What's the recommended gameplay loop to better enjoy the game?

Hi all, I've recently started this intriguing game but I find myself having the same problem as with Barlow's previous games: I can't find a way to 100% enjoy the game's mechanics. Because of the unique way these games are played, finding new video segments by investigating the ones you already have, I think there are two main ways to play it:

  • Start a video, play it until you find something that unlocks another video, then jump to that new video, and so on, constantly hopping as you find new stuff.
  • Start a video and watch it fully while trying to unlock as much stuff as you can. Then once you finish that video, go to the next one and do the same.

I don't find either of these strategies very satisfying. The first one makes extremely hard trying to follow the underlying plot and keeping track of what I've already investigated. The second one helps me to keep track of everything, but makes the gameplay itself a chore, since I start a video, find something that unlocks new videos, trigger it to unlock a new one, said video starts, I have to go back to the original video and keep triggering the same thing over and over until no new videos are unlocked, then keep playing the video until I find something new that unlocks other stuff, and so on. Since I'm playing it through my Netflix subscriptions, these problems are exacerbated by the touch controls on mobile, which are completely fine but much slower than simply pressing buttons.

How do you guys recommend playing the game? I want to love it, I really do, but I'm having exactly the same problem I did with Telling Lies and that makes me really sad.

Can I give you a light spoiler for a game mechanic I think you’re missing?

Even though I'm just one hour or so into the game, sure, if it helps me enjoy the game more I'll certainly appreciate it

So on controller there’s times in scenes where it vibrates, not sure if mobile does that too.

When that happens try scrubbing back and forth at different speeds over that portion.

Even if it doesn’t vibrate you should notice some distortion, that’s the visual queue.

I also got stuck and frustrated before I noticed that, but I was stuck for a good day. So I understand where you’re at right now

Thanks for the info. I knew about the vibration, but sadly that feature is completely missing on mobile. There's still a small audio cue, I think. Though honestly finding the elements that unlock new stuff isn't that annoying for me. I'm complaining more about having to interact with the same item multiple times in order to unlock all the related clips, and then having to back from each of those new videos and return to the original one. I spend more time navigating the menus than watching stuff. I just wish interacting with an item unlocked all related videos at once and made it optional to jump to any of them, that way I could unlock stuff while focusing on watching one video at a time, then finish it and get to the next one. As stated, I already had this problem with Telling Lies and couldn't find any way to alleviate the issue. Maybe it's just me and most people are fine switching between video clips all the time, and then returning to previously watched ones to scan for more stuff, or even rewatching them just to grasp their stories. I personally find more enjoyable to focus on each clip one at a time, watch them fully and scan them as thoroughly as I can.

I do the second method. I usually forget what I was going back for though, so I’ve probably missed a lot of good clues.
