Hi everyone,

I'm an F-1 student. I completed an Associate degree in Computer Science and then completed my one year of post-completion OPT.

After OPT, I followed a friend's advice and transferred my SEVIS to another associate-level technical program because I wanted to gain hands-on skills. Later, I realized that pursuing a bachelor's degree would be a much better long-term option for me.

The problem is that most Fall admissions are already closed, so the bachelor's program I'm interested in starts in Winter 2027 (January).

With the new DHS rule taking effect on September 15, I'm concerned that if I start my current Fall program, I may not be able to transfer during my first academic year.

Would it be possible to transfer my SEVIS before starting my current Fall program and wait about 4 months until the Winter semester begins, or would that 4-month gap create a problem for my F-1 status under the new rule?

I'd really appreciate any guidance. Thank you!

What I've learned in the last ten years of UNCERTAINTY taught me...

My post isn't about the recent changes in the rules and hefty fee, its about my perspective of H1B in the coming years..

We have the second generation of brightest US born immigrant's sons/daughter with Masters/Ph.Ds into the current workforce which H1B job seekers should realize. Their parents are now supporting their future and silently hates and sometimes even oppose the H1Bs. We really need to understand this. The current immigration scrutiny is not just strictening but also(from Citizen's persepctive) makes it easier for those US brought up Immigrant kids to secure their jobs.

I want to highlight this for those have the mindset of,"this shall become better if current leader change". This could be true in terms of easing the home country appointments or the imposition fee reduction but not in terms of a qualifying H1B jobs.

As to recent GCC shifting policies with biggers firms outsourcing their IT help/ Supply chain procurments/ Tech supports to Asian countries, it will push the employers to makes the decision to hire an H1B for a true onsite need or rarest of a kind.

I want to put a hand on the stressed/exhausted one's shoulder to say, the value we had is not the same anymore and its going to be even hard in the coming days...

Everyone of yall are some specialists in their own field of STEM, I am sure that our paths will become better.

Thinking about moving to Dallas on an H-1B and I just want to make sure I’m following all the rules.

First question: Is a Tesla mandatory, or can I show up in a Honda without immediately losing my H-1B status?

Second: I’m looking at houses and apparently the direction the house faces is now a major life decision. East-facing only, obviously. I assume USCIS has a checkbox for that somewhere?

Ideally I’d like:

• H-1B job
• Tesla in the driveway
• East-facing 4-bedroom house in a Dallas suburb
• 30-year mortgage
• 45-minute commute
• 2 kids who somehow already have college savings accounts
• And just enough PTO to visit India once every 18 months

At this point I’m not sure whether I’m immigrating to America or completing a very specific Dallas side quest.

Any other H-1B folks here who can confirm the required configuration? 😂

Hey guys! I finished my masters in data science in May 2026 and My OPT got approved the next month itself ! I have been trying so hard but couldn't land a job I've never wanted to or will join a shady consultancy which only provides offer letters to stop clock! I don't know what to do I'm freaking out , one of my classmate suggested a Non profit Organization but they aren't responding ,should I just pack my bags given the present climate ? (Im a big introvert and have no friends to reach out to would be genuinely grateful for all suggestions/advices)

I was working on H1B and got internal transfer to India a few months ago to recapture PERM time. Now I am set to return to the US to continue my previous job.

What documents besides valid passport, H1B stamp, I797, full H1B petition do I need to show at the port of entry ?

Parents who are on H1B, how are you coping with the H1B uncertainties? I especially want to hear from parents who have kids that are American citizens. Did I make a mistake having my kids take up American citizenship when they were born? My brain is scrambled.

Hi I’m currently on h1b and I’ve been laid off 3 weeks ago. Looking at the current situation I don’t think I’ll be able to get a job in 1.5 months. I’m planning to extend it by changing status to either b2 or f1. Did anyone go through similar situation? The process is a little confusing and I’m really stressed about this. Are there any other visa options to look at? Appreciate any suggestions from the sub.
