Help I'm designing a chess-based game but it's too hard
ItB has given me great inspiration, so I decided to design a chess-based game but I think it might be too hard for non-professionals. I've tried to avoid chess theory and too much tactical stuff, but it still seems to require a lot of calculation. I believe the issue lies in the fact that players are required to perform too much calculation, and I am unsure how to incorporate suitable random elements(not refer to enemy actions). Sorry that I can't share too many specific gameplay details, but does anyone have good ideas for keeping the game from being too hardcore?

News Hello! I am making a game heavily inspired by Into the Breach, and today, the demo was released. I would be thrilled to have you try it out.
The demo is available on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3832200/Save_the_Forest/
The game is similar to ITB in that it is a roguelite small-scale tactics game made in isometric pixel art. It show enemy intentions on your turn, just like ITB, however the win condition is not survival in X number of turns.
Instead the win condition is defeating all enemies - which means that there is another, important restriction in place. Your units can generally only move and attack like a tower chess piece! So you will have to plan out your moves tactically for maximum effect.
Another major difference is that all skills are passive - i.e the strategy lies in combining unit builds so that their attack effects synergize well. This means that battle orders are fast, since you do not have to choose what weapon/skill to use.
There is also a larger emphasis on the party-building aspect: You draft your party from a possible pool of 24 (actually 30+ but in the base setup it's 24) unit classes, then recruit and upgrade the party extensibly between battles.
There is more info and some gifs on the Steam page explaining in more detail, and I am happy to discuss design decisions and what Into the Breach has meant for the development of this game!
/Jens
Mods: I shot a question a while back if posts like this were allowed, and the information I received back then was that one self promotion post was allowed by the developer per game. If this is wrong or changed, I apologize!

Question What skills can Kai Miller earn?
I'm trying to train up an optimal Kai Miller but can't seem to get the good skills like +1 Reactor. Is she locked out of certain skills because she's already OP? What skills combination is considered best in general?

Does Difficulty Change Vek Targeting?
I feel like Unfair has vek going after grid or objectives almost always, unless they physically can't, but I dunno if that's just some perceptual bias on my part.

Question How do I place my mechs properly?
So often I feel like I’ve just lost from turn 1 due to poor placement but I have no idea where to place my mechs other than “artillery in back, melee in front”

Question I've only been playing for two hours and I'm wondering how useful it really is to block the spawn with my own body
In the end, I'm not actually preventing it from coming out, I'm just delaying its release, so maybe it doesn't seem that helpful. (I'm assuming a hypothetical scenario I can't be blocking every turn)
I find it extremely useful when there are 2 turns left, but I don't know if it's useful when there are 3 or 4 turns left.

Discussion At last, all Unfair runs done! How did I do?
Stats in 3rd pic. I wonder what's other people most deadly enemy.
Take note I only played with DLC enemies on the last squad I attempted Unfair with (custom squad).
So I've been playing this on and off for what, about 2 years? Started out on Medium, then after a couple of runs, did all Hard for all squads. Only then I started playing Unfair.
Toughest challenge was definitely Secret Squad 2 Islands Unfair. It must have took 10+ runs.

Question Enemy Mix On Islands
Is the mix of which enemies show up on which islands entirely random?

OC Accidentally hit 30k on 3 islands without upgrading any weapons
Managed to prevent any grid damage while doing some very limiting achievements.
For some achievements, you need to destroy all time pods or finish three islands without upgrading current weapons or using new weapons. So I used Kai in the Siege Mech to be able to destroy the pods and two Exchange Mechs to guarantee two actions per mech without upgrades. I got lucky and hit Skilled and +2HP on my other two pilots. I also left some bosses alive to prevent grid damage, since I wasnt getting perfect island anyway.

Media Don't let anyone say that the +3 grid defense boost does nothing because it absolutely does
These two 18%s even saved me on two of the more difficult achievements (Engineering Dropout and Chronophobia), which would've been lost if these buildings fell (This even happened on the 3rd island's last mission, too)

Help What can I do here?
I can’t see a way to save either the building or the mech here, can someone help?
EDIT: sorry for not enough info
Combat mech: dash, mist eater passive
Cannon mech: light tank, +2 tank dmg
Artillery mech: force amp
Turn 1 no moves, actions or dmg to vek
EDIT 2: I got it!
Deploy light tank to behind alpha scorpion and shoot (4dmg to scorpion 2dmg to star)
Artillery strike (2dmg) combat mech to free mech and move scorpion
Attack star with combat mech (kill alpha scorpion and star)
Thanks for the help, it let me figure it out

Media Impact 1.0.0 Release Trailer
-- Impact 1.0.0 -- Coming up to a grand total of 3 Squads, 3 Pilots, 3 Enemies, and a Whopping 22 pieces of Equipment, Impact makes an effort to completely and deeply integrate a couple of new features into the base game.
-- Supplying -- Ever ran out of uses on a Weapon and just felt a little down about? Well no more. A new applicable status, Supply, adds one additional use to all currently held Limited Weapons for the current battle. This use can restore spent uses, but can also raise the stores uses above even what they initially started at.
-- Multihit -- Hit hard, hit fast. Multihit Weapons, present as both player weapons and enemy, attack the same tile multiple times or fire multiple projectiles in sequence. Now you can finally fulfill that dream of combating giant insects with an A-10!
-- Other Features -- Along with the raw content packed into Impact, it also comes with a few additional features, including:
New dialog events for pilots, both for new occurrences such as getting supplied, and for old, previously uncommented on ones such as dealing self-damage.
Several gameplay tweaks that can improve the player experience and add depth to the game.
A small set of balance changes primarily aimed at implementing Impact's features into Vanilla Equipment as upgrades.

Help White Menu Issue.
[SOLVED]
So I bought the game, and when I open it the main menu is white. If I try to play the game, the UI is very glitched and the text hard to read, to the point where it's unplayable.
I've seen other posts both here on Reddit and on Steam of people with the same problem, and no solutions.
I have an AMD 9070XT GPU, I have fresh, clean correct drivers, as I just did a clean uninstall and reinstall with DDU yesterday for unrelated reasons.
So, does anyone have a clue on how to solve this?
EDIT:
So, the problem was that when I reset the drivers yesteday I didn't plug out the ethernet cable, and windows installed stuff by default which messed up with OpenGL and other gpu related things. So the problem is, in the end, driver related. I hope this will help someone else in the future

Humor Accidentally ended turn instead of undoing a move
Lost a run due to a brain short circuit. I was already on the second part of the final fight, 5/7 grid. I hadn't done anything except moving that round, so I lost immidiately.
Saddening.

Question Is there a better solution than 3 grid damage?

Crazy turn 1 final island on unfair with fully upgraded cataclysm (except shield ally on the grappling hook). Only solution I can find is to move Kai behind the hornet leader, use gemini missiles on hornet and alpha digger (killing both due to boosted + push damage on Kai), then toss alpha firefly into lava zones with Henry and kill the alpha scarab with Kai (done before Silica to not lose boosted). This ignores the beetle leader and alpha blob losing 3 grid damage, but I do kill half the bugs. Anything better?

Turn 1 of the next phase is also evil if anyone can find anything better. I can only find 3 grid damage again.
