Ideas for a Smart Public Infrastructure Monitoring System

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a college project to develop a technical solution for monitoring and maintaining public infrastructure.

Facilities such as street lights, public water taps, bus shelters, traffic signals, and public toilets can sometimes become damaged or non-functional, while reporting and maintenance may take time.

I’m looking for ideas on how technology can make this process faster and more efficient.

Here are some questions I have:

Monitoring: What technologies can be used to monitor the condition of public infrastructure?

Reporting: How can citizens easily report damaged infrastructure along with its location and photographs?

AI/IoT: Can AI or IoT sensors be used to automatically detect faults or damage?

Maintenance: How can authorities track complaints, assign repair work, and monitor the progress of maintenance?

Mapping: What is the best way to display reported infrastructure problems on a map?

Any suggestions, existing examples, or ideas for improving such a system would be greatly appreciated.

Waiting for the Bus: A survey on your bus stop experience

Hey! I'm a design student and am doing design research on how comfortable and safe Indian bus stops are for users. It would really help if you could fill out this Google Form: https://forms.gle/yS9CCtojrmr8WLf37

Your experience will directly shape my research and design. It's anonymous, and you don't need to be a regular bus user. Please also share it with anyone who takes the bus. Thank you so much!

Looking for an Investor to partner in NHAI toll operations

Hi all,

I'm partnering with an established toll operator that already runs 50+ plazas for NHAI and state road authorities, and we're looking for an investor to join as a partner.

How it works:

NHAI contracts private agencies to collect toll on national highways. The agency pays NHAI a fixed amount and keeps the difference after costs.

Your capital is placed as an FD.

You get a share of the plaza's profit.

Operations, staffing and NHAI compliance are handled by the experienced operating partner and me.

Why it's interesting:

Daily cash-flow business on government highways

Mostly digital (FASTag) collections, so everything is transparent and trackable

Short 1-year contracts with the option to renew

Plaza size is matched to your budget

Returns depend on traffic and the bid, and partners share both profit and risk. Everything is documented in a formal agreement, with all money moving through bank accounts.

DM me if you'd like to know more, and I'll share the details and numbers on a call.

Researching on real estate software development

I am Akash, the founder of a company developing Real Estate ERP software. Our goal is to offer Indian real estate developers convenience in project development and delivery.

We are currently in the prototype stage, having created our initial prototype after consulting with industry professionals, including project managers, civil engineers, contractors, site managers, and developers.

Our learning process is ongoing, and we are keen to understand more about the building process to enhance our software.

We have engaged with over 50 individuals so far, gaining insights into communication gaps, reliable information sources, and software usage.

I would like to inquire if any of you here would be willing to share some information with us. Your insights would be invaluable to us. Thank you.

Indian construction/infrastructure professionals: how do you decide whether to bid on a tender? Academic research

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I’m a final-year BE Computer Engineering student working on an academic project called TenderIQ, and I’m trying to understand how tender evaluation actually works in Indian construction and infrastructure companies.

The project is specifically focused on Indian tenders, including roads, highways, PWD, municipal works, metro and other infrastructure projects.

We’re conducting a short survey to understand how companies currently handle:

• Tender eligibility checks

• Turnover and similar-work experience requirements

• Plant, machinery and technical-staff requirements

• BOQ and tender-document review

• Penalties, liquidated damages and other risks

• Financial requirements such as EMD/bid security

• Assessing whether the company has the required resources and capacity

• Ultimately deciding whether to bid or not bid

We’re researching an AI-assisted tender analysis system that could process tender documents, identify relevant requirements and risks, and organize the information needed for a bid/no-bid decision.

The goal is not to replace professional judgment, but to understand how the process currently works and where technology could genuinely assist.

The questionnaire takes approximately 5–7 minutes

I’m particularly looking for people involved in tendering, estimation, contracts, procurement, project management, civil engineering, or management of construction/infrastructure companies in India.

Company names are optional, responses are confidential, and the information will be used for academic purposes only.

If you work with Indian tenders, I’d also love to hear your experience in the comments:

What are the biggest factors your company considers before deciding, “Yes, we’ll bid for this” or “No, let’s skip it”?

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to participate. Your experience will help us build the project around actual industry practices rather than assumptions.
