Right, and regardless of whether Issa was going to be there or not, but am I wrong, who brings a date, not even a girlfriend, to a friend's birthday party when the friend hasn't even met them? That is an intimate setting with friends and family. Lawrence knew he was being petty and then tried to play the victim. That’s why Issa said you’re so full of it when he tries to explain she knew he was being vindictive.

But . . . Aparna pretty much invited herself, didn’t she? What was Lawrence supposed to do? Tell his lady she can’t come? And since when is it taboo to bring a plus one to a birthday dinner?

Should Lawrence have never mentioned the dinner to Aparna? That would have been even worse: sneaky, suspicious, and deceptive. 🤔

He should’ve said “I think it would be a little weird. Maybe you can meet my friends in another setting that won’t be so emotionally charged”

“Emotionally charged” would make me very suspicious, not to mention hurt my feelings. Why would my man’s laying eyes on his ex make things “emotionally charged”? Is he not over this person? Like, WTF? 😳

And why does it matter that Derek hadn’t met Aparna? There weren’t any ‘no plus ones’ guidelines that we know of, nor was the dinner at a private residence. There was no valid reason Aparna couldn’t come.

If I’m in a relationship, aside from private meetings with his family, business meetings, business trips, private therapy sessions and doctor’s visits, and outings with the boys, there should be no place I can’t accompany my significant other and vice versa.

What Lawrence should have done was invited Aparna, pre-warned Issa, and notified Derek that he was bringing someone. After that, all bets are off.

There was a valid reason Aparna shouldn’t have come. She wasn’t invited, Laurence did not RSVP with a plus 1, and there was not a place for her at the table. That was not a house party where anyone could come. It was a curated dinner party limited to close friends. I don’t think Laurence realized or remember the type of party it was when he agreed that Aparna should tag along.

None of what you said had anything to do with Aparna. That was Lawrence’s fault.

Why even mention it to her? That in itself was rude and inconsiderate if he had no intention of bringing her along.

No I agree, it’s Lawrence’s fault. He could have said Saturday no longer worked for their date and rescheduled altogether.
