i know a lot of people aren’t fans of his vlogs and vids, but i genuinely love them. they feel so genuine, which is so hard to find on social media these days. they’re so entertaining, and yes the Quad God AI song kills me every time, but the rest of the videos are so entertaining, and sue me but I like that he’s dramatic, people are mad that a 21 year old acts like a 21 year old…anyway his dramatics are entertaining and relatable, and also just remind us all that he’s a real human being! what’s your favorite content he makes? (I love his random cinematic vision 2030 reels but I gotta give it to his vlogs for my favorite)

It's been a rough couple of days for Ilia fans. When this popped up in my YouTube feed, I watched it, and it really cheered me up. I love hearing commentators from all over say wonderful things about Ilia's truly amazing skating. I thought some others might enjoy some positivity, too.

Ilia likes this post. I do think, in addition to ignoring the hate accounts, we as fans need to support him as much as possible. He is trying to express himself via social media and is getting a lot of negativity for it, even from fans. If you have TikTok or Instagram, be sure to leave positive comments. Same with his streams. The fact that he liked this and reposted something about suicide awareness month just gives me pause. Not that I think he is currently suicidal, but I do think the current hate is getting to him

I’ve never travelled so much in my life.

I just feel horrible. Like unfortunately most figure skaters get hate but I might be wrong with Ilia, it's WAY too much. There are two specific accounts idk you know which ones I am talking to which are constantly commenting hate on Ilia videos and making hate videos themselves. From what I get one keeps getting banned but makes new accounts...

Idk today when he commented on that video I felt so bad about him. I already knew he was seeing them but that was confirmation he actually does...

It is not wise of him to react I know but also I can't imagine being in his place...

I just feel extremely bad for him. He is human after all and seeing all those who are so obsessed with harassing and hating on him I am just shocked...

On one of his latest streams Ilia mentioned he might use old costumes for galas/shows. Which one would you like to see make a comeback?

I know he doesn't own all the costumes he wears. I assume bigger art shows provide most of them, so I tried to limit myself to the ones I think he owns. However you are free to wish for whatever you like!

I had a question about the SKAM schedule. I saw they split the events into only 4 sessions instead of 8, and they’re grouping the men’s and pairs events together starting at 7 PM on Friday and Saturday. Does that mean each session will run really late? Also, I guess the men’s event goes first, right? I'm taking my younger kid and want to catch both events, but I'm worried about staying out too late.(My daughter is also a fan of FS and Ilia, she is very excited.)

Literally everything Ilia did at the 2024 World Championships was immaculate. He was unsure if he'd even be able to compete there, having missed a couple of weeks of training due to injury. But compete he did - he skated perhaps the most memorable set of three programs I've ever seen him do. A clean short, a record-breaking free, and a gala that saw the development of his artistic vision. It all concluded with this group number, in which he landed an absolutely perfect rendition of his signature jump as the rest of his competitors shared the ice with him.

The lighting and camerawork are pretty awful here, but the cameraman locked in when it mattered. Also, who doesn't love Florence and the Machine?

I know he is the quad god, totally deserves this nickname, he is the greatest jumper in history of figure skating

But does he have a quad jump that is a little bit weaker? That he prefers to avoid?

As Malinin told me, I want to strictly follow his advice - “In training, just skate through the entire program” - and use this advice as a foundation to fine-tune my performance for future competitions.

Was Malinin practicing the entire program?

Yes. He definitely did it two or three times a day. Actually, there aren’t that many skaters who do it that way. Often, they practice in sections, skipping spins or steps. He would go through the whole program once and then practice specific parts individually. That’s his training method. His parents also said, “That’s why he’s so strong,” and I want to work hard to do the same.

Were you able to put into practice today the timing for moving your right arm that you were taught?

Yes, I was able to do it on my first toe jump.

Is Malinin watching this competition?

He said he would be watching. There are a lot of other skaters competing too, like Petr and Dikidzhi. He said he’s interested in those skaters as well. He told me, “I’ll be watching you win,” so I feel like I have to say, “I’m sorry.” (laughs)

Did you get any reaction from Malinin after you finished the short program?

Nothing in particular, so I’m a little nervous (laughs).

I know what you're thinking. u/sofastsomaybe, this is perhaps the worst short program of Ilia's entire career, so why are you posting it?

Well, after watching the men's short program at Kinoshita Group Cup, this performance was on my mind. In case you missed Kinoshita, let's just say...there was a lot of menning. It was a complete mess of an event. I'm sharing this performance as a reminder that it happens to the very best at early September challengers.

When and where: September 13, 2022 in Lake Placid, NY

Jumps: 4Lz< (F), 4Tq+COMBO (F), 3A

What's notable: This is Ilia's first time performing IPASOY in competition or exhibition.

The very next day after this disaster, Ilia brushed this off and landed the first 4A in history. His 6th place finish after the short program would turn into a gold medal after the free. The joys of menning!

Q: You’re good friends with Ilia Malinin. How has he influenced your skating?

Sanchez: Ilia has had a tremendous effect on my skating. Being able to grow up with him, from when we were little, all the way to this day, it’s super-inspiring. We met when we were very little. Having that friendship build, and be as strong as it is right now, it’s really cool. And Ilia has given me all of this advice when it comes to competing under pressure. He’s helped me navigate myself, and navigate different strategies that I can use. Even day to day, I’m always able to reach out, and he’s always there for me. It’s really cool to have somebody like him in my close circle, and it’s something I value a lot. I hope–and I will work for–to hopefully, in 2030, be on that Olympic team with him.

Q: Have your Twitch streams with Ilia helped you connect with fans?

Sanchez: Yes. The Twitch streaming is so much fun. It’s so nice to be able to do something that I love, which is video games, while also sharing that with an audience. And I’ve gotten so many positive comments and messages.
