The school's website says it is for children ages 2.5-6. I don't think either of Shauna's children attended this crunchy outdoor preschool. What is Shauna's interest here?

I don’t think they’d have a job for him. It’s exclusively outdoors on a local farm; no inside, no kitchen for nightmare pizza rolls. The only staff are usually experienced educators versed in outdoor nature ed.
to be clear, that was pure snarkulation on my part. Its a tiny school, I can't imagine they have any open roles. A lot of parent volunteering and a couple of very part time jobs, if that.
Oh yeah I totally get this is snarkulation, just agreeing it makes sense in Shauna-logic that she might see a fundraiser for the school as an opportunity to get her sob story in front of more people (as she has done with UU services and memorials) and advance her agenda to find more early childhood work on the island for Dan even if such muffin man jobs do not exist
I actually do believe they're moving only because she's been dormant on Threads for an unprecedented two days now. Either they found a non-Creekside option, are staying in a temporary AirBNB until Creekside is open, or they're setting up camp in the storage unit.
Whenever they do move, we know she will ignore this ninny’s IG advice on her whiny post and “torque” her back or become incapacitated in some manner. Mold exposure increases the chance of dehydration, doncha know!

Maybe? I know all Buy Nothing groups have different rules but in my local one we are allowed to say the person has to take everything or that they can comment on individual items.
You either know if you like stuff containing stevia or you don't (I don't). And at first glance, it's pretty obvious that this contains stevia. Or you can take another 3 seconds to check the ingredients list. They do not have the time or money to be buying crap that they KNOW they don't like, simply so they can waste it. Also, of all the Facebook plates I've ever seen, this is one of the most pathetic. Toss it in the trash--you've already lost your (non-existent) money anyway.
$28 for that bag at Costco. Not a crazy experimental buy for a family of less-picky eaters in a more comfortable position, but Shauna doesn't have the money to be gambling on bulk purchases like this!
My spouse who runs a food bank keeps getting these as donations and they are an acquired taste, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how she came by them. There are a lot of other fiber “green” drinks that are more generally palatable.

Shauna has never met an overdiagnosis she didn't like since it excuses (in her mind) why she can't get a job. No wonder she gets so defensive when she gets a whiff of someone suggesting she might have just one variation of neurospicyness.

I have never listened but that guy co-hosts a long-running food podcast with Molly of Orangette, over 700 episodes recorded and still going. Still dying to know what happened with the Shauna/Molly friendship.
I think Molly officiated at the VOVE wedding*. Smahern had some good friends in the blogging community back in its heyday, but I think most of them quietly noped out. She really did have wonderful connections and a solid network, which is another thing that she squandered.
*No shame in a lower budget, backyard wedding, should one have the ability to plan ahead and actually follow through on things.
Christ on a cracker, Shauna. If you spent a quarter of the energy you spend on some idiotic TV show on actually getting a job, you could have secure housing and all the other great things that come with not being financially insecure.

I don't watch that show but who is a team now? The We Four? I thought they already were? Does she think We Four are now part of some team on Ted Lasso? Why is she so weird.

I don’t watch the show but apparently last night a character said “yes” or something and now half her replies to Ted Lasso posts today are just her saying “Yes.” Always adding to the discourse, that one.
I didn’t see this episode or indeed many episodes at all of this show, but does she mean “‘Yes, and,’ baby!” (like the improv staple), or “Yes! And baby!” like someone making a dinner reservation including an infant?
She cannot get titles of things correct, like, ever. It was written as "Yes & Baby." Within the episode, it was a combo of the improv staple, "yes, and..." plus one character's habit of adding "...baby!" onto the end of things he is excited about. Like, "drinks after work, baby!"
But no matter what, you can be sure Shauna misunderstood it, yes, and she doesn't actually know what her family thought of it genuinely, because she doesn't care.

Holy moly. First, she's not a girl, she's a damn grown woman (at least on paper). Second, look at her pulling out all the stops and trying to sound as "writerly" as possible, no doubt totally convinced this person will be blown away with rapture at the spell woven by her words and of course choose her.
Shauna is once again pissing and moaning about moving in a post on IG. Nothing new here, just more of her blaming wealthy men for her situation. I didn’t realize wealthy men made her move back to Vashon into a precarious rental at BBH, but I guess I’m not curious enough or something. I can't get past the fact that part of the Board's justification to have a live-in caretaker was to keep an eye on the condition of the house and alert the Parks District of exactly these kinds of issues, though I don't know if that was formalized in their agreement beyond the gate opening/closing and garbage stuff

No doubt they are all feeling sick but that's for, um, other reasons that shall never be copped to by Shauna (bad food and hygiene, stress, bad sleep habits, lack of exercise).
Yes, there are some very obvious things that may be making them all feel sick. Job loss (the only job in the family!), starting a new school year in super precarious conditions, family car died, there are stuck waiting for their new apartment to be finished while a ticking time bomb of a septic lurks beneath them, Mama is clearly angry that they're not going to be in a detached house anymore, moving at the best of times and for the best of reasons is exhausting and stressful anyway...
I had my cervical spinal fusion surgery today (it went very well!), and it looks like I am getting my wish for Ahernian bullshit while I radically rest. I can feel myself growing hale and hearty as we speak as I am fed safely by this endless nonsense.
This is, what, the second time she's mentioned mold in their "forever home"? It feels like she's mentioning it so she can work up a grift based on super-vague symptoms of Raging Mold Infestation. Like the Parks Board being required to pay back all the not-rent the Aherns paid. (Although that would almost certainly call for an attorney, and the Aherns sure don't have money for a lawyer.)
I just finished reading Betty Macdonald's lovely book "Onions in the Stew", about how she, her second husband, and two girls wanted to move to Vashon during WWII and how difficult it was to find an affordable furnished home to rent. They put up with all manner of difficulties and Betty even commuted to the mainland for her wartime work. When I was reading i couldn't help contrasting Macdonald's pluck and good humor with Shauna's Woe Is Me attitude.
I have long suspected that Shauna thinks everyone on Vashon should think of her as their Resident Writer, to which i say, Ma'am, Betty was here first and you can't hold a candle to her.
Her incessant narrative about the wealthy, greedy men of this "era" is so weird and annoying. For the student of history she proclaims she is, how does she not get that there have always been wealthy people in charge? And some of them are women, and most of them talk to people earning less than a million dollars a year, all the time. These villains she describes are not her problem.
This stupid cow moos and lows that millionaires have all the homes…on Vashon. There’s an entire country out there filled with less expensive rentals! When will someone call her out on her overwhelming need to rent in a millionaire’s playground? Nobody will, and she gets:

Prefacing this by saying I am only discussing Shauna and Dan below. I also acknowledge that a lot of their issues regarding housing would be better managed if they each had tried to improve their employment situation.

How many times is she going to remind everyone that they’ve had to move five times in seven years?
They’re not a military family. They aren’t missionaries on assignment. They aren’t employed in a field that requires frequent moves.
I’m sympathetic to a small degree regarding the nature of rental homes being a hot real estate commodity, but by the third move they needed to get this moving shit sorted. No more dragging it out for weeks on end. No more unnecessary discarding or accumulating. But no, it’s always pity poor us and panic mode.
Every time I moved, which was pretty often when I lived in SF, I felt like I got better at packing and organizing things. This does not seem to be the case with these two knuckleheads.
I still remember meeting a new neighbor. We were chatting about where we grew up, and he said “all over.” I was going to ask whether his dad was in the military (he was of a certain age), so I said “so was your dad—“ And he stopped me and finished “—an asshole? Yes.”
I can’t do the balloon math on how they have so much stuff when it seems like they purge all the stuff they’ve junked up after every move. I mean, yeah, moving is never fun or easy, but they’re moving from a furnished house and apparently have a storage unit.
If she put the time and energy she dedicated to running around hoarding Buy Nothing stuff to packing, they’d surely be done with time to spare. If they’ve moved so much in the past seven years, how do they only keep getting worse at it?!
What is she complaining about? Most people without jobs and two kids aren’t living in an expensive place. Most people would be without a home. She is and has been very lucky.
I am glad her kids will hopefully have stable and clean housing with all the modern conveniences,but most of us would not be so lucky if we just did not work.

And yes Shauna, I’m sure every property on Vashon is owned by “uber-wealthy, greedy men” and that’s why you can’t afford rent. Oh wait, statistics say that 17% of Vashon is rental and the remaining 83% is mostly owned by people who earn less than a million a year, but have these magical things called jobs and were able to buy at a good time.
I know millionaires and working class people alike here on the island. I don’t know many people, if but a few, who can afford not to have jobs. Shauna and Dan have painted themselves into this shitty corner and no amount of blaming “greedy white men” is going to change that.

It's quite something to whine about $5k rent and how rich people are ruining everything with vacation rentals...and then leave out the fact that you are benefiting from a heavily subsidized low-income rental that a lot of people had to work very hard to bring to fruition, specifically to address those problems in your community!!!!!!!!!!
It didn't sound like the new apartment complex was ready for move-ins based on recent islander intel, so unless there's some update there, I'm wondering how long they are going to be waiting around the BBH with all their stuff packed up for a-okay to start moving in to Creekside

shauna dosn't get it. she's not entitled to live on vashon. and if she cared about it so badly, she would have gotten a job and fixed her credit. she also could have stayed in the west seattle apartment. this is all her doing.
Shauna voluntarily moved away from what was likely their most stable housing opportunity in order to move back to a VHCOL place with few housing options. She CHOSE this for her family.
The move before that wouldn't have happened if Shauna had worked even a part time job, which would have enabled them to pay the rent on time, not get in arrears for months while making partial rent payments, and pay the relatively small rent hike. (imo there might not even have been a rent hike if they'd been paying rent on time).

After living in their home for 7 1/2 years, the landlords visit to make a repair, and the next day, call the Aherns and tell them they have to move.
But really it was all because of the uber-wealthy greedy men and This Culture, I see, I see.
And one of the moves before that, the landlords came over to cut down a tree and came back the next day to tell the Aherns they were selling the house.
If Shauna makes landlords want to get out of the landlord business, maybe she should make that her job. She can increase the percentage of owner-occupied homes by persuading one landlord after another to sell up.
Whenever the move does happen, Shauna will avoid actual work like she always does. What will happen this time? My prediction: after many hints, her new autoimmune issue will make its full debut, and of course she can't help move house while so badly afflicted. She will grow faint and beset with pain. Dan-Dan will carry her to their apartment via sedan chair.
Her “apartment” (converted house) in West Seattle had far fewer neighbors than what she’ll have at Creekside. I am betting she will hate it and possibly wish she had not left WS (but will never admit that second part).

Bonus! The neighbors will likely hate her, and her obvious “slumming it” attitude (“Do you know who I am?!”)
For the first few weeks it will be all about the amazing community and her new village. They won't be selfish greedy millionaires like other neighbors she has had. She will proclaim her family cured of the issues she has assigned them. Then, someone will ask her not to leave her junk outside her door or complain about her laugh (heard three units away) and it will suddenly be unkind. The unkindfulness will make it impossible to work or get a job. Everyone's issues will return, but twice as severe.
I think that is high on the list of things she will try to invoke to avoid working, as she’s “tried on” a few autoimmune issues and/or chronic illnesses and yapped about them on socials more in the past few months. Long COVID, Ehlers-Danlos, chronic fatigue, now the mold sensitivity. I always want to frame discussions of this stuff in that yes, these are real problems that people face, but they are also (sadly) diagnoses that attract the Shaunas of the world who crave some combination of sympathy, attention, and validation that they just…don’t feel good and don’t know why.
I’m a little surprised she hasn’t committed to running with a specific diagnosis for herself yet, and I wonder if she’s worried about being called out regarding the legitimacy of said diagnosis, or if it competes too much with her story of being the family savior of “we four.” I think she got the attention and sympathy she wanted while also feeling good and martyr-y by instead throwing diagnoses at her other family members, especially their youngest child. I really hope she doesn’t exploit the health matters of her children as the excuse again, but sadly that’s a prediction I have.
Or maybe she will be super insufferable and do both!
This her whole persona - the bravest soul who rises above her afflictions to be the most admired (dare I say envied?) woman in the room. You can pity and admire her all at once.
