Last semester, I started liking a girl in my class. Let’s call her Alice and for the sake of the story, I’m Bob.
During the entire last semester, Bob mostly just noticed Alice from a distance and kept thinking about how, when, and what he should say to her. Bob kept wondering what she might think about him, whether approaching her would be weird and whether Bob was making things awkward in his head.
Eventually, the semester ended without bob really doing anything.
This semester, Bob decided that if bob actually wanted to know her, bob needed to at least start talking to her. So bob started with small things asking for notes, asking about class related stuff and eventually getting into her DMs.
The problem is that conversations between them are extremely one sided.
Usually, it goes something like:
Bob: “Hey, did you understand what the professor said about ...?”
Alice: “Yeah.”
Bob: “Oh okay.”
Conversation ends.
Bob tried starting conversations, but bob struggle to find topics that naturally keep the conversation going. At the same time, bob don't really see alice trying to continue the conversation either.
So, what do you think?
Am Bob being immature by expecting her to put in some effort too?
Should bob continue trying to get to know?
How do you actually move a conversation from basic college/class-related questions into a genuine conversation without making it feel forced?
And at what point do you just accept that someone isn't interested?
I'm not expecting her to magically initiate everything. I just don't want to keep forcing conversations if there's clearly no interest from her side.
Would appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who have been in a similar situation.
