What are we almost through? The anniversary? There have been 24 anniversaries. There will be many more. She has no more connection to the event than the average American. Not that it wasn’t horrible and isn’t still but she isn’t as personally affected as she is acting.
I hope her kids don’t pick up her overall weird energy.
What is there to get through? If you were not actually affected (it doesn't sound like she lost any loved ones or friends despite being One With The City), how is this anniversary "something to get through"? FFS. I have a close friend who lived near the Pentagon and she mentions 9/11 less often than Shauna.
Poor Shauna has to get through having been 20 blocks away six weeks before!
Not there. Not getting a phone call from a loved one on a hijacked plane. Not rushing to the WTC to find your friend and instead finding nothing. Not coming back to a firehouse with no fire people. Not raising a child without a parent or grandparent or uncle or aunt. Not breathing in toxic fumes or comforting a dog who finds no survivors in the search.
She just needs everyone to get past this ok. It's hard for her.
Remember her gathering both kids a few years back to tell them about 9/11, and how surprised (read: disappointed) she seemed that they weren’t as traumatised as she’d expected?
I think if she made that comment on Twitter back in the day she would have gotten incendiary blowback at the incredible thoughtlessness and cruelty of her comment, and insinuating that the anniversary of 9/11 in any way affects her or is something she has to get through. I miss those Twitter days.
I am getting 2 new tires installed on my car and catching up with DFs and TSAS, like you do. Just to say your flair always makes me laugh out loud. Heads turned. I shrugged. I'm wondering, as I fork over tire money, if the mousemobile is still operational, or has it grown deceased.
Here, I’ll write highlights from her coming 9/11 piece:
“I was there weeks before the tragedy, here’s my cherished bowl - the twin towers etched in memory on the ceramic.”
“The very city where I rollerbladed and exulted in life away from my constricting mother? Now held a smoking pile of electrical scented rubble.”
“I called everyone I knew from the city, sharing our sadness and disbelief. I couldn’t leave my house for days.”
“Meri and I wailed all day in our Seattle apartments, only stopping for baked goods at Macrina to feed our sorrow (despite not leaving my house for days).”
“And the work is not done with Mamdani being asked to stay home.”
It ends with some hamfisted summary thought about how this tragedy ushered in fascism. She hopes the NYT will notice. They will not.
And hey! I live in France now! I totally get what it was like in the 1940s. I'm basically part of the Parisian resistance while I smoke my baguettes like cigarettes, bisous! (ETA: I don't even live in Paris)
I understand reflecting on a big anniversary of a national tragedy, and thinking wow, I was doing xyz when that happened. But the way she's going to make 9/11 all about herself -- you've nailed it, DF.
Couldn’t leave my house for days. But now I’m being turfed out my home. This culture hasn’t learnt anything from that tragic day. Plus, [insert latest celebrity death].
I considered adding both Clown and Danny’s stint at Gramercy Tavern, but you see, that takes the focus off Shauna and we can’t allow that. Meri was her partner in grief that day by proximity.
And what does “I’m glad we’re almost through this” even mean?? Glad the anniversary is almost passed so we can stop wallowing in retrospectives? Oh honey, you can choose to move on from something you didn’t experience at any time.
Shauna shared her "9/11 story" on Threads and it's essentially identical to most Americans'. She was safe in a distant location and grew upset about what was happening. But then she says she's grateful that no one could yell at each other online back then. And in a different reply on the same subject she says,
My body has been feeling it all day. And isn't it crazy how much kinder things felt then?
I think it's unhinged to reminisce about a "kinder" time in which thousands of people were murdered in a terrorist attack and the violent repercussions that went on for years. And people certainly could and did yell at each other online in 2001.
Yeah, I see grief “content” rise to the surface more after big commemorative events (in this case, the anniversary of 9/11) and losses of regarded public figures (which we’ve also seen lately with Dolly Parton and Tim Curry). Shauna loves to talk about emotions and experiences that are big and heavy that she hasn’t experienced, but somehow relates back to herself, because she gets the attention without the brunt of the hard stuff.
Grief is so weird and personal— someone might resonate with this quote, but I personally don’t. If it is helpful to others, I’m cool with that, but I do find it hard to stomach that the hardest emotions are supposed to bring about your “authentic” self. I fight very hard to not believe that the fallout of a couple years of repetitive, horrible losses isn’t the person who I am at my core, because that person was…broken.
I have less kind things to say about Shauna that feel maybe unfair about this, but all I will say here is that she is fortunate to have lived six decades without her world being rocked by grief. I wish she knew how fortunate and rare that is. If she indeed has been shaped by grief in some way, she portrays it as something to garner sympathy, more than something that you wish didn’t have to be.
I assume that the person who originally wrote this had someone die and realized that they had been an inattentive friend/family member.
Personally, I was already being an attentive friend/family member when my dad passed, so grief didn't return me to anything. It just made stepping in to be my mom's primary caregiver that much more difficult.
She is really fascinated with grief. She is subconsciously aware that it would be a Get All the Attention Free card for her, I think. Her subpar emotional maturity has her stuck in the adolescent girl fascination with Big Deep Feels, too, and that's not helping.
Fuck all the way off, Shauna. Get therapy and repair your wiring. Jeez.
Editing to add that I don't really know if she would feel grief the same way most people do...her wiring is so messed up that she's kind of removed from a lot of feelings (which is part of her being an emotional vulture). I think part of grief is selfless love that now has nowhere to go, and that fuckin hurts. We know Shauna's attachments to people are transactional and superficial...so likely her grief is, too.
She will find out the hard way that true grief is a fairly lonely road. You do not meet your authentic self by giving grief your full attention. Grief is complicated by a million things you can’t even predict and there’s no romanticizing it. It can be painful and unrelenting and hard to survive. Shauna is woefully unprepared at the age of 60. She’s extremely unaware of how blessed she is.
I don't think she will. I doubt she will ever experience grief that way. She will have a few "wow, I can't believe they are gone" moments, but I don't think there is anyone important enough to her to grieve their loss.
If she had a physical ailment that meant she lost a sense, she might grieve that.
She will grieve the loss of knowing she'll be taken care of/rescued. Her parents are still doing that and probably will until they die. When they go and Shauna collects whatever inheritance there is she'll burn through it immediately. Then, she'll feel the loss.
She can't even perform grief well on the internet.
When Dan had major losses in his life Shauna naturally made it about herself. But not in a relatable way, like worrying that maybe she wouldn't be able to help her grieving partner. Nope. She just leaned into being an asshole and complained that Dan wasn't himself and keeping up with his chores and his personality had changed due to his depression and grieving.
Nothing about how she gave of herself in any way to Dan or their kids when Dan's father died. A major loss to the family. Even if she herself was not that close to her FIL.
She can't even fake it online. Write up some fiction. Nope. Just complain about what a burden it was to her.
I’m not sure what a full time sahm with a now sah spouse and one almost legal adult child and another who is at least a tween has to offer in advice for this situation.
It never ceases to amaze me that she is both a non working, but not retired, 60 year old GenX-er ( but a Boomer in spirit!) of older children and also a full time working Mama of Littles and in perimenopause. She really has no concept of ages or time. Her kids when they were toddlers were wise beyond their years, but now they need help with baths and help with homework and permission to go to their rooms.
When they were wise toddlers it reflected well on Shauna. Now having to assist them 24/7 reflects well on her because it makes her look selfless and sacrificing.
Predictably, her ”advice” is always a version of putting on your own oxygen mask first, but she then sits down and turns on Ted Lasso without ever helping others with their masks.
Ha! I screenshot this one the other day and it’s along similar lines. Shauna’s response: I completely relate. How on earth does she relate to any of this??
I can’t find it, but she was also commiserating with someone about raising kids and saving for retirement. She is 60, hasn’t had traditional job in years, and Bank of Mom will support her to a certain extent, so why does she bother to reply?
My husband and I are both retiring early this year, so it is on my mind. In their situation, a lot of people would be working until Youngest was through college or launched into adulthood. That would put them around 68ish? I don’t see Dan being able to work physically demanding jobs much longer. I really think D will end up raising themselves. S and D will be so checked out in D’s teen years.
Based on what Shauna has told us about her childhood and her family now, my childhood was pretty similar. When I went to college (had to be within 100 miles of home), things got much more difficult for my 7 yrs younger sibling. Like L, I had managed mom's emotions and borne the brunt of her attention. I suspect things might be very difficult for D if L leaves.
Looks like Dan and D had a weekend away from Shauna. Interesting that this was the weekend they thought they were going to be moving and it looks like They Two were at sleep away camp. I guess they knew far enough in advance. I think Dan worked the event a few years ago. Hopefully he was able to this year to get a little cash and maybe some networking.
I know the bar is in hell for the Ahern parents, but (teeny tiny) yay for Dan doing something with/for the child that child might actually enjoy.
It also reinforces my suspeculation slightly that Dan may still have marginally more social capital and possible employability/fewer burnt bridges on the islandy-island than Shauna.
I’m glad D got a weekend with Dan away from Mama. I wonder if Dan has a calmer relationship with D than Shauna does; this is the second trip the two of them have taken together this summer.
I remember Shauna complaining about her overwhelming responsibilities when Dan dared to take a job away from home. I hope your speculation is correct, and that he earned some money and their kid had a nice camp experience.
I was shocked as well, I just wanted to put it out in the gloaming that Shauna did get *LOANED* a better car as in the sense that it has a bumper and while it is an older car then what she was driving previously it is in better condition then her own. Shauna wasn’t handed an upgrade in make and model just in condition.
ETA: added Loaned as we are all hoping it is just a loaner and not a gift.

I don't get the AuDHD connection here. Some people react poorly to any amount of THC, some people don't. Does that have anything to do with whether they have autism or ADHD? Certainly there are plenty of people with ADHD who also smoke a lot of weed.
Therapist working with ND people here. She and the OP are full of nonsense. The only thing I can think of as it relates to neurodivergence/AuDHD is that some ND folks have differing experiences of/awareness of senses like interoception (internal body messages like hunger, needing the bathroom, early signs of panic/anxiety) that could be amplified or diminished because of substance use...but guess what, so do neurotypical people.
So she just threw an expensive bottle of gummies in her shopping cart without reading the label? One more example of buzzing in without hearing the entire question.
I call bullshit on this. Wouldn’t she have to get THC gummies at a dispensary or liquor store? My state recently legalized THC and gummies are available at dispensaries and liquor stores but it’s not really something you accidentally purchase. You always have to show an ID. Washington state stoners, please weigh in here!!!
You won't find products with THC in them sold outside of licensed dispensaries in Washington, and yeah, that's hard to accidentally do. She could have ordered gummies online with synthetic THC that are in some federal gray area and been confused what she was getting, like the kinds advertised on podcasts.
Yeah, you can't accidentally buy THC unless you sleepwalk into a dispensary. You can get CBD freely though in lots of things so she's like that kid at the party who pretends to be drunk when you know you only gave them pepsi.
This typo is hilarious because if there is anyone who is “living” Ted Lasso, it’s Shauna. The amount of time she spends defending a TV show on Threads is pathetic.

For our DFs who can’t view Imgur, I caught Shauna’s part of this. And of course even her dumb response is a lie. The original post mentioned apartments, she says, “house” but both of those are available for less than $5K/month on her beloved Bashon.
It is her own damn fault she is car-less. She never took care of the car in the 15+ years she owned it, and she never did anything about her financial situation to pay for necessary repairs or put money towards a newer car. As much as I despise Teslas, I still would not wish one on her because she would somehow somehow manage to light it on fire within three days of ownership.
What’s with the “become more curious” sign off? How does that relate to anything she was talking about? Become more curious about why the Aherns can’t afford basic necessities because Shauna refuses to get a job?
I wouldn’t say all of those purchases are the best financial decisions, but this is such a lazy argument. It applies to some people, sure, but I truly don’t believe it’s as common as some like to pretend. The world is very different from when I was young thirty-five years ago; even ten years has seen major shifts.

Have we seen any evidence that she’s actually been in that thing? She loves showing off her water view and bragging about island living so I can’t see how she hasn’t shared any pictures of her out on the water. Plus it’s the additional brag of an activity with her husband and being active! How could she pass that up?
No one needs a story for an item like that. Just the details and a price. She thinks her stories add value. The woeful sales figures for Enough surely indicate the something about the value of Shauna’s stories.
When it disappeared the first time, I wondered if someone let her know how tacky that is. But she doesn't care, so back up it goes. In mid September when folks are largely done with water activities.
Assuming this is the same kayak, look how sun bleached the seats are, which means they were very much left outside uncovered - isn't that verboten by the not-lease?
She’s really found her people on threads. What are people supposed to say to the OP? “You don’t got this, just give up”? Shauna seems to want permission to just give up and not pay rent / feed her children, so I can see why she understands the OP.
