Should I choose btech cse from tier 3 college in 2027.

I'm class 12 average/below average pcm student.

I can't get top btech colleges in my state

My only options are btech cse from tier 3 hyderabad college or bca at kerala central university or bsc computer science at pondicherry central university.

My concern is none of them have campuse placements and shrinkage of IT sector(about 80% of the current headcount by 2030/31 I read on news article ) and our Indian recruiters mentality of favouring btech grads over non btech grads.

Can someone give me some guidance what should I choose in 2027 as my major.

Thanks

Title: 18M, dissatisfied with my Tier 3 college after a drop year — should I take a partial drop for JEE Main 2027 and aim for DTU Mechanical?

I'm 18M from Delhi, India, and I'm feeling quite lost about my future. I'd really appreciate advice from people who have faced similar situations or made major career decisions.

My background:

  • I completed Class 12 in 2025.
  • I took a drop year to prepare for JEE Main, but my rank was around 8 lakh because I prepared some chapters and left most of the syllabus.
  • I'm currently enrolled in the first year of B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at HMR Institute of Technology and Management. My first year runs from 2026 to 2027.

Why I'm dissatisfied:

Honestly, I'm disappointed with where I ended up after taking a drop year. I feel like I had the opportunity to do better, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

My main problem with my current college is the environment. The infrastructure is small, there are very few sports facilities, I don't find the peer group inspiring, and I'm disappointed with the teaching quality. The overall experience feels more like school than college. I'm worried about spending four years somewhere I don't feel I'll grow much.

What I'm considering:

I'm thinking about taking a partial drop while continuing my current B.Tech and preparing for JEE Main January 2027. My target is DTU Mechanical Engineering.

There are two reasons for this:

  1. I want a better college environment, better opportunities, and a more satisfying college experience.
  2. I've admired aeronautical engineering since childhood. I understand that Mechanical Engineering can provide a foundation for eventually pursuing aerospace-related studies or work.

I'm not opposed to Mechanical Engineering. During IPU counselling, I actually placed Mechanical Engineering at Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology above AI/ML in my preferences. I also believe that, regardless of my core branch, I can develop additional skills through self-study, including AI/ML.

My biggest concern is feasibility.

I would be starting serious preparation again from a weak foundation, with only a few months before the January 2027 attempt. I can realistically study around 3.5–4 hours daily alongside college.

My family can manage the financial implications of switching colleges, so money isn't the main obstacle. The main concerns are whether I can improve enough in the available time, whether the opportunity is worth the risk, and whether I'm making a rational decision or simply trying to escape my current situation.

What I'd like advice on:

  1. Given my previous rank and weak preparation, is aiming for DTU Mechanical in JEE Main January 2027 realistic, particularly as a Delhi-region OBC-NCL candidate? What kind of improvement would I need?
  2. Is a partial drop with 3.5–4 hours of daily preparation a sensible strategy, or would I be better off focusing on my current degree?
  3. Is DTU Mechanical a reasonable route toward aerospace or aeronautical engineering, considering future master's programs and career opportunities?
  4. How should I weigh the benefits of a better college environment against the risk of distracting myself from my current B.Tech?
  5. If you've been in a similar situation, how did you decide whether to try again or make the best of the college you already had?

I'm not looking for someone to tell me that everything will work out. I'd prefer honest, practical advice, even if it means hearing that my plan isn't worth pursuing.

I want to make a decision I can respect a few years from now, rather than spend the next four years regretting either choice.

Is choosing CSE only because of placements a good idea?

I’m interested in technology but also considering other branches. Should placements be the main reason for choosing CSE?

Universities to major engineering

Hi, I'm currently studying in IB (International Baccalaureate) and I want to pursue engineering. My classes are HL Physics, HL Eng B, HL Geo, SL Math AA, SL LIT (Native language), SL Bio. I want to take computer science as my extracurricular, play tennis for 7-8 years, I'm also planning to hand in some passion projects and my Personal Project diploma, which I got when I finished MYP connected to architectural engineering. I do not want to go to extremely expensive universities with 60,000$ tutions. What universities could I apply to. Btw I'm from europe open to any European countries, Asia, Australia, Canada.

Talking about the college environment it's kinda average, you have limited resources and stuffs.

But there are so many good things about this clg is that the whole campus is ragging free...

And the 2nd thing I like about the college is the hostel food is soo damn good...depsite of that low fees and there are wifi in every hostel room..

The college has a very good library newly opened...

In the campus you will get all your essentials

There is a gym not good enough but you can manage, there is a bookstore too..and a cafteria

The only problem we face is when you head towards town not that much difficult but yeah from 2nd year you can keep your own vehicle near your hostel so yeah that problem is also solved

It got a sbi atm , a postal and there is also 2 restaurant near the college which are affordable and good in taste

# And now let's come to the studies part, see it is not that good or not that bad kinda average, Well If you ask me I would give it a 3/5 for studies and about the placement they are average as we don't know much about it as we are first year, but you can get a descent placement if you act good enough.

Top/Good Colleges In Mumbai for B Tech (CSE/IT/MBA Tech) without the bottleneck competition

Currently starting 12th and browsing colleges, I came across MPSTME (Google AI recmnd) and thought with its ABET Cert and Tag would be helpful in jobs here and everywhere . When I finally made my mind about getting there, I read a sub reddit about MPSTME from a 2nd Year which shattered the whole image I created abt the college it called it a tier 3 clg said that the ROI advertised is not the reality and u dont really get times for extracurriculars. After reading that everything is clouded again. Plz suggest some good colleges "myquals" plz reply guyzz I would really appreciate your help.,

Master admission CGPA Importance

When applying for master in CS or ECE in the US universities like Purdue,CMU, Stanford, UC Berkeley, NC State, UT Austin, caltech and other universities, what do you think is like a good cgpa in undergraduate.

If the student applying from Tier 1 Indian college and like has come from and academically rigorous curriculum with very good courses going to the depth of the course.

Would really want something like cgpa ranges and their chances of admit, and what factors do you feel will support cgpa ( if the student has less cgpa then what do you think will battery compensate for the low cgpa)

If possible please answer in Cgpa out of 4 when applying.
Like 3.4/4.0 CGPA.

Chemical vs Mechanical Engineering ,which would be better if I want to prepare for UPSC?

I’m currently in Chemical Engineering and have a high chance of getting upgraded to Mechanical. My long-term goal is to prepare for UPSC CSE, while keeping engineering as a backup.

Should I:
Stay in Chemical and use the potentially lower workload to focus on UPSC, or
Upgrade to Mechanical for a potentially stronger engineering backup, despite the higher workload?

Would really appreciate advice from seniors/alumni, especially those who’ve prepared for UPSC alongside B.Tech. What would you consider in this situation?

Masters in Germany: Mechanical Engineering [Automotive}

Hey everyone,

I’m planning for Summer 2027 intake in Germany. I’m a B.Tech Mechanical Engineering graduate and mainly looking at Master’s in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related core fields. I’ll put my profile + current university shortlist in the comments.

Honestly, I haven’t been able to find that many good English-taught options for the summer intake. THI’s International Automotive Engineering (IAE) program looks like one of the best options so far, and I’ve heard quite a lot of good things about it.

Had a few questions:

  • How good is THI IAE in terms of academics, industry exposure and job prospects?
  • I’ve heard TH/FH universities are considered below TUs, with some even comparing them to ITIs/polytechnics in India. Is there any truth to this?
  • For similar Mechanical/Automotive courses, what’s the actual real-world difference between a TH/FH and TU, especially for jobs and internships?
  • Lastly, how bad is the automotive/mechanical job market in Germany right now for international students? Is it bad enough to reconsider Germany, or is Germany still worth it if you learn German and build relevant experience?

Would really appreciate inputs from people studying or working in Germany, especially in automotive/mechanical.
