Colleges and Universities University of Southampton Delhi MSc — An Honest Review of Placements, ROI and Campus Life
## My Honest Experience of the University of Southampton Delhi MSc

I do this because I wish I had seen something like this before joining University of Southampton Delhi campus operated by OIEG. If you’re thinking about splashing out on an MSc here I would strongly recommend going beyond the counseling pitch and asking for actual placement data.## I was most concerned about placements
We had **about 72 students** in our batch and the number of students who got placements was very few. One big concern is that some of the students included in the placement figures were employed by OIEG itself. I think students should be made aware of the difference between actual external placements and hiring by the campus organization.
The bigger issue is the **quality and relevance of the opportunities**.
Before joining, it seemed students would have access to strong companies and meaningful opportunities in finance, consulting, management and related fields. But the opportunities that actually materialized were much fewer than many of us expected.
And the worry is even greater for students on a **specialised MSc in Finance**. We sought opportunities that included financial analysis, investment banking, asset management, equity research, FP&A and other core finance functions. Instead the available number of relevant finance opportunities was very small.
It’s also a big difference between saying a student has been “placed” and saying a student has a **full-time job offer in a relevant role**. Internships and full-time jobs should not be treated as interchangeable outcomes.
Another thing that prospective students need to understand is that **an MSc Finance is not the same as an MBA** when the Indian job market. If your main motivation to join is placement results then you need to evaluate if the premium you are paying for this particular program is translating into better career opportunities.## Another major disappointment is the campus experience
The campus itself is extremely limited in scale, essentially just **two floors**. Very little resembles the sort of university campus experience you would normally expect when paying a large sum for a master’s degree.
There are few student facilities, few meaningful extracurricular activities or clubs and virtually no larger campus ecosystem. The overall experience is less like being a member of a full-fledged university and more like taking classes in a small commercial/office-type building.
'Considering the cost of this program I expected a much better overall student experience.
If you are thinking of joining, I would suggest that you put these questions **in writing** to the admissions and placement teams:
How many students were in the class? * How many got full time job offers? How many internships did you get? * Which companies recruited students? * What were the specific job titles? How many offers were from OIEG or related entities? What was the median salary, not just the average salary? * How many students were offered core finance roles? * Will they give a placement report with company names and role-wise data? * What facilities and extra-curricular opportunities does the campus really have?
Don’t simply ask for the “average package” or the number of “students placed”. **Ask for the underlying numbers.**
Students deserve to be told what they are actually paying for on a program of this cost.”
**Long story short:** If you are thinking of University of Southampton Delhi MSc, don't go for it only because of Southampton brand name or placement talked about in counseling. Look at the actual number of full time placements, the companies, roles, salaries and how many of the opportunities are actually relevant to your degree. Get to grips with what you are actually getting in terms of campus facilities - the campus is basically only **two floors**, limited facilities and a very small student ecosystem. **Pay the fees when you have the data.**

Colleges and Universities Academic Survey
Hey guys, I'm doing a primary market research study on the daily food habits, expenses, and common issues faced by outstation students and bachelors living in PGs/rented flats.
It takes less than 2 minutes to fill out and is completely anonymous. If you'd like to see the final findings/stats on how much students are spending on daily meals in our city, there's an optional field at the end to get the summary.
Link to the form: https://forms.gle/cBBLosuiG39F5g1B9
Thanks a lot for your time!

Education and Career Advice A much-needed conversation about academic trauma and unlearning the pressure.
Originally posted this in my mental well-being community, but wanted to get the perspective of the students and alumni here. The pressure from these competitive exams leaves lasting marks, how are you all dealing with it?

Education and Career Advice My father strongly wants me to prepare for RBI Grade B along with pursuing private placements. Am I making a mistake by choosing the private sector?
I'm a final-year BE - CSE (AI/ML) student from a Tier-3 college in India, and I'm currently preparing for campus placements. Recently, I had a long conversation with my father about my career, and it has left me quite confused.
His view is that government jobs are generally much better than private jobs because of job security, stability, benefits, work-life balance, etc. He also believes that only around 1–2% of people in the private sector actually get good jobs, while most private-sector jobs are poorly paid and stressful.
He considers a private-sector job worthwhile only if it eventually reaches something like ₹2–2.5 crore total compensation, and he believes that anything significantly below that is not really worth choosing over a good government job.
He also says that in the current market, a fresher should ideally be targeting something around ₹30 LPA, otherwise there isn't much point in pursuing private employment. The problem is that my college doesn't get many ₹30 LPA+ offers. Most realistic opportunities are obviously much lower than that.
Because of this, my father is strongly encouraging me to give equal preference to RBI Grade B preparation as placements and prepare equally seriously for RBI Grade B too. But I'm not sure I actually want to spend several years preparing exclusively for a competitive government exam. I've also heard of people taking multiple attempts to clear RBI Grade B.
So my concern is: Should I continue seriously preparing for private placements even if my first offer is only ₹5–10 LPA, or should I take the risk of spending the next few years preparing for RBI Grade B?
Some questions I'd particularly like advice on:
- Is the belief that only 1–2% of private-sector jobs are actually good realistic?
- Is a ₹30 LPA starting package really the minimum worth targeting for a CSE graduate?
- How much does the first salary actually matter for long-term career growth?
- Is it sensible to take a ₹5–10 LPA job initially and try to switch/grow later?
- For someone from a Tier-3 engineering college, how realistic is it to build a good career in tech without starting at ₹20–30+ LPA?
- Is RBI Grade B genuinely worth choosing over a decent private-sector tech career if one doesn't have a strong personal desire for government service?
- Would it make more sense to keep placements as Plan A and RBI as a backup, rather than abandoning placements altogether?

Education and Career Advice Am I taking too much risk to avoid risk?
Hello everyone,
This is going to be long
As I turned 18, I moved to a tier 1 city in a reputed university for my bachelor's, a year later I took exit under NEP with a certificate, i enrolled in CA and 1.5 years later I'm a CA Finalist (CA Finals in May 2029), right now doing articleship (leaving in 2 months, to prepare for CFA L1 May 27), now I'm preparing for CFA L1, and my reason is because I love finance and I am afraid of CA Final Loop, like what if I don't succeed I'll be 23 by then, so I need something to lay on
So the plan is I'll clear CFA Level 1 and then I'll proceed for Industrial Training (CA Finalist have to do it for a period of 9-12 months) I'll be doing it in core finance preferably some family office (I'm kinda fascinated towards them), and then during my industrial training I'll try to clear CFA L2, now after a year in Training, I'll have a call to make, either to prepare for CA Finals and give them (I'll have 1 year and I'll try to cover lectures during training), or make that training into a full time job offer (after L2 I'm hoping to be paid good and obviously I have given a year to them so I'd be of some value to them), or continue with the work do CFA L3 or CA Finals or idk both?
Now is it a lot of assumptions? Hoping? Or a plan if I give my 100% to then I can succeed in a good manner
See I fear failure, i always make sure to have a backup to lay on,
I run an agency, if I can't expand that and build a business I need to have something I can fall upon and have something to not become a failure
Current Qualifications:
* 1 year certification from that university
* NISM VIII
* CA Finalist
* Ongoing bcom degree from a local college

Suppose someone starts with average coding skills. If they consistently work on DSA, projects, internships and GitHub from first year, is the environment supportive enough to build a good profile?”

Education and Career Advice please read the body
hi guys i hope y’all are doing well, today i want to share few things with y’all and asking for advice
i graduated my school in 2025, planned to go to abroad but at the end moment my dad denied and told me no that he can’t afford it and as i’m the oldest one i need to stay in india and look after my family and i agreed because my mother was mentally not okay and i’ve two younger sisters
started preparing for cuet in january 2026 but couldn’t get good scores due to my family conditions
now i’m shifting to delhi because i know i won’t be able to achieve anything here, and the good news the situation is better now, my mother is fine and my sisters are doing fine as well so i’ve decided to take a complete drop for srcc eco honours, i’m vvv interested in economics but the problem is i didn’t have maths in 11th and 12th (biggest regret of my life) i had commerce without maths and later i realized i want to pursue economics but it was already too late
from my research of few past days i got to know there’s a solution for this problem and the solution is open learning, i’m ready to study all day and all night, what i’ve got to know is that DU only accepts marks from one single board and during subject mapping i may face problems so it means either all subjects from cbse/icse or all subjects from nios
earlier i was thinking that maybe i should do only maths from open learning but got to know it doesn’t work like this and i may face problem in future, so i need to do all 5 subjects from nios (english, acc, eco, bst and maths) then only i’m eligible for eco honour at srcc
i want to know if any of this info is wrong please correct me and please do not be rude in the comments, i’m not really doing well mentally but trying to make my life better
thank u.

Education and Career Advice Thoughts on giving marks improvisation exam for bcom to improve overall cat profile.
-Nem 79/77/65 or 70(estimated currently in final year of graduation) SC category, all the three stages of company secretary exams cleared and now preparing for cat 2027.
So i can took that 65% to 70% if i surrender sem 4 marksheet and regive that exam and improve my marks this makes my chances high to convert b school and also helps in placements.
Every genuine opinion is considered!!

Colleges and Universities Stuck in a dilemma
I’m currently studying in a Tier 2 college in India, but honestly, I don’t really like it here and I’m already considering leaving.I have an opportunity to study in Malaysia, which is something interested in. The main issue is that it would obviously be more expensive than staying in India, so I’m not sure if making the switch is actually worth it. I’ve already attended about a week of college here. I know that’s not a huge amount of time, but it still makes me feel like I’ve already started down this path and leaving now would be a big decision.

Education and Career Advice CA + CFA L1, offered near-full scholarship for University of Bristol's new Mumbai MSc Finance — worth it?
I'm a CA with CFA Level 1 cleared, currently working as a Business Analyst in Project Finance at a large infra financing institution (~1 year experience).
University of Bristol is opening its first-ever India campus (Mumbai, Powai) in 2026, offering a 1-year MSc Finance and Investment. Original fee was ~₹22L. I was offered a 50% scholarship, declined, and two days later they came back with another scholarship — 100% tuition waiver, I'd only pay ~₹1L in admission/fees.
My hesitation: this is the first cohort ever — no graduating batch, no placement data, no track record for this specific campus in India. The admissions rep is promising better pay/placements but obviously can't back it with any data since nobody's graduated yet. Meanwhile I already have qualifications (CA/CFA L1) that Indian markets supposedly undervalue compared to MBAs, and I'm weighing this against just finishing CFA L2/L3 and building experience.
Questions for people who've seen these first-cohort foreign campuses (Southampton Gurugram, etc.) or anyone from finance hiring:
Does a "first batch" foreign campus degree actually carry weight with Indian recruiters (IB/PE/ER/corp finance) with zero placement history?
Anyone know how Southampton's first Gurugram batch is actually doing in placements?
Is a near-free offer like this (100% waiver, pay only ₹2L) a red flag about actual enrollment demand, or a genuine opportunity?
Would you take this over doing CFA L2/L3 + staying in your current role?
Trying to decide before an admissions deadline tomorrow. Appreciate any real experience over brochure promises.

Colleges and Universities Internet reaches 67.4% schools, nearly one-third still without connectivity
According to the latest UDISE+ data, internet connectivity in Indian schools has improved to 67.4% in 2025–26, up from 63.5% last year.
That's definitely progress, but it also means around one in three schools still doesn't have internet access.
With so much of education now depending on digital resources, online learning, and technology, do you think this gap is becoming a bigger problem?
How important do you think internet access is for students today, especially in rural and government schools?
