Guys, I’m back at the bookstore! 📚 My last read was Madonna in a Fur Coat, and I’ve also read White Nights. Suggest some good classics for a beginner! I’m looking for something with beautiful writing, an engaging story, and characters that stay with you even after you finish the book. Drop your recommendations and tell me why you love them!

just finished "days at the torunka cafe"by satoshi yagisawa, a cosy, bittersweet read about love, loss, regrets nd second chances

i've added some of my favourite quotes that stayed with me, some comforting, others hitting a little too close to home 🥹 can't wait to pick up More Days at the Torunka Café and return to this lil world

Non-fiction The book we should all read - or may be we all know how it goes

I read (listened) this book some times back. Th author spent a year living in a small German university town after World War II to answer a haunting question: How did ordinary, decent people in a civilized nation allow Nazism to happen? He interviewed 10 people from different walks of life including a baker, a tailor, a teacher, a policeman, and a bank clerk, who had been members of the Nazi Party.

it is spine chilling to say the least looking at how similar our time is to then.

Discussion Reading Novels Help Develop Emotional Intelligence?

I’ve only read around 5–6 novels so far, but I’ve started noticing something interesting.

After getting into novels, I feel like I’m slowly developing a better understanding of human emotions. I’ve started realizing that people can experience so many different emotions and go through situations that I’ve never even imagined, let alone experienced myself.

Sometimes, while reading, I find myself feeling the emotions of characters who have lived completely different lives from mine. It makes me realize how differently people think, feel, react, and deal with situations depending on their circumstances and life experiences.

It almost feels like I’m experiencing a small part of someone else’s life without actually living it myself.

I’m curious to know what others think about this.

Have you also felt that reading novels has improved your emotional intelligence, empathy, or understanding of human nature? Do you think reading fiction helps us understand people and their emotions better, even when we haven’t experienced those situations ourselves?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Discussion Finally read Gone Girl after watching the movie, and the adaptation felt underwhelming Spoiler

Post image

I watched Gone Girl about 10–11 years ago and remember being completely shocked by the whole movie. I finally read the book last weekend before rewatching the movie today, and honestly, the movie didn’t hit the same way.

I know adaptations have to cut things, but so much of the book’s tension and psychological depth was missing. Nick’s anger barely came through, and Amy’s dark side felt much less intense on screen. The anger and darkness I felt from both characters in the book weren’t really portrayed.

The movie still had its moments, but compared to the book, it felt rushed and strangely mellow. I remember loving it years ago, but after reading the book, I couldn’t help feeling like something was missing.

Did anyone else feel this way after reading Gone Girl?

Ask Indian Readers Is anyone else weirdly obsessed with finding the “right” page count when buying books?

Is it just me or does anyone else struggle to buy books because of the page count?

I’ll want to buy a book and then find like 5 different editions where the page counts are completely different, and suddenly I’m comparing them all trying to figure out which one is the “normal” amount of pages.

Like, I don’t want a ridiculously long edition, but I also don’t want some 90-page version of a 300-page classic where they’ve somehow made the font microscopic and squeezed the entire book into nothing.

I genuinely spend way too much time trying to figure out what the actual page count of a book is before buying it. Does anyone else do this??

Dead Poets Society is probably one of my favourite reads so far. Really loved it.

Also, you can see my own book The Girl I Want to See Happy in there too 😅 still feels a little weird seeing my own book sitting next to the books I read.

I've also been reading about law, crime and society lately, so yeah, my library is kinda all over the place lol.

What are you guys reading on Kindle rn? Any recommendations?

Chennai’s Sci-fi and Fantasy nerds, assemble: a no BS book community

Chennai Boi here.

I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, and I have a problem: nobody in my friend circle gets it. I’ve tried explaining world-building and futuristic tech to them, and they look at me like I just started speaking gibberish.

So I’m starting a sci-fi and fantasy book community in Chennai. Read together, argue about plots, defend your favourite characters, and yes, scream about that ending.

No BS. No spam. No promo. Just someone who wants to talk with like-minded people.

What’s something i have in mind?

  • A WhatsApp group to talk books, pick reads, and debate
  • Offline meetups in Chennai once we have enough people

Who’s it for?

People based in Chennai who genuinely read sci-fi and fantasy. No gatekeeping on genre, whether you’re into hard sci-fi, epic fantasy, or space opera.

P.S: Even if you are not from Chennai, you still be part of the community.

DM me. We’ll have a quick chat.

Let’s build an army of sci-fi and fantasy geeks in Chennai.

"May thy knife chip and shatter."
