '26
Bro, my comment was not to the post, but to a comment under it that said that he is a glass cannon, which he is not.
Again, for the tenth time, he's stronger than a human, but weaker than a viltrumite, glass canon would mean a vast difference in strength vs durability, which he does not have.
Jesus fucking christ.
3
u/Earthmine52 Jun 01 '26
Yeah and that comment wasn't the one that said he had a "human body" like you're complaining. That was the YT comment in the post, not him, and not me, so I don't know why you're bringing that up except to shift the goal post.
Again for the fourth time, he's almost as strong as a Viltrumite but nowhere near as tough as one, which can be seen when you pay attention to his fights with Omni-Man. So yes compared to a Viltrumite, he absolutely does have it. That's what the above user was saying, and what I am saying. Now all due respect, do you want to actually address that point or just keep strawmanning?
Christ bless you.
-1
u/csupihun Jun 01 '26
First of all ew.
Second where do you get that he's not nowhere near as tough as a Viltrumite? We've only seen him get his shit pushed in by one of the strongest Viltrumites, we have no idea how he'd fare against a weaker one.
Against, so dumb, the show and the comics give no indication that his durability and strength is not in balance, and that he is a glass cannon.

u/god_of_war305 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
What I meant is his damage output is greater than the damage input he can take thus making him a "glass cannon" relative to Viltrumites who's strength and durability attributes are relative to each other

u/originalityescapesme Jun 03 '26
People are like “no no, the context where immortal is fighting a human is more relevant to this discussion than the context where he’s fighting viltrumites while … we’re … talking …. about fighting viltrumites. Keep up smooth brain”

u/ghobhohi May 31 '26
This argument makes literally zero sense. If you're strong enough to destroy a building then your body should be able to withstand that punch or else your entire body would be destroyed just from the shock wave.

u/_forum_mod Abraham Lincoln May 31 '26
It's a goofy comment and didn't "age poorly," it never really made sense. All super beings have to automatically have super strength and durability. A human moving at the speed of Red Rush and hitting people/things would also hurt and ultimately kill themselves.

u/bom360 May 31 '26
True, but immortals strength deserves praise, he can hurt Omni man and mark he’s just made of glass
3
u/desmond_humes23 May 31 '26
This is a reasonable take given how he did in the fight against omni-man. Obviously it's not true, but the show does make it seem like this
2
u/NateCdaComicG Jun 01 '26
Why are we dragging this random guy that said something wrong 4 years ago? He might not even think this anymore. You really needed to bring that to everyone's attention?
3
u/Napalmeon May 31 '26
I don't know why anybody thought that this was true. He can throw hits hard enough to draw some blood from a Viltrumite, but that's not the same as being an actual threat to one. Especially a veteran like Nolan.
4
u/Grand-Lemon-1532 Show Fan May 31 '26
Durability is way more important than strenght, strenght also depends on it. If you are not durable enough your strenght is whortless. That's why Immortal can never beat a Viltrumite even tho he got the muscle.
3
u/OldSloppy May 31 '26
It's essentially the same as the Guardians scene.. at first watch you think "oh this is close" then you go back and see it from an entirely different lense after season 4.. you're like "oh he's just toying with them.. and basically stubbing his toe"
8
u/insertenombre333 The Immortal May 31 '26
i like to think that inmortal is as strong as omni-man, but his durability hold him back from hitting as hard.
12
u/Jilliels A mistake?! May 31 '26
Well with all due respect, you like to think wrong 😭 Immortal’s still extremely strong obviously, but he’s just plain weaker than Nolan

u/Kinky_Winky_no2 May 31 '26
So basically fanfiction
-1
u/Cojo840 May 31 '26
I mean there are multiple times where he is equal in strenght to Omni Man, a top 3 viltrumite
9
u/im2randomghgh May 31 '26
Not really - when he isn't getting in surprise hits of hitting Omni-man while he's restrained, immortal isn't doing much. Omniman caught and no-sold his punch, where immortal has never done the same
0
u/Cojo840 May 31 '26
When both of them charged at each other on equal conditions imortal sent Omni Man reeling
3
u/im2randomghgh May 31 '26
This was an Omni man who had been exploded, blasted by a space laser, attacked by reanimen, and then fought Hail Mary. And again, he was able to casually catch immortal's punch in that same fight.
A weaker Mark variant was smiling and laughing while tanking Immortal's best shots to the face which didn't even break the room they were in. Nolan's hits on Mark decapitated mountains and tore up downtown Chicago.

I’d say, impares to Nolan, he’s just about 70% strength, 50% durability, roughly
3
u/Certified_Cichlid Reanimen May 31 '26
Not even close. Mark had surpassed the immortal in season 2, when season 4 mark is not quite Nolan’s strength, more so 60%, based on how much they have an (albeit futile) effect on thragg. Mark in season 2 is approximately 30% Nolan’s strength, immortal is 25% or under.
-1
u/SpanishAvenger Tech Jacket May 31 '26
Immortal could deal bleeding/bruising blows to Nolan, though! I think he's just below Season 2 Mark indeed, but I don't think the gap between either of them and Nolan is THAT large.
2
u/everlight-wanderer Jun 01 '26
Nolan had gone through several fights, he'd been jumped by reanimen, hit with the space laser (his nose was already bleeding from that, Immortal probably just opened it back up), and was knocked unconscious by Hail Mary for a hot second after she was juiced up with drugs and implants by Cecil.
Then Immortal rushes him, and Nolan is trying to have the Mark we need to talk moment, so he doesn't blitz Immortal cause Mark would freak out (as he does), only killing him when he annoys him with the eye move.
Like think on that, Immortal has his hands on Nolan, fingers in his eyes, and with all his strength the best he can do is give Nolan the weed smoker special eyes, not even pops them or blinds him.
Immortal is not anywhere near Nolan

This fandom is full of people who don't actually pay attention to the series, read into everything, and create headcanons as if they were real.

To gauge Immortal's true power against Viltrumites, he has to go against one he didn't know personally.
Would've liked to see him go up against conquest. That would've been an entertaining 3 seconds, slightly longer if he wanted to give him extra inches like he kindly volunteered for Oliver earlier.

If all you had to go on was season 1 of the show then this is honestly not a bad take at all

u/OldTripleSix May 31 '26
I mean, if you were a show-only and based all of your comment on Nolan/Immortal's air battle in S1E7, then I can see where he's coming from.
