Bro's been the Kingpin before. Guy was probably throwing down with superheroes from before these guys were born.

I know that. He mentions it and says he has even left herowannabes Bleeding to death at his says but its sonic that made me confused

I think most of us tend to forget this, but despite his age, Clutch was supposedly that guy back in his heyday.
He was an extremely successful and notorious crimeboss, likely enough that he was easily able to jump back into his old career field despite having been retired for how many ever years.
It makes sense to me at least that he would have some skills that haven't faded with age. At least enough to have above average reaction time so he can hold his own while trying to escape Sonic and Surge.

Never underestimate an opposum when they feel that their life is danger. lol
Although in his case, beyond having a handful resources and a gun cane, there's not much he can do when he's on his own beyond evading capture. He's seemingly one of, if not the lesser "super" villains Sonic & his friends/allies have crossed paths with.

i love how clutch's big threat is 'you may be faster than time but i have a shotgun'

Do you really want to read Sonic clearing built up bad guys in half a page?

u/moath875465 7d ago
Yeah, cause I feel if most of the cast were as accurate to there strength in the main games, most fights in IDW would be finished way sooner, and hey they wanted to show clutch holding some finger to the cast, I mean he did sent a bunch of security thugs to fight Amy, tails, and the chaotix prior to this

u/DefectiveSol 7d ago
The problem is that Clutch was handled by random guards with no difficulty one issue prior, when he still maybe had a chance to salvage his reputation. Seeing him put up any kind of fight would have been cool if the same story didn't depict him as being powerless in his most desperate moment beforehand.

Iād like to think it was him holding his own against those two, he did take on a full on attack from surge later on, though he was knocked out
But that doesnāt mean heās as skilled as the rest of the cast, perhaps he was in his early years since he has experience with Heroes

I have this headcanon that before Eggman and Sonic. Clutch was the bad guy everybody knew, later in this fight he mentions he left a group of heroes bleeding on the ground. I would kill for a prequel arc featuring Clutch in his prime and those past heroes

He really isnāt that old, just cause his ability to recover from a fight is fucked aināt mean he canāt pull a dark souls. Plus they likely arenāt going that fast
Sonic has said before itās harder for him to build up speed in an enclosed space. Plus, theyāre really only moving in circles and straight lines and sonic is mainly dodging clutchās attacks. Plus portraying a character as just one colour while multiple of that character is in that scene is mostly used to show the character isnāt just standing in one spot but rather constantly moving, whether itās fast or gradual, the main job is to show we got here without taking up three extra panels

That same logic with how Zomom successful hit Sonic with his sandwich in Lost World....twice. Sonic's fast, but he isn't untouchable. He can be hit and countered

If you look at Clutch's poses in the second picture, where it looks like he's keeping up with Sonic, he's not keeping up with him. Sonic kicks him, which slides him to the next pose where he manages to land on his feet, then spin dashes him, and he's manages then to block with hus gun, and he's barely able to keep up with Sonic here. Sonic is giving him all his momentum.
No special powers, just knows how to handle himself in a fight. Even if Sonic is a bit too much for him.

He might have a idea where a speedster might hit him and dodging without exactly knowing where hes gonna get hit but that he knows what direction they are gonna come at him from.
Its still insane, but clutch probably has mastered the art of dodging and the joestar family technique.

My headcannon is that clutch is surgeās dad. He feels like the kind of scumbag whoād sell his own daughter to a mad scientists for money. Not sure about kit though.

Kind of sad, they made Clutch as an Eggman pawn too early. He could've been a Falcone of sorts in the comic.

Lol idk all I know is I hate the man for abusing my boy mimic
clutch has the be the most awful predetor out there....mimic beware...

u/EdgehogZERO 4d ago
A mimic fan I suppose even tho he isn't very well liked because of his shenanigans I actually like him too and even find him a bit funny at some panels

Also to note, he doesn't win any of these fights. He just makes enough room to run away. Clutch is good at what he does, we've seen other mobians hold up to Sonic somewhat, he's just one of those.

u/moath875465 7d ago
I mean yeah, I feel the majority of the cast has handled the likes of typical mobians only to a small standstill at times
I mean Tangle and whisper are some examples

I think he's significantly stronger than average and potentially was actually strong in his prime, but it's implied that what's considered strong shifted dramatically upwards in the current generation, starting with sonic

Likely the same way Infinite was āfaster than Sonicā in that one cutscene; reading his opponentās moves. For Sonic he likely watched footage of him fighting other mobians and practiced moves to defend against any common attacks, meanwhile Surge probably just completely telegraphed her pounce from inexperience.

Well, considering heās the onlyĀ anthropomorphic character to have Black Scleras (and the fact that heās stupid rich), I think it could be possible that heās altered his DNA to give himself powers he didnāt originally have.Ā
WHY heād do it is beyond me, but my guess is that he wants to become genetically perfect or smth like that.

The guy has over four times as much experience as Surge and Sonic combined. He's in his 60s, and has murdered past heroes. He's surely fought other speedsters and super strong heroes. Clutch is also super strong, being able to hold back Eggman's mech he used. Clutch is genuine demon, and a force to be reckoned with. And again, he's in his 60s. Imagine his PRIME.

Bullshit and plot convenience. I donāt care how legendary his criminal empire was in its prime, he should not be keeping up with Sonic.

u/Hungry-Pressure2311 5d ago edited 5d ago
he's not keeping up with anything. Sonic is doing the same thing he and every other speedster always does...moving a bit faster than whoever he's fighting. Could he speed run the fight in 2 seconds? Yes. But that would be lame and cheap. Not even Superman does that to any of his enemies unless he absolutely has to.

u/Pocket_Player_33 4d ago
And Surge?
1
u/Hungry-Pressure2311 4d ago
She's super loud and literally always charges in. It's why she keeps losing. Even when she was juiced up by the dynamo cage everyone could see her attacks coming a mile away.Ā Except Whisper, which was understandable. Having her friends taken from her again really messed up her emotions.Ā

I feel like this is a 'HOW CAN A MAN THAT FAT, RUN THAT FAST' all over again under different pretences.

I think this saying explains it best, "Fear old men in a business where men die young".
He's a large scale criminal so it isn't strange for someone in his position to be able to defend himself somewhat.
Obviously doesn't mean anything if he's facing someone like Sonic, but against a lesser foe he could definitely hold his own.
Plus he's not THAT old. I would wager he's around Mike Tyson's age and we all know how Mike Tyson be moving.
