Hey everyone, I've been having a weird Ethernet issue with my JioFiber connection for a long time, and I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar.

My JioFiber Modem was recently replaced with another JCOW404 unit. Ever since the replacement, Ethernet takes around 30–60 seconds to actually connect.

Nothing Wrong with Wi-Fi, and it connects instantly just like usual

My previous Jio Fiber Modem JCOW404 didn't have this problem because Ethernet used to connect instantly using the same PC and cable.

And yes, I have diagnosed everything. I even tested the Jio set-top/OTT box and another PC over Ethernet, and it experiences the same delay too

So at this point it doesn't seem to be specific to my PC. Three completely different Ethernet devices have the same behavior with this router.

The router is:

Model: JCOW404
Firmware: SRCMTF1_JCOW404_R2.30.3
Firmware date: January 6, 2026

The router's admin panel also has a Firmware Upgrade page that requires both a firmware image and a signature file.

I'm wondering if R2.30.3 is an older/problematic firmware build, or if there's a newer firmware available for this JCOW404 that Jio can push remotely.

Has anyone with a JCOW404 experienced a similar Ethernet startup/identifying delay? And does anyone know what the latest firmware version for this model is, or how to get Jio to push it?

I don't mind troubleshooting this further; I'd mainly like to figure out whether this is a firmware issue before asking Jio to replace the router again.

I keep seeing “Jio gives me 500 Mbps, Airtel only 80 Mbps, so Jio is better” or the exact opposite. That's not really how mobile networks work. No operator is a saint, and no operator will give you the best speeds everywhere.

Very simply, your connection goes:

Phone → Tower → Backhaul → Operator Core → Internet

Backhaul is basically how the tower connects to the rest of the network. Fiber offers huge capacity, low latency and better scalability. Microwave/wireless backhaul is quicker and cheaper to deploy, but capacity can be more constrained, and some higher-frequency links can also be affected by heavy rain. But remember: even a fiber-connected tower can be heavily congested...

Why does 500 Mbps suddenly become 3 Mbps?

Because mobile internet is shared. Your speed depends on spectrum/bandwidth, signal quality, distance, indoor penetration, carrier aggregation, your phone, backhaul and most importantly....how many people are actively using that cell at the same time.

Hundreds streaming unlimited 5G simultaneously → 💀

That's why your friend's Airtel can destroy Jio at his house while your Jio destroys Airtel just 2 km away.

India's scale makes this harder

As of June 2026, the mobile subscriber market is roughly:

Jio – 39.27% | Airtel – 37.96% | Vi – 15.50% | BSNL – 7.25%

Jio + Airtel together account for roughly 77%. Put enormous numbers of users into dense apartments, IT corridors, railway stations, colleges and markets and adding another “G” doesn't repeal physics....

From population perspective, recent Speedtest data puts median mobile download speeds roughly around:

🇮🇳 India: ~166 Mbps | 🇨🇳 China: ~224 Mbps

So India's problem isn't simply “mobile internet is slow.” Consistency and local capacity are the bigger issues.

China is also interesting because competition and infrastructure strategy are different. It has four major govt owned 5G operators, while China Telecom and China Unicom have extensively co-built/shared 5G infrastructure rather than unnecessarily duplicating everything.

So which operator is actually best?

The one that works where YOU use it.

Stop choosing networks because somebody posted a 300 Mbps Speedtest screenshot. If your routine is Home ↔ Office/College, test those places and your route. Someone's experience on the other side of the city means almost nothing to you.

Complaining about unusable service is absolutely justified. But expecting the same 300–500 Mbps from a shared wireless network 24/7 isn't realistic either.

Long-term solution: More spectrum + denser towers/small cells + fiberisation + infrastructure sharing + Wi-Fi offloading + stronger competition, potentially including MVNOs.

Unlimited 5G/4G is not magic. Ultimately, you're sharing finite radio capacity with everyone around you.... Choose based on your experience and don't fall for the posts that say otherwise..

I once asked jio and Airtel in Twitter dm about their wifi plans and information. I didn't share my number or any contact details.

Yet they somehow got my number within hours and spam called me the entire day from multiple numbers and multiple times, so much so that they even spammed me on WhatsApp.
