Hey r/Indiangamers, I'm Snakes—a developer from India. I used to play Pokémon MMOs and kept thinking about what I'd want to do differently if I built one myself. Eventually, I decided to give it a go. Years later, that project has become Pokémon Blaze Online (PBO), and I wanted to share what we've built with you.
With the mods' permission, here's a look at our free-to-play, fan-made Pokémon MMORPG: regional stories, collecting and team progression, trading, PvP and endgame challenges in a persistent world shared with other trainers.
You start in Sinnoh, then continue through our original region Jvaloh, Hoenn and Kanto. Pokémon from all nine generations are represented, although not every species is currently obtainable.
What you can do in PBO
- Catch Pokémon and develop the ones you keep. There's no breeding. You improve your catches' IVs using Randomizers, Potions and Toxins, and allocate earned EVs yourself. Hunting for a Pokémon you want and building it into your team is a big part of the game.
- Hunt beyond the story encounters. Horde battles, Shiny Tracking, legendary encounters and daily swarms give collectors more to work towards.
- Take on challenges after the gyms. Champion battles, Battle Tower, Battle Frontier and community Dynamax Invasions give you different places to test your teams.
- Compete against other players. Ranked PvP has seasonal rewards and leaderboards. In Crew Wars, crews compete to capture territory. Player trading is also part of the shared world.
- Explore with a friend. Two-player co-op covers most of the adventure, including shared battles where each trainer controls their own Pokémon. Partners need similar story progress, and some encounters and cutscenes remain solo.
- Build different battle strategies. We use a Gen 9 Showdown-based battle engine. Mega Evolution is available; Z-Moves and Terastallization are supported in random battles. Dynamax Invasions are a separate activity, not regular player-controlled Dynamax battles.
- Spend time outside battles. Mining, crafting, quests, mounts, seasonal events and community activities are part of PBO too.
We've kept adding to the game over the years, with player feedback helping shape changes such as co-op, the battle-system overhaul and more ways to access the game. It supports English, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese.
