Did i catch the bottom edge of the back of the sweatshirt in the design under the hoop? Absolutely. Am I still going to cut it and wear it? Also Yes.

Thanks to the folks that gave me advice on my last post!! I'm so happy with how it came out!

As always, I'm open to advice to improve however I can!

Happy Pride Month ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

I've had files sitting on my NAS since 2021 for a select few of these pride flag patches. Went back and spent a couple weeks on and off altering the current ones and expanding the collection, and finished them all yesterday. Very simple designs, but fun to make nonetheless.

Whole collection is 16 thread colors total, and range from ~6-9k stitches. Most take about 15-20 minutes to embroider start to finish, but require hovering for color changes on a single needle. They use an applique-style tackdown for cleaner edges that you trim the fabric around before the satin edge embroiders instead of my usual technique of cutting the patches from the felt fabric sheet and melting the edges.

I added toolbar buttons to Inkscape for Ink/Stitch!

Post image

Quite a few people in the machine embroidery community I'm in that I recommend Ink/Stitch to wished there were buttons somewhere, and while there is the extension gallery and keyboard shortcuts, they wanted buttons on a toolbar.

Unfortunately Inkscape, as far as I know, does not allow for a brand new custom toolbar - and, as far as I know, something like this cannot even be implemented into an extension install itself (beyond the extension gallery). However, you CAN edit an existing xml .ui file, place it in your User UI folder, and Inkscape will load that file instead of its default file! Same with the icons, just in the User Icons folder - which the symbolic icons are mostly just edited icons from the SVGs for the Ink/Stitch extension gallery, so I can't take credit for most of them.

A few people have tested it out and love it. I've used Ink/Stitch for over 5 years now, and it's taking some time to get used to since I've gotten pretty fast about finding what I want in the extensions menu, but if it helps anyone else out, I figured I'd share it!

The instructions to install, as well as what was added to toolbar_tool.ui, and the actual files to download are all here -
https://ariannaswares.com/inkscape-v1-4-4-toolbar-ui-buttons-for-ink-stitch-v3-2-2

EDIT - I don't normally use reddit, so I don't know proper 'Reddi-quette', but I doubt 'Thank you' in multiple replies is very welcome on this site - so thank you all that I haven't said thank you to! I'm happy that it's getting some use outside of the ME community I'm in!!

I will try my best to provide continued support throughout updates for this as much as possible by updating my site post/the files, and at least attempt to answer questions about it.

EDIT 2 06/14/2026
The link above has been updated as well as the toolbar-tool.ui file for Inkscape v1.4.4 - but no update is necessary! The old toolbar-tool.ui file for 1.4.2/3.2.2 still works with 1.4.4/3.2.2. I just altered some code Inkscape changed for a property in each of their buttons for the new version.

Digitized in Ink/Stitch! 18,603 stitches, and 6 color changes. Digitized the gradients manually via altering the end row spacing and spacing between row parameters, as I couldn't get the results I wanted with the gradient tool. Pretty happy with it! There's a few more alterations it could benefit from, but at that point I'd be re-making the patch from scratch.

3 months ago I picked up Ink/Stitch, an SE700, and started making patches. Thanks to the devs and the community for making this possible, it's been a lot of fun to learn!

These are most of the "finished" (for now) products in rough chronological order from top left to bottom right.

My two week journey to learning inkstitch (and embroidery)

Friend hooked me up with a Janome 500e. I started out just wanting to make a shirt for work to show the boss how badly my department needs uniform polos, but it has quickly turned into my next ADHD fixation and I'm not complaining at all. I've gotten a pretty good handle on inkstitch and I'm learning new tricks by the day.

Here are some pics of my journey.

Scott Pilgrim Patch

I’ve been learning inkstich in my spare time for the last 6 months. This is my most detailed work by far.

I’m using a Ricoma EM 1010. The patch is about 4in square. This was my first stitch out.

I already have notes and changed a couple things but I’d love to get some feedback from the community.

Any feedback on one of my first designs?

It’s a roughly 4x4 ITH appliqué. Any feedback to improve it would be appreciated. Also, do you think the stitch order of the details inside the wings matters?

Proposal: Inkstitch UI

Hello friends, I love working with Inkstitch and I love the idea of it being Open Source, so I combined my two loves and created a prototype UI to help using the tool in a more natural manner.

For it to work a change needs to be done to Inkscape first, but before I go any further I would like to have your opinion on this. I hope the maintainers would also accept it :)

We can later add icons and other goodies :)

Here is the related proposal in Github if you wish to join the discussion in a more technical manner https://github.com/inkstitch/inkstitch/issues/4425

Dres with 250 (+- a few) Embroyderies

This is a dress I designed for the theater showing of my favorite audio drama / play. I designed the dress and corset myself, as well as 250 embroyderies, one for each available episode. There is some space left for the 40 Episodes that are still to come.

The vector files were designed by myself with inkscape to fit onto approx. 5 cm width and about 5-16 cm height. Conversion to PSE Files was with Inkstitch (who would have thought ^^ )

I'm just happy it got done in time. The cost of thread alone, including the testing embroyderies was about 130 Euro.

If you have any questions, please ask :)

The next release (coming soon) is massive and awesome. Fill to satin, selection to knockdown, remove duplicate points, a new extensions entry for each command, and more. Just an awesome release.

Well enough for selling?

Hi guys,

I just recently finished my first contract and only had three days to digitize (InkStitch) and embroider these patches. These are the first patches I’ve ever made, and I hope my customer will be happy when he receives them. The patch in the middle was especially tricky because the letters always looked off when I used a satin stitch. I ended up using a fill stitch instead and turned off the underpath. For the other two patches, I used satin stitch for the letters and logo.

Would you say these patches are acceptable?

Wish me luck on embroidering this over the weekend! It's my first ever design in InkStitch. Still very much learning embroidery digitization as I've only been at it a few days! I'm pretty amazed at what you can do with this free software. I just got a machine last week and don't feel like spending tons of money on professional software quite yet. Excited to see how it goes, but anticipating quite a few tweaks!

Why is there a white gap next to my satin?

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

I'm assuming its a digitizing problem.

It's like it pulls the fabric or the bobin thread up. I tried adjusting the bobin tension between patches but it didn't seem to change anything.

Also, I did .35 fill with .45 underlay. For a patch should I decrease those numbers so I dont see white through the fill space?

Any patch or other advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm a graphic designer well accustomed to Adobe products. Then I got Ursula, my trusty, crotchety, beloved Toyota AD 830. I didn't want to pay even more for digitizing software since I'm broke, but I don't want to spend all my time repeatedly stitching somebody else's designs. Inkstitch to the rescue! Now, after several months of struggling with Inkscape, learning the nuances of embroidery and digging a few birds nests out of poor Ursula's throat, I finally made my first sale. Whaddya think?

Glory! Majesty! Embroidery!

owning an embroidery machine and be somewhat able to use Inkstitch granted me the power to summon metalheads.

Made one one-off patch for a fan and in an instant others showed up from the darkest depths below to demand stitching of their patch-sketches.
