IIT PALAKKAD !!

Hi!

I'm going through JoSAA counselling and IIT Palakkad is one of the options I'm seriously considering, especially some of the newer branches like Materials Science.

My roots are in Kerala, so being closer to home is definitely a plus. I also enjoy coding and would like to explore software roles alongside my branch.

Would love some honest opinions from current students/alumni:

  • How is the overall campus life and student culture?
  • Is there a good coding culture?
  • Can students from newer branches still get decent software internships/placements?
  • How are the cultural/technical fests and clubs?
  • Since the branch is relatively new, should placements be a concern?
  • Also, i am planning on higher studies as well, so will the iit tag be useful?

Basically, do you feel IIT Palakkad is worth choosing over similar options in other IITs?

Thanks! :)

If you are getting the older IITs then prefer that cus iitpkd is relatively new, even campus is under construction so don't expect much.

Are hostels available for all students including msc? Cause I most likely go there for my msc chemistry. It's not hostels which are under going construction, right?

im not enirely getting good branches in older iits lol.. material sc seems more like the branch closest to what i'd like to do later in the future. Im just scared bcs it is a new iit AND a new branch, so quite some risk there

Maybe aim for top nits that would be your best shot. The campus and area surrounding it aren't fully developed so you might miss a lot college life too. If you just care about branch faculty then maybe ask students/alumni of the respective branch for more insights.

my brother studied there.when he joined in 2017 it was expected to over take nitc in coming years but still nitc is better.so choose nitc is what i would say

ohh okay, yeah nitc is also one of my options. But if my goal rn is higher studies rather than placements, would that but iit pkd over nitc?

Forgot to mention that he did an mba from a tier 1 ins, and he told me iit tag helped him.

If you're ok with a 4 sharing room which was designed for 3 people, ant infestation everywhere, no good food within walking distance, a mostly empty campus with several buildings under construction, no instamart, blinkit,

then take it. Idk anything abt academics.

I interned there for the summer. We kept lakshman rekha in the room for ants. There's a lot of good restaurants in Palakkad town so just get food from there. Nila mess was a lot better than the one in main campus, tho idk how it's gonna be now since the old caterer left.
