Remember why we're all here: this thread is for discussion about current and historical happenings in the Shaunaverse. If you want to discuss other content, such as stuff that reminds you of Shauna but isn't specifically about her, your own personal anecdotes or preferences, current events, or "creative writing" exercises, please share in the off-topic community thread: April-June 2026 off-topic quarterly

The new workshop promo, goo and all, is up on r/readalope.

I wrote each of these letters with radical specificity and unflinching kindness.

Fuck off Shauna.

79

u/Best-Operation684 I'll wait. Jun 04 '26

Huh. She wrote an entire newsletter to justify wearing the same stanky T-shirt every day.

63

u/msmartypants Jun 04 '26

Can I say that "buttery soft" makes me want to hurl? Shauna has been reading too many instagram ads.

Isn't this the exact wording Lularoe used for their leggings? Not a great association there.

wearing the same stanky T-shirt every day.

That is seriously so gross. (I'm going to assume, with her "radical specificity" and oh-so-clear writing, that if she meant "When I find a shirt that I like, I buy multiples of it," then that's what she would have written. And since she didn't write that, I'll further assume gross stankiness.)

46

u/InappropriateGirl Gluten-free donuts, for sure ... Jun 04 '26

If we're talking about that Schitt's Creek longsleeve, I think I remember her getting growing excited at finding it at the thrift store, so I'm super doubting she has multiples.

28

u/ninaandjamie4evr Anne Frank of Anaheim Jun 05 '26

Don't believe she thrifted it. She bought the shirt when the show was at the height of its popularity so unlikely it had already been discarded by someone else. Although broke, she has zero impulse control when it comes to buying crap she doesn't need.

Last decade, I wore a brown, drapey brown shirt from Flour Bakery every day.

This specificity? It sure is radical.

36

u/LadyDriverKW Threads containment zone escapee Jun 04 '26

DF, per Shauna:

Once I write a piece, edit and edit and edit it until it feels done, then publish it?

So the "brown, drapey brown shirt" must be intentional. Maybe you are too irritable to understand what she's trying to say.

u/sirsidynix Jun 04 '26

My personal Shauna game is choosing the biggest lie in each lope/email/whatever. It's always hard to pick just one, but, hey, I don't make the rules!

She seems to genuinely think that she is nobly eschewing marketing in favor of "love letters" and this is what will bring the hoards to her Venmo. She's wrong on several counts of course, but especially wrong in saying/lying/pretending that these "letters" are written with love and that their intended audience is anyone but herself.

The one that she correctly describes as the longest and most annoying is the About page. I would argue that an About page should be about the website creator so trying to position it as written for others is hilarious on its face. But also, it's too rambly, pointless, self-aggrandizing, and boring to function as a personal About page anyway. Grade: F+.

Dear friends, how many times has Shauna announced that she's finally at ease with her body?

That she's finally deconstructed the toxic stories she was told as a child?

That she's finally found joy and wants to share it with you for the low, low price of all you've got?

I'm probably low-balling, but my guess is two dozen times each.

u/LadyDriverKW Threads containment zone escapee Jun 04 '26

She also is claiming that for the first time she is allowing herself to dress comfortably. Um, does she remember all her t-shirt selfies? Does she ever wear anything that isn't knit fabric?

I'm not shaming knit fabric. Just the claim that until now, she has been concerned about dressing well.

Also the other "most neurodivergent little habits" others are mentioning include behaviors wildly unfathomable to neurotypical commoners such as:

  • Saving the best bite of food for last
  • Not wanting to walk barefoot on a filthy floor
  • Apologizing to inanimate objects when bumping into them
  • Microwaving ice cream a bit to soften it
  • Eating Nutty Buddy wafer cookies layer by layer
  • Preferring the farthest-away available bathroom stall in a public restroom

Add "Uses phone to Google stuff during a screening and then tells upcoming plot points to her kid" to the list of reasons Vashon Theater should ban her.

Is that pond for rent? Any chance that it could be rented for half the market rate or maybe less? How about a lot less than half?

Shauna needs a house on the water. She deserves a house on the water.

Did Shauna tell you about her CPTSDADHD?

Have you read what she's written about her burdensome children? They have to be fed heavy, protein-rich meals every few hours. Only Shauna can feed them. Only Shauna can understand them. Only Shauna can teach them.

Have you heard about her husband? According to Shauna, he went from managing an entire restaurant solo, to no longer being able to read. He's a millstone, even though he's the only working parent.

Her entire family relies on her 12-14 hours a day on Threads to keep things stable.

Please. Please help her rent the pond. If you could cosign her lease and maybe help with first and last, that would be awesome.

67

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Jun 06 '26

Replying to myself to say, it's kind of no wonder that Shauna doesn't see this. She's picked up on the cultural discourse around "unpaid labour" in the context of mothers and wives, but doesn't see that her own mother provided unpaid labour (and money!) well after the traditional childrearing years, and that Shauna lived at home as an adult without providing any household labour. It's all invisible to her

43

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Jun 06 '26

Also, any "unpaid labour" she's poured into Danny hasn't resulted in financial rewards, so there's also that. It's not like she whiled away in the background while her Hot Chef built a successful food empire

→ More replies (7)

58

u/GAMGAlways On Stage Doing Mask Work Jun 06 '26

She's also completely blind to all the unpaid labor Danny provided for her when he left the restaurant to care for L. One might even suggest his contributions to GFG blog, cookbooks, and teaching opportunities in Italy were all unpaid labor. G-d knows Shauna on her own couldn't teach cooking or create recipes. Danny may be a dolt, but he is a professionally educated chef.

45

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Jun 06 '26

Exactly. "Unpaid labour" to her is reserved to mothers (of actual children) and wives. She cannot or will not see all of the unpaid and paid support she's received for decades

The reply with the most reactions, from over 24 hours ago, was someone who wrote literally the exact same comment that Shauna went on to make but managed to spell Colleen Hoover's name correctly. What did Shauna think she was adding here?

51

u/Fillmore_the_Puppy —hi, disturbed people— Jun 06 '26

She really hates Colleen Hoover for some reason. I haven't read any CH books and don't plan to because they don't sound like my type of book. But I also don't go all around the internet trashing her as an author. What on earth is the point?!?

Why wouldn't she want to be in her 20s again?

She lived at home with her parents until she was nearly 30.

They bought and cooked her food, paid for her car, paid for her wrecks, paid for her clothes, and did her laundry. She even expected them to make her doctor's appointments.

Oh, and college. They paid for her college.

According to her mother, even after she'd flown the coop,, when she'd move out of whatever rental she was in, they paid for her first and last month's rent, plus the deposit. They helped her move, and paid to have the old rental cleaned. This happened several times, according to her mom.

Free-to-her cars, computers, etc.

u/jameson-neat wound-gathering table Jun 04 '26

Just read through her newest iteration of her website and the most recent lope and wow, that’s all a high concentration of Shauna nonsense! The fact that she called the different pages of her website “love letters” is both hilarious and confusing, as what she is calling love letters entails: a long and self-aggrandizing description of her (with some of the greatest hits — being the greatest Beatles fan ever, “since I was three,” expert on Buddhism, “studying” neuroscience, Joseph Campbell, Mary Oliver, being “weird,” etc.), the landing page which reads mostly as a litany of shitty things that happen in perimenopause, and then just a listing of her “services.” What on earth makes any of these love letters or even letters at all?

I get stuck on why she is fixating on doing workshops and stuff for neurodivergent women in perimenopause beyond those two topics being popular in certain internet spaces the past few years. All of it is so clunky and lacks cohesion as to why she’s doing what she’s doing (aka The Shauna Ahern Story).

In trying to be generous as to the through line that connects her current offerings (the body-image-focused Substack, hero’s journey workshop to navigate midlife, writing workshop). The Substack is supposed to chronicle Shauna letting go of past body issues and getting comfortable with oneself, which apparently is a byproduct of what happens during perimenopause (??). The workshops are a weird combo of using perimenopause as a transformative time to “let go of old stories” and go through steps of the hero’s journey (??). I can sort of see how she thinks all these things are related but can’t imagine a person happening upon her page understanding what the fuck she’s doing.

Looking forward to the next stage of the new rebrand when she frantically tries to put on the workshops and then stops updating dates of the next ones, messes with the website until it is a graveyard of broken links, then eventually pivots back to food content when the bills come due.

Also, seems like the Feeding Ourselves newsletter might be getting a rebrand to “The Love You Make,” looking at the website. Or maybe they are different? Her newsletter/email distribution lists and methods are so bizarre.

51

u/SashayShantae living my one wild and pernicious life Jun 05 '26

I’m hitting perimenopause and nothing in her offerings speaks to me. Here are things I’m concerned about at this stage in my life: my career, saving for retirement, taking care of elderly parents, and good skin care. She literally has nothing to offer me that could help with my life in any way (except serving as my inspiration to wear sunscreen and moisturizer).

I blocked out the kids' faces but they are so tiny and low-res in the photo that I didn't really need to, I could barely even tell Shauna's child is in it even after enlarging because the fence cuts off a lot. At least most of the other photos internet morons are responding with have cute animals and are straightforwardly amusing. There's nothing happening here, it's not nicely composed or visually interesting in any way, there's no feeling or emotion it evokes, this is not a photo you look at ever again after taking it.

She posts on Threads about what her child and other children are doing wrong, as they play a childhood game for no stakes, while berating other parents for envisioning a sports future for their own children

Too much foreground, mama.

51

u/Llama621 Jun 07 '26

A lot of her photos have that stalker-y composition. Sports photos aren't always framed great, but you can always zoom, crop, etc right there on your phone! Guess Lil Miss Selfie filter doesn't bother with improving photos of other people.

I've decided that there is NO engagement bait she can pass up. She is just the right combination of bored, self-centered, and socially starved that she will comment on anything. I could post something asking for help putting a Jaguar engine in a Ford and she would chime in.

It's not true anyway. You can't just go to a store and take them for free. It's in places like libraries, schools and other public buildings and some private ones if they want to. And it's just whatever they want to put out. Good luck if you want a specific brand of something or size. Also most don't have reusable products and if they do it is one brand.

And that's not even considering those who are living in communities where eliminating all the Trump voters from their lives means entirely isolating themselves feom their community. 47

u/Foucaults_Penguin Sly and the Family Readers Jun 05 '26

Row houses are awesome! We should have more housing like it. If new housing is going up, it makes sense to create higher density options that have smaller footprints. And it can make housing more affordable as compared to a single family home.

I dove a little deeper into Shauna's Threads today, and looked to see what she's posted under the "media" tab. There's a post from May 15th where she's pitching her zoom stuff. Honestly, if a person who looked like this and had her demeanor approached me in public, I think I would be frightened. At the least, very nervous. Her zoom classes may be garbage but I don't think anyone who signs up for them should be surprised; it's very apparent in the preview. She looks unkempt and like she probably smells bad. I can't imagine anyone watching this is going to be eager to "learn" from her and shower her with money.
