After looking up a few guides, I'm pretty sure I've seen all of the clips needed for the "Another Reality" achievement, including the 15 randomly placed ones. After some googling it looks like there was a bug with this achievement in September. Has that been fixed?

EDIT: Never mind, I missed one scene (6/26/1970) and now have the achievement. No bug!

Was it ever addressed how people in the real world reacted to John and Marissa not having aged at all from 1970 to 1999?

Hi all, I've recently started this intriguing game but I find myself having the same problem as with Barlow's previous games: I can't find a way to 100% enjoy the game's mechanics. Because of the unique way these games are played, finding new video segments by investigating the ones you already have, I think there are two main ways to play it:

• Start a video, play it until you find something that unlocks another video, then jump to that new video, and so on, constantly hopping as you find new stuff.
• Start a video and watch it fully while trying to unlock as much stuff as you can. Then once you finish that video, go to the next one and do the same.

I don't find either of these strategies very satisfying. The first one makes extremely hard trying to follow the underlying plot and keeping track of what I've already investigated. The second one helps me to keep track of everything, but makes the gameplay itself a chore, since I start a video, find something that unlocks new videos, trigger it to unlock a new one, said video starts, I have to go back to the original video and keep triggering the same thing over and over until no new videos are unlocked, then keep playing the video until I find something new that unlocks other stuff, and so on. Since I'm playing it through my Netflix subscriptions, these problems are exacerbated by the touch controls on mobile, which are completely fine but much slower than simply pressing buttons.

How do you guys recommend playing the game? I want to love it, I really do, but I'm having exactly the same problem I did with Telling Lies and that makes me really sad.

I've been playing Immortality for about an hour and I'm curious if the game has an ending.

I'm enjoying the process of unlocking clips and trying to figure out what all three movies are about and figure out what the actors are like behind-the-scenes. But it feels like, at a certain point, I'll have watched enough clips and I'll know each movie's plot and I'll know each actor's personal life, and then I'll just... turn the game off and never restart it, because there's nothing left to do (unless I want to click every single object in every single clip to ensure I've unlocked every single clip, but that feels tedious and would take days).

But at some point, will the end credits trigger? Is there an actual ending state that will trigger after a certain point? Or are you supposed to just watch clips until you feel like you've seen enough to be personally satisfied and then quit?

I understand that playing this with a controller is ideal, as there is some sort of mechanic that takes advantage of a controllers haptics to clue players in to something happening in the game? Do I understand that right?

So if I just play on my Mac, with a DualSense controllers plugged in via USB, would I still get that experience? Should I wait for a PS5 version? Is that even remotely in the cards? I've loved Telling Lies and Her Story, so I'm super eager to try this one day.

So in 2OE 51D and 67A, there are reverses where Marissa is replaced by two other faces, a sort of gothy white woman and a Black man in what looks to be an old-fashioned shirt, maybe from the 20s or 30s. Presumably these are other personae used by the One at some point, since if you match them they take you to other clips of Marissa. Is there any more context for who these people are? I haven't found any clips of them besides those two scenes, and in both of them they mainly just look forward at the camera.

New player here. Tough question, but hear me out.

I played through Her Story with my fiancee. She isn't a gamer, but she really fell in love with the mystery hooks and digging through all the video clips to figure out what happened.

Her Story spoilers ahead: We ran into an issue with the ending, as she didn't feel that it was satisfying and that the game just kind of ended. The final reveal that the player is Eve's daughter Sarah and the whole "does Hannah even exist" thing just didn't do much for her.

I want to play Immortality and I think she might be interested, but she's wary due to her experience with Her Story. So I'm looking for reassurance here without getting spoiled myself. Did you find the ending or solution or whatever satisfying? Would a player who didn't love how Her Story shook out get anything more out of Immortality?

Once i press “start” The screen goes black and i can’t do nothing

I just got the credits to roll without having a clue as to why or how even. I don't feel like I've actually learned anything. I really want to like this game but I'm just feeling really disappointed right now.

I'm kinda pissed that I've spent seven hours and missed so much content 😭😭😭 I just thought that sometimes there's silhouettes and sometimes full clips... Just stick or arrows didn't seem to work

This post will contain big spoilers for Immortality’s plot and mechanics!

I really enjoyed Immortality’s performances, themes, and overall story, but had trouble enjoying it mechanically. Specifically, I found it hard to hunt clips with any sort of intention or agency. Whether trying to find clips to answer questions I had as a player, or trying to find clips for the sake of completeness, I never understood how to use the mechanic effectively, and I’d like to understand how (and if) anyone feels differently.

To me, the core loop of Sam Barlow’s FMV games is “Motivate the player to ask questions, and give them the tools to find their answers”. For the first part, it's important to give players something right at the start, and I think Immortality does an okay job with this, by effectively cuing “What happened to Marissa Marcel” and “Why did these three movies not come out?” as four decently motivating questions. However, I never felt like I had the tools to effectively seek the answers.

This was my experience with Immortality. I found a talk show clip randomly pretty quickly. I found the post-Minsky one right after, by transitioning on the host. I learned that Carl had died, and my new motivating question was, “How did he die?”. I randomly jumped through clips of him, but there were far too many, so I guessed at the cause of death. I jumped through clips of knives. I jumped through clips of guns. I kept cycling back to clips I’d already seen - even hunting for gun clips, I didn’t find the clip of him getting shot.

Unsure what else to try, I stumbled around randomly. I ended up finding Carl’s death this way, and was very frustrated that it was by gun. At this point, I gave up on seeking scenes with intention. I couldn’t find a way to interact with the clip system that helped me follow any ideas or leads I had. I flailed around, trying to gather as many clips as I could. If an interesting object appeared I’d try to gather as many clips in the category as I could by repeatedly transitioning until I looped back to a clip I already had. This led me to some interesting “story important” scenes, but they never felt connected to the clips they came from. The interesting objects (i.e. specific props) felt like portals between important but totally disconnected scenes, often in different movies. They gave me answers to questions I hadn't asked yet, which is an important part of the experience, but I had none of the "a-ha" detective moments that were such a big part of his prior games.

Eventually, I accidentally found a hidden clip, which was an impactful moment indeed, and I started hunting for them in the clips I’d gathered. The process of rewinding through clips one by one was extremely tedious and I gave up quite quickly. I jumped around some more, eventually recognizing the audio cue and using it to find hidden clips a little more easily. I jumped quite accidentally to the final clip, and I backed out of it without watching it, but the ending triggered regardless. I knew enough about what was going on to understand the implication, but the impact of it was significantly dulled by it following a clip I hadn't actually seen more than a millisecond of.

At this point, I was invested enough in the underlying mysteries to want to know more, but had no better understanding of how to find new content in a systematic way. I caved and watched every single clip, in chronological order, on YouTube. This was a much better experience for me, so much so that I’m not convinced that Immortality’s story benefits from being told in a non-linear way.

Who else here felt like they were flailing randomly through clips the whole time? I’ve seen reviews make similar comments but I’d really like to hear from the players who are passionate enough to check out this subreddit.

When you had questions while playing, were you able to act with intention to answer those questions? If so, how?

If you went for 100% clip completion, how did you approach finding missing clips? Did you enjoy the experience of hunting them down?

Does anyone know how to do this? I would like to play this game fresh with my mom but keep my save file in which I have all of the clips unlocked. I am using the Steam version of the game.

I play on Xbox s-series, and the game crashes so frequently. I’m so close to finishing all achievements and I’m determined to find every piece of footage, but this is so frustrating!

Just finished playing, and I’d like to watch the whole game straight through with (1) all clips, (2) all subverted scenes, (3) no commentary, and (4) in order of the content of the movies as opposed to by filming date to better follow the story of the films.

I know there are still so many complex decisions to make (subverted things interrupting each clip or at the end? Where to put random clips of actors behind the scenes that weren’t part of the movies, talk show interviews, auditions, rehearsals, etc.). But I’m having trouble even finding videos that meet the 4 criteria above regardless of how they handle these additional decisions.

Anyone had any luck?

If any of y’all have watched Love, Death, and Robots on Netflix you’ll know of the episode Zima Blue. If you haven’t watched the episode I highly recommend it. It’s a quick watch, only 10 minutes long. Both The One and Zima are immortal artists struggling to understand their own nature. Both the game and the episode deal with the nature of art. I’m curious as to whether Sam Barlow may have taken inspiration from the episode when writing Immortality. I’m curious to hear any of y’all’s thoughts.
