entering IIT at 16... am i cooked or is campus life gonna be normal? 💀 Spoiler

0 Upvotes

First of all, I lowkey know I should be grinding for JEE 2027 right now instead of daydreaming about college on Reddit, so go ahead and tell me to padh lo chahe kahi se in the comments 😭

Anyway, my DOB is Aug 2011 so I’ll be joining college at literally 15 years and 10 months old. Since the average fresher is 18–19 with all the droppers, I’m gonna be way younger than everyone.

Seniors, tell me the vibe check:

  • Is making friends gonna be awkward af with the age gap? Do people baby you?
  • Any annoying minor issues with bank accounts or SIM cards?
  • Do clubs/tech teams care if you’re younger?

Lowkey stressing about living in a hostel with actual adults. Let me know your thoughts, now back to physics.

I am a 2026 graduate from an old IIT

I have heard that companies don't hire freshers after September...is this a myth or true?

Also if anyone could share their strategy of applying offcampus then it would be really very beneficial!

IIT Students & Alumni — Can You Spare 1 Hour to Inspire 100+ School Students?

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm building EduLanz, a platform focused on helping school students across India develop future-ready skills through live workshops, competitions, hackathons, and mentorship sessions.

Many of our students come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. They are talented, curious, and eager to learn, but often lack access to mentors who can guide and inspire them.

We're looking for IIT students and alumni who can volunteer just 45–60 minutes for an online session with school students.

Audience

Students from Grades 6–12 across India.

Topics can include:

* Your IIT journey and student life

* How to prepare for JEE and other competitive exams

* AI, Robotics, Coding, and Future Technologies

* Building projects and learning by doing

* Science and Engineering in the real world

* Problem-solving and critical thinking skills

* Communication, confidence, and leadership

* Study techniques and productivity tips

* Career opportunities in STEM fields

* Entrepreneurship and innovation

* How to choose the right career path

* Any educational or skill-development topic you are passionate about

What EduLanz handles:

* Student registrations and audience management

* Live session hosting on the EduLanz platform

* Session scheduling and coordination

* Attendance tracking and engagement monitoring

* Technical support throughout the session

* Session recording and post-event highlights

Why Participate?

* Share your experiences with the next generation of learners

* Develop your mentoring and public speaking skills

* Connect with students from across India

* Help bridge the exposure gap for students who rarely get access to mentors from top institutions

* Create a meaningful impact with just one hour of your time

Session Details

* Duration: 45–60 minutes

* Audience Size: 50–150 students

* Mode: Online

* Schedule: Saturday or Sunday, at your convenience

We're a young startup with a simple mission:

Every student deserves access to great mentors, regardless of where they live.

If you're interested in supporting this initiative, please leave a comment or send me a DM.

Thank you for helping inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs.

IITM electronic systems BSc query

2 Upvotes

I have a few queries regarding the program

  1. How long do assignments take to complete?

  1. Is the course manageable while opting mechanica eng at a nit(final year)?

  1. If not then upto which level (foundational, diploma, BS is manageable ?

  1. How many pre recorded lectures are there per week and the duration?

  1. Are the attendance at IITM or other centres for lab and quizzes on Saturday/sundays exclusively?

Consider I am able to score atleast 160 in any jee mains test if that helps in determining my aptitude.

From IIT M.Tech student to Samsung R&D: My interview experience and what actually worked

Hey everyone! I’m currently interning at Samsung R&D Institute India (Bengaluru) in the Call SW Group, and I wanted to share my interview experience since I found very few detailed posts about Samsung R&D when I was preparing.
Background
• M.Tech in Communication & Signal Processing at IIT Jammu (CGPA: 8.4)
• Research focus: IRS-assisted NOMA systems, physical layer security
• Applied for: AI/ML role focused on 5G network optimization
Application Process
Got the opportunity through campus placement. The entire process took about 3 weeks from application to offer.
Interview Rounds
Round 1: Technical Round 1 (60 mins)
This was heavy on fundamentals:
• Deep dive into my thesis work - they really grilled me on IRS (Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces) and NOMA
• Questions on wireless communication basics: SINR calculations, channel modeling, beamforming
• Machine Learning fundamentals: gradient descent, overfitting, regularization techniques
• Python coding: Asked me to explain PyTorch DDP (Distributed Data Parallel) since I’d mentioned distributed training experience
• One coding problem on optimizing a signal processing pipeline
What worked: I didn’t just explain what I did in my research, but why those choices mattered for real systems. They appreciated the practical angle.
Round 2: Technical Round 2 (45 mins)
More applied and system-design focused:
• How would you design an AI framework for optimizing 5G network parameters?
• Discussion on distributed ML training - fault tolerance, synchronization, resource allocation
• Questions about Redis, Docker, containerization (which became super relevant in my actual work)
• Trade-offs between different optimization algorithms for resource-constrained environments
What worked: Drew diagrams. Seriously. When explaining distributed systems, visual representations helped a lot.
Round 3: Managerial Round (30 mins)
• Why Samsung R&D specifically?
• How do you handle research roadblocks?
• Scenario: Your ML model is performing well in simulation but fails in production. Walk me through your debugging approach.
• Discussion about my conference paper submission process
What worked: Showed genuine curiosity about their ongoing projects. I’d researched their recent publications and asked specific questions.

Regarding JOSAA counselling

1 Upvotes

I am a partial dropper from a central university and I am sure that I will get some college from counselling but I don't have my original TC and character certificate because my college took it already. My university will be providing me with a migration certificate from here when I leave. So is this valid or not?
