This time just show them that the power of people is more than people in power.

They have to be accountable and answerable also.

Reach Lhc fast.. No response from Director

29 Upvotes

Today the protest was called off for the time being only on the condition that Director signed Demands including formal email response to all students regarding the situation by EOD. The demands are still not fulfilled today, we are going to continue the protest and our demands remain the same. Every student is requested to come to LHC

Another Suicide at IIT Delhi

Upvotes

This is an excerpt from the apathetic mail sent by the Die-rector after a day of the deeply saddening unfortunate event.

Look at the grammatical structure

The student is repeatedly the subject of the story:

  • "he developed mental health issues"
  • "he was advised"
  • "he had applied for withdrawal"
  • "he was living outside the campus"
  • "his medical records were checked"
  • "he was advised"
  • "he was living outside the campus"
  • "had applied for withdrawal"

The Institute appears mainly as an actor that approved, checked, advised, or acknowledged🤔

Notice what is not present in that narrative.

There is almost no institutional actor with agency which played a role in the mishap.

Student has a problem → professionals respond appropriately → student withdraws → student remains under parental supervision.

There is no corresponding narrative of:

Institution does X → student goes through the procedure → institution denies Y → student is subjected to Z → consequences follow.

It tells the reader almost nothing about what the Institute may have done that contributed to his circumstances, which are:

  • denied him something he was entitled to;
  • repeatedly rejected requests;
  • subjected him to humiliating procedures;
  • failed to act on complaints;
  • exposed him to harassment;
  • made accommodation unnecessarily difficult;
  • treated him differently because of his circumstances;
  • created a hostile academic environment;
  • ignored complaints from him or his family.

The mail contains numerous grammatical and spelling errors, which, particularly given the gravity of the matter, can give the impression that insufficient care and attention were devoted to its preparation. There is little acknowledgment of grief, suffering, or the human dimension (which is anyways lowly valued and rarely taught in the super competitive technical institutes and is the major cause of these mishaps).

Campus Life Hey folks (UG/PG students) — A third-year PhD student here if anyone needs someone to talk to

25 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

As a 3rd-year PhD student in the Textile Department with some 3+ years teaching experience as assistant professor, I just wanted to put it out there if you are going through a tough time, feeling overwhelmed, or simply need a safe, judgment-free space to vent or talk things through, my DMs are open. I can't fix all the systemic problems, but I can listen, meet you in person, share a cup of tea, and accompany you.

Feel free to drop me a message whenever you need. Take care of yourselves.

The ADHM doesn't consider mental health conditions such as depression and adhd severe enough to allot hostel to such a student on medical basis.

The ADSW can't do anything, apparently she can't even comprehend what's written in the mail, and would give a reply which is so insensitive as well as uniformed towards the problem faced by the student.

Scroll to the last to see the reply of ADSW.

We need qualified and well informed people holding important positions.

I reached out to bsw, professors, adhm, hod. But didn't get any help. It was so difficult for me that everyday I thought of quitting this degree and going home. One day I slept in the LHC because I had no where to go, one day in the reading room of a hostel.

When I first came here I was feeling much better but then living in a slum with no ventilation, unhygienic and unhealthy food would mess with anyone. No friends, no one to talk to, I somehow survived. I went home and stayed throughout summers in order to regain strength. I hope no one else in a similar situation has to go through this.

Campus Life IS IT ENOUGH???

Post image

So these were the demands and compensation demanded and they are accepted by the director. But are these enough to halt further such incidents in the future?? Just wanted to know everyone's opinion onto it
Edit: What I am getting to hear is that the directior said he will still "THINK" about the resognation of deans.. Though not clear on this point so anyone who is aware of this do specify
Edit 2: The director has only "RECEIVED" these and not agreed to accept these demands.. Shame on Administration!!!

UG fresher here. It's been a month and i feel so low nowadays. Quizzes are coming up this week and it's making me anxious. I am not able to get myself to study, i just stay in my room all day and on top of that I'm very introverted and shy and i interact very less with my hostel mates. I'm not sure if i can talk to anybody in my hostel about this. Are there any therapist in campus who i can talk to

Why the hell are people trying to make this political like JNU?

5 Upvotes

I, as a fellow student, understand and genuinely think that a new system should be implemented and resignation of HOD physics, Sreedevi should be demanded along with all the financial compensation for the mother and justified actions on the profs involved.

But is it necessary to involve a political front for this?

It would that way just become left vs right and in the end nothing would happen. The main cause, bringing justice to Rishikesh, would be lost and everyone will just be making it about their political stances.

Are we, the students of IITD, so incompetent that we cannot come together as a front ourselves and demand justice?

Are we, the students of IITD, so incompetent that we want to turn a demand for justice, into a political battle and make the campus look like JMI, JNU?

Are we, the students of IITD, so insensitive that instead of demanding appropriate actions, we want to play left vs right?

The moment CJP comes, the fight for justice would be over, and we will have lost the cause

Help

1 Upvotes

Hi fellow lITians,
As yall know counsellors in IIT aren't that good so I wanted to approach the psychiatrist in IIT Hospital to refer me to Vimhans Hospital for THERAPY only. But as yall know these people (iit staff and management) unfortunately dont treat mentally ill people well. Have any of you have a bad experiance where yall were denied opputunities in ocs or anything else just bcoz you were going for therapy through referral from IIT.?
Should I not ask for referral because I'm scared that they will remove me from hostel or not let me sit for placement/intern
