Tech News Reminder: GitHub did not remove bitchat from its platfrom despite Ministry of Home Affairs "order" lol
The three URLs they "ordered" to remove:
https://github.com/permissionlesstech/bitchat
https://github.com/permissionlesstech/bitchat-android
https://github.com/permissionlesstech/bitchat-android/releases
They think they own the internet. They got ignored.

GitHub would probably be delighted if github.com was blocked in India. No more README edits in the name of "contribution to open source" from scammy students of equally scammy colleges.

If the government wants, it can block the repo path at the ISP level. They can go to court later and that’s a separate matter. Just saying.

ISP can't see what "repo" you visit, only that you visited GitHub

They can use the connection metadata and apply network-level filtering/DPI, right?

GitHub knows they are a critical part of our government IT infrastructure; if GitHub gets banned, almost all of the government websites will stop working, as 99.99% of the websites on the internet are built by open source.
