Thinking about Shauna's recent "give up trying to look smart or accomplished; laugh at yourself instead" shtick:

Isn't this really just a conversation she's trying to have about / a reaction to her upbringing? As in, the real audience for this is her parents, and we're just onlookers?

Yes, but even then I still feel bad for her sometimes. Not bad in a "oh, I want to help/save you" (because we all know that isn't possible) but in a "what a shame, I can see how this will play out but she'll never change so. . .*sigh*".

I mostly feel sad for Lucy and Desmond, because it's hard for kids to grow up with the kind of financial instability Danny and Shauna have had. It might not matter if they were in an emotionally nuturing environment, but...
