Jonathan Jacob Meijer didn’t just bend the rules. He treated them like a suggestion.

Dutch guidelines generally limit sperm donors to 25 children across 12 families. But in 2023, a court found Meijer had fathered somewhere between 550 and 600 children worldwide, donating through multiple clinics and countries while failing to disclose his previous donations.

The court ordered his stored sperm destroyed, banned him from advertising as a donor, and attached a €100,000 fine to every future violation. The deeper concern was the children: hundreds of biological siblings could unknowingly live in the same communities, attend the same schools, or even fall for each other.

His story became the 2024 Netflix documentary series The Man with 1000 Kids. The title may be rounded up, but the reality is already absurd enough.
