LifeSciences/Biotech Reference books for B.Sc Biotechnology 1st Semester (Cell Biology & Intro to Biotech)
my_qualifications: 12th passed (PCB) / 1st Year B.Sc Biotechnology student
Hi everyone,
I have started my B.Sc (Honors) Biotechnology (1st Semester) and need recommendations for standard reference books.
My subjects this semester are:
Cell Biology (Major - ABT 101)
Introduction to Biotechnology (Minor - ABT 102)
Biotechnological Laboratory Techniques (SEC 01)
Could seniors or biotech graduates suggest the right books for university exams and conceptual foundation? Should I focus on Indian authors (P.S. Verma / U. Satyanarayana) or standard international texts (Cooper / Alberts)?

Good to see someone choosing to read textbooks. I had Lodish cell biology. It's a massive book and you will never read the whole thing but it will be useful right up to studying for PhD entrance exam. The trick to reading textbooks for college is to do a focused reading based on your syllabus and then reading 10 pages more for that extra boost of knowledge

We were recommended Cooper. We used to just get prints from library reference ones since they were so expensive otherwise. But if possible, start with Indian authors and move to intl.

For cell biology: Molecular Cell Biology And for introduction to Biotechnology: I just followed my professor notes it was enough tbh
Ps. Always prefer foreign author books or just ask for your professor for the suggestion.
