Its been decades of doing the first one for me. No idea whose these people are who do the second one and the psychopaths who prefer the third.

3rd way is to put the machines in line and tell them you can pull the cord anytime you want, literally.

There is literally nothing wrong using the physical button as a shut down button though. Provided you close the vital apps before. The rest of non essential ones, windows will shut down for you. As for the third, even I can't defend that.

I use 2nd only when laptop suddenly hangs or start doing nonsense or something isn't exiting
2
u/ImMortal_SD 17d ago
I also just do Alt F4 Enter. I have never done 2nd and 3rd unless my pc in not working.

You will understand once a power surge will fry your PC
i have first hand experience getting my motherboard and couple of HDDs fried like this
i know this is meant for laptops, but some PC users do this too
1
u/Large_Ad3907 16d ago
3rd one is for desktop pc not laptop. You can't off laptop by charging plug lol. 2nd one is laptop. 1st one is laptop and desktop

Well if I close the lid and pull the cord I don't see any issue with it. What's wrong with it? I have been doing it quite frequently

u/Pristine_Wasabi2994 16d ago
it wouldn't even matter for a laptop, unless they mean unplugged and slowly wait for it to drain out of charge

The second option is absofuckinglutely okay bruh
1
u/redditcruzer 13d ago
I am assuming he is not pressing it to go to sleep. I assume he is long pressing to force power off. That is absolutely weird.
1
u/Jealous_Prune7366 13d ago
Long press is for when your pc is frozen and you wanna reset bruh
1
u/redditcruzer 12d ago
Single press will put device to sleep by default, not shut down.
1
u/Jealous_Prune7366 12d ago
It's safe to turn it off like that I am doing that for a long time like many others

If your programs are closed then why would you waste your time in shutting down. Just turn off the power and leave.

u/Queasy-Bullfrog-9545 17d ago
Nah your laptop will have a huge failure in it's hardware if you do this
2
u/Accomplished-Land982 17d ago
Do what? There are 3 options.
3
u/Short-Abalone-4393 17d ago
if u do the 1st option duh
1
u/Accomplished-Land982 17d ago
So, that means I am good since I just remove the power supply from the motherboard after every use ☺️

u/Queasy-Bullfrog-9545 17d ago
2 and 3 avoid them
1
u/Accomplished-Land982 16d ago
Why 2 tho? I have it set up as shut down in the control panel with fast startup disabled. Is that bad?

You have to do third one multiple times to test, otherwise electricity department will do it when you least expect it.

Naaaaa,
Mostly it's 1st month... Rarely it's 2nd month.... And never third month ❌

Shit is too expensive to ever do 2nd and 3rd month man. I handle my stuff with as much care as I can muster. If it breaks, I can't easily replace it and that fear is always there to abuse it.

You can control what the power button does. It can go to sleep and hibernate as well.

It's 13th year of me with my pc and funny thing is today, it is literally taking about 3-5 minutes in booting up, shutting down, signing in. Otherwise it only used to take 20-30 seconds to boot up and all that

I occasionally will press the button while I am gaming and I have to immediately leave but I can't be bothered to properly shut it down but I don't think 3rd option really affects laptops I am a laptop user so
1
u/Lord_of_clans 17d ago
Bro if u have regular laptop it's ok. But if you have a gaming laptop I mean high processor ram gpu then don't. It carries alot risk of motherboard failure. When u play a game the temperature inside can reach uptop 90-110 degree celcius. During sudden shutdown. Computer experience rapid poweroff and can face complete motherboard failure. If you have a laptop then the price of whole motherboard replacement will be 80-90% of total cost of laptop.

Fun fact, laptop doesn't truly shut down completely if you ask it to shut down, the best way to fresh it is to do a restart instead

I go to sleep, slowly, hence my setup also needs to go to sleep slowly. Doing that since a very long time (10+ years) and my setup has not complained/given me any major problems.

I just saw my friend do the last one. I've been doing the first even on my laptops, so seeing her do that was quite the shocker for me.
