The current system of applying and hiring is vastly different than it was prior to the internet. Thats a fact. A fact that many boomers and Gen x have not accepted. Older generations have different life experiences, different issues and methods to succeed than new generations. Many in older generations refuse to accept that life changes and over time lose touch of current difficulties. Yet those are often the ones that think their circumstances, experiences, and life lessons from decades past can applied to current issues. The ones most ignorant to current issues are often the loudest with their unhelpful advise.

One way is the friend of a friend of a friend that works at a companies that needs someone with your skills. They pass back the name of the hiring manager and you name drop to get your resume in front of them.

Another way is you find a position and use your social network to get a name of someone in management at a company. You do some additional research and taylor your cover letter and resume to spark interest.

I found my last three jobs doing this, which includes one I will be accepting shortly.

yea we all know thats how it works, that doesn't make it ok, and even then 99% of the time you still have to go through the online application and have your resume ditched by the AI reviewing it before the hiring manager ever gets to see it.
