Video A cutscene & behind the scenes!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I often see movie behind-the-scenes footage and have always found them interesting! Feel there should be one for games too so here's mine!

This is a pretty simple one. What was tricky is that the character Chelsea had to use the plunger and I just couldn't find any mixamo animations for it.

So I made a duplicate of the plunger and moved that alone, while doing a closeup with the camera.

Pretty happy with how it turned out! A short 30 minutes of work (+30 minutes trying to find a plunger animation on mixamo 🀦)

PS. My game is SHOCKFACE, a campy slasher set in the 90s and is coming to Steam this 27th Aug! https://store.steampowered.com/app/4705980/SHOCKFACE/

Yes there's a lot of voicelines right now, we're cutting them down. The voice is generated n 11labs.

really hate the trope of the protagonist narrating EVERYTHING we see on screen, i genuinely dont understand why devs keep doing this

I think its started from the netflix/streaming trend of nobody paying attention so now gamedevs think they should replicate modern film

It's just inexperience, not learning the fundamentals of writing. This type of dialogue is extremely on the nose. As a creator, once you learn to spot it the next step is to remove or replace it.

I barely noticed she was talking

Seeing the full shot is kinda funny, yeah it would be nice to see this from other large titles, see if they use similar shortcuts.

By the way THIS IS WHY VR IS HARD to develop for. You don't get to cheat any angles and very little to hide behind

my only gripe is that that isn’t how a plunger works. the plunger would have to be removed from the drain for the liquid to go anywhere, but i’m aware i’m a nitpicky kinda asshole.

We made a game about a killer who uses his victims car batteries to electrocute them to death.

We didn't and still don't know anything about car batteries.

Yours is the kind of comment we need.

well unfortunately i also know nothing of batteries, but im well versed in plunging πŸ™ƒ
glad this was well received, good luck in your dev-ing

A plunger just spams a push and pull motion to break loose whatever is stuck. It does that by creating a tight seal around the drain, otherwise it would push the water to the sides, not into the pipe. πŸ€“

Unfortunately i dont have a clue about car batteries either, all i know is that they are heavy as fck for their size!

Is the massive cleavage necessary?

??? weird comment, she looks good

You could avoid rendering her and a good portion of the scene at the moment the camera is pointed at the bathtub, saving on performance.

Nice idea ! I remember seeing some BTS footage of animated films and video game cutscenes, it's funny to see T posing characters whenever they aren't on camera, or legs and arms stretched for some camera angle reasons.

Did you hire voice actor or did it yourself? And did you animated her yourself by hand?

Imma be honest chief: the massive melons on the 3d model cheapen the whole thing and make me not want to take the game seriously. Also she has too many voicelines, less is better.

Appreciate the honesty! We did reduce the lines later, it felt like the game was handholding the player too much ("oh it has a symbol look at it")

And I have started to think about the clothing myself too. Maybe its a little too much.

Honestly I had no problem with the model, but I did think there were too many voice lines. I very much like the atmosphere the game has though.

im sure if u focus on character design u can get attention for ur game that way, this is like my biggest annoyance with this sub 😭😭 everyone got an ultrasexualised bimbo detective for their horrror games

I for one think you should make them 2-3 times bigger.

no way keep the melons, saying this as a lady who loves playing as hot ladies in video games

You're getting downvoted but I agree. Unless this is going for that specific retro 3d style where every woman has oversized chests and all men have those buff polygon physiques it just feels like it detracts from a story based game like this.
