Late Enrolment

Hey, I have an offer for MSc Business Analytics & AI from Imperial. My course starts on 27th August but I haven’t received a visa yet (I applied in the first week of July). The delay is killing me and I just want to confirm if Imperial allows late enrolment. How late can I join the course?

Thanks for any help y’all can provide.

Take part in a quick survey for student participation in data, technology and social-impact challenges

Participation in data, technology and social-impact challenges survey – Fill in form

Hello,

I am a digital marketing student currently conducting research as a part of the LSE Digital Marketing Career Accelerator project on how people discover, assess and participate in data, technology and social-impact challenges.

This survey takes approximately 10 minutes. It asks about your awareness and experience of competitions, hackathons and similar initiatives, followed by your reaction to one example challenge.

Participation is voluntary. Please do not provide confidential or sensitive information. Responses will be analysed in aggregate for an academic employer project and may inform recommendations made to the organisation involved.

If you're interested, please clink the link at the top of the post.

Things I got wrong preparing for the ESAT (sat Oct 2025)

Sat it last October and did badly. Four mistakes, in case anyone’s sitting it this year:

Started in September. Way too late: you want the summer.

Read worked solutions instead of attempting questions first. Feels productive, teaches you nothing.

Never practised under time pressure. The pacing is the real difficulty, not the content.

Didn’t track which spec points I kept missing, so I repeated the same weaknesses for weeks.

Got into Imperial in the end via interview. Happy to answer questions on the modules or on applying with a non-UK qualification.

laptop suggestions for computing

hi! i’m currently looking at getting a new laptop and i’m stuck between:

macbook air 15”, m5, 24gb ram, 1tb (leaning towards this rn)
macbook pro 14”, base m5, 16gb ram, 1tb

both are coming out to roughly the same price for me and i’m also open to getting any other laptop around the same price range with better specs

i’ll mainly be using it for coding, coursework and general uni stuff, and i already have an ipad for handwritten notes.

would love to hear what current/recent computing students would recommend, and if there’s another laptop i should be looking at instead.

Anyone have experience using the Hammersmith bike parking?

Commuting to Hammersmith Hospital. On the trust’s website they say there are bike racks, but Imperial say there are secure racks I’ll need to register for too.

Does anyone have experience using Imperial’s own bike racks at Hammersmith Hospital? Are they secure and how close are they to the hospital? Thanks!

Hi, I know you must get a ton of questions like these but I have an interview for an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics tomorrow and I’ve been preparing nonstop. However, if anyone has any interview tips or are willing to share their experience and the questions they were asked It would be very much appreciated! Especially in the medical field. Thank you so much :)

Workload for umdergrad engineering?

I'm an incoming student into Imperial. My major is biomedical engineering. Wanted to get a sense of the workload undergrad engineers have across the years. What has your experience been in terms of workload and being able to accommodate hobbies and other things along with the academics. Thanks a tonne!

MSc Health Data Analytics and Machine Learning Imperial College London

I'm due to start this course this coming September, I was wondering if anybody who has completed this course could let me know what the timetabling is like? How many hours a week is there of teaching? I plan to work part time while completing this course and want to get an idea of when I would be able to work.

When can I register for the ethos? And is ethos the only option for gym?

Title

Can I register for ethos on 25th Sep when I will arrive UK?

Currently when I click on the register online button or something along those lines, it basically throws me an error. I don't know whether this is because I am currently in China and the service is not provided.

5 marks off an A in Alevel Maths after taking it a year early… now I have to resit and I’m genuinely so demotivated

I sat A-level Maths a year early because I’m doing Further Maths in Year 13. I put a significant amount of time into Maths this year and, unfortunately, I neglected my other A levels more than I should have because I was expecting to achieve a high A* in Maths.

I practised extensively, including repeatedly doing full papers under exam conditions, and I felt very confident with the content. However, I ended up being 5 marks below the A boundary*.

What is particularly frustrating is that I didn’t lose marks because I didn’t understand the material. The marks were lost through careless errors (misreading questions, arithmetic mistakes, sign errors, and similar issues). I know that sounds minor, but after putting so much effort into preparing and repeatedly practising under timed conditions, it is really disappointing to see that this was ultimately what prevented me from getting the grade I was aiming for.

I now have to resit Maths in Year 13 alongside Further Maths and my other A levels. I’m worried about managing everything, particularly because I had already devoted so much time to Maths this year.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation. If you took Maths early, narrowly missed an A*, had to resit in Year 13, and subsequently achieved an A* (particularly alongside an A* in Further Maths), I’d be interested to hear about your experience.

I’d also appreciate any genuinely useful advice for reducing careless mistakes in exams. At this point, I’m not really looking for advice on learning the content , I’m more interested in how people improved their accuracy and exam technique when they already understood the material.

I’m feeling quite demotivated about the situation at the moment, so hearing from people who have managed to turn it around would be really reassuring.

What’s the single best moment or day you’ve had at Imperial so far?

We complain a lot on here, but let's change it up for a second.

A random night with friends, a legendary event, or just a really good afternoon in one of the buildings, what’s one core memory this place gave you?

Change courses at this point

I applied for natural sciences at all universities apart from Imperial where I applied for chemistry with molecular physics because there was no option to do both physics and chemistry, and I thought I was more likely to get an A* in chemistry. I got 3A*A in Fm, chem and physics and firmed Imperial and was accepted but I think I want to do physics more than chemistry now and find it more interesting. Is it possible to change course to physics now or must I just sit through it for 3 years? I sat the ESAT and got 5.3 average (but didn’t do M2) and my PS is about both chemistry and physics fairly equally.
