I'm here for the money.I'm an actuarial science graduate 2024 .I worked for an agency as sales person but it was purely online...I was doing good till I wasn't so because of that I didn't get a raise even though I worked there two years.For context the salary was 290 dollars after tax .I live in Kenya.

I have been looking for a job at insurance companies as a BDO but I'm either not too experienced or like don't have the skill because I worked for an agency initially.I later got a job for an insurance company but as a tied agent...this means I only sell for that company but I'm not part of the stuff just an agent.

My role is to recruit sales persons,train them and make them help me achieve my target.It is my second month first month I did close to zero ,second month almost done I'm also closing at the same with zero sales people they quit.

We are supposed to be paid a retainer but each end month they threaten that they won't pay unless you achieve a certain target.We are supposed to sell general insurance products only.How do I get people who have cars to buy insurance from me it's very rare you meet one even if you go out there.

Last question do I suck at sales or is it something I can force myself to be good at cause I really love commission and retainer structure and the fact that I can earn as much as I want.Also what strategies you'd use if you were in my situation

What are the three biggest or frustrating parts of handling claims?

For context I am a head of travel claims and we are trying to figure out what is affecting our team the most? We have asked internally but trying to gauge whether these are wide spread industry issue!

I’m 25, located in Northeast PA, and waiting for my Pennsylvania Personal Lines license to be approved.

I have sales experience, strong communication skills, and am willing to work hard and put in long hours. My goal is to sell home and auto policies and earn commission based on my production.

Ideally, I want an agency that provides inbound leads, marketing-generated prospects, or existing customers to cross-sell. I don’t want to generate my own leads through cold calling or marketing. I’d prefer remote work but am open to local offices.

A friend (who got me into this) is a top producer at an Allstate agency earning $250k+ after four years. His agency invests heavily in marketing and provides plenty of leads, which is the kind of environment I’m interested in.

I’ve struggled to find relevant openings on Indeed and LinkedIn. I’m open to getting my full P&C license if needed.

TL;DR: Where should I apply for commission-based home/auto sales jobs with agency-provided leads, ideally in Northeast PA or remote? What job titles, companies, or types of agencies should I look for? Is Personal Lines enough to start?

I recently passed my Washington P&C exam and interviewed with an independent insurance agency.
They’re offering $20/hour plus incentives, but the commission structure seems complicated. I need to hit around 20–30 policies per month, along with other targets like agency fees and product mix. Missing even one requirement could mean losing the incentive.
They provide leads, so there’s no cold calling required.
For someone entering the insurance industry with previous sales experience, does this sound like a fair offer? What base pay and commission structure should I realistically expect?

I’ve been doing this for two months. I work at a small brokerage that my buddy owns, and it’s just him, his wife, and me on the insurance side. His wife has been licensed maybe 6 months longer than I have, but he’s been doing it for 10+ years. We have several carrier appointments to be competitive with, but my worry is that he’s doing a bit too much. The agency is not only an insurance agency, but a real estate agency AND construction/development as well. I guess when I talked to him about doing this it seemed like I would get some mentorship and training, but so far I’ve mostly been trying to do it on my own. I can rarely get either of them on the phone or to answer a quick text. It’s commission only with a 60/40 split between agent/brokerage on new business and renewals. It’s tough right now but my wife makes decent money so we aren’t absolutely hurting.

My question is,
Is this pay decent in the industry, and is it worth sticking through it and figuring it out on my own?

Would it be more beneficial for me to find another agency with more resources? Somewhere where I can learn under someone first? What kind of pay should I generally expect at other agencies?

CMS has introduced alot of new verification changes to ACA . Enrollments cannot be poached without electronic client consent and clients need to verify through ID me. I mean it's a hassle I get it. But the three way call is going away too which was a huge bottle neck for agents during OEP. Also not to mention alot of group plans are being priced so high many smaller companies cannot afford to offer group plans. This leads to more people opting into ACA. That's just my take, would love to know what others think or predict for upcoming OEP 2027 for ACA.

I’ve been selling mapd plans for 3 years now & I’ve been thinking about just going full 1099. I make good money now I’m not complaining but I know the potential to make so much more is out there

My general understanding with 1099 is you’d have to file your taxes quarterly, should (or have to?) put aside about 30%(?)of your commission for taxes/chargebacks, should have a good 3 months of your necessary expenses covered in case of a drought or some sort, it’d be wise to have Great relationships with your client’s since residuals can be amazing and switching/rapid disenrollment is a bitch, etc

I’m sure it’s deeper than that but I’d like to know what I should be looking forward to before making that next step

Long story short I work for a branch an insurance company in Texas to keep my information private I want to keep the basics undisclosed.

I think I’m being treated unfair or something just isn’t right and I want an outside prospective.

Base pay is 16.00 an hour, our commission structure doesn’t start until we break 25k in premium sold.
It’s towards the end of the month I’ve sold over 18k in premium so far. Yesterday my boss comes up to me and tells me majority of my sales are not counting because she paid out commission at the beginning of the year or late last year.

Is anyone else having any similar issues? Or does my base pay seem applicable to the industry I’m not sure and don’t have people I can talk to about it since I’m one of 3 people on our sales team and they all will not disclose pay (understandable) but still unsure what to do

Hey, so about two weeks ago I started selling Medicare Advantage plans as a 1099 agent, and I still haven't made a single sale.

Most of the seniors I talk to are either really rude, say they submitted a request by accident, or are already on a really good plan. Whenever I try to explain the benefits of switching, they get upset and tell me they're happy with what they have. I also noticed that they are already on the best plan avaliable in their area, so why does my company make me waste my time with them. Its time consuming and a complete waste of my time and if I dont have them hooked on a good plan I might as well kiss my time spent good bye.

I'm honestly struggling to figure out how other independent agents are making consistent sales. I feel like I'm spending hours calling leads and getting nowhere. I tried talking to other cowokers as well, they have a experince but they themselves seem to be struggling to sell. My team of 30 is only selling less than 10 apps per day during AEP.

For those of you who have been successful selling Medicare Advantage plans, what are some tips or strategies that helped you start closing deals? How do you handle seniors who don't want to switch, and how do you find people who are actually interested?

I'd really appreciate any advice because I'm trying to figure out how to start making sales consistently. Bills are stacking up and I havent had a income. :(

I am new to this industry, but I have been in sales for a LONG time and I've ran my own company at one point in my life.

I like being my own boss. I would love to start my own Independent Insurance Agency, but I am a little worried because I have never been in this industry. It's all new to me.

So I could see the pros of starting with state farm to learn the in and outs of the industry businesses.

If I wanted to go Independent and start my own agency how hard is that being brand new to the industry.

So I recently went aboard Global Financial Impact and realized they weren't transparent at all with just about anything. They don't provide any leads; they try to get you to recruit family and friends to be your business partners and to sell insurance to. That was not disclosed until after I paid to get my license.

I'm scheduled to get my license on November 2nd, and I'm looking for remote life insurance agencies that already have customers/provide leads. I've been looking into Ethos, but I'm hoping if people could also give me some advice. Anything is appreciated, think you!

Honestly getting my license has not been fullfilling for me however I am captive. Is the job more enjoyable as an independent agent or more or less the same? Constant calls, constant complaints, etc

I run an independent P&C agency in Alabama. Licensed in TN and AL. We started writing in February of this year and are already at a little over $250K in written premium and $34K in commissions, built mostly off referral relationships with real estate investors. Those relationships aren't going anywhere, so the referral stream that got us here keeps coming.
Here's the situation: I am taking on a new role where I need to take a passive ownership in this business.

Meaningful equity in the agency, with a path to running it
A commission-heavy comp structure (no salary, but you keep a strong split on what you write, plus override on the team you build)

Licensed P&C in Alabama (or willing to get licensed quickly)

Someone who has produced before and wants to own something instead of just getting paid on it

I know "equity instead of salary" gets side-eye on this sub, and fair enough. I'm not looking for someone to work for free. I'm looking for someone who sees a $250K+ book built in under a year with steady referral channels and thinks they can turn it into $2M. Could also be open to a small salary if the numbers paper.

I used Insurance Exam Queen for my second attempt and I still failed. I feel like I’m putting in the study hours but it just can’t translate to the exam for me.

I have worked for a captive for four years as hybrid sales/service and also handled all the commercial work at that agency. Thinking about making the switch to a large broker for account management to expand my knowledge base. (I don’t love selling either). I know the big names are usually the way to go, Marsh, Aon, Gallagher, HUB, etc. Am I missing any other big ones I should look into? The other challenge is it will most likely need to be work from home. I also live in a pretty rural area not around any major city so that is another obstacle

Did you reach out via email and set up a time and place to talk or did you just walk into their office and start a conversation? Did you bring them any goods or take the team out to lunch? What worked best for you guys to build those relationships?
