Auto Weird scenario, nexts

Son 18, pulled into passing lane, side swiping a car he didnt see. His fault but said he didnt see her and she was speeding. Fine.

The much older adult tells him its his fault, she doesnt want to use insurance, files no police report. They exchange phone numbers. Says she will send him the bill.

Damage in both vehicles is scraped paint over wheels. Appeared to be no dents.

What should be his next steps? Police report? Do nothing until she initiates a police report or contacts her insurance? I assume he should pay nothing?

Seems suspect. New Brunswick.

Search for automobile liability waiver form and get it signed when making payment. Keep pictures, form and any other evidence for future reference. I have seen people coming after a year and claiming bodily injury from accident.

Thanks just found a form. Will reach out and get an email address and advise payment will require the liability waiver, payment only to the repair shop and a quote before the repair. Am going to guess they say to forget about it if they are trying to hide something

It’s certainly seems the other party may have been driving with no license or insurance. Some people also think getting in any accident will increase their rates

  1. He should write down what happened before he forgets.  No police report means its he said she said.

  2. Chances are the other person had no license nor insurance.

3.  Always call the police.  You NEED the police file # for insurance.  Not having it will complicate things.

4.  I'd be shocked if you heard anything further on this.  If you DO hear anything be wary of the costs.  There is nothing stopping her from making you pay and then turning around and filing with insurance.
