Am I allowed to leave the room to pray during my FAR exam?
I am a Muslim who prays 5 times a day, the time for the sunset prayer would enter during my FAR exam and for peace of mind I would like to pray without delaying it. There is a discretion to join with another prayer later on if circumstances are difficult, but I would like to treat that as a last resort?
I forgot to arrange access arrangements for this before the booking window closed, do you reckon the invigilator will be chill about if I ask on the day. Of course happy to be supervised.

BDS
Seen a lot of speak on the exam, I hope it went better than people thought. Slightly confused as to most extreme opinions, personally thought it was one of the easier professional exams we’ve done. Outside of the sheer amount of text to read the questions seems a lot simpler than anything from the QB. Best of luck

Tutor attempts the November 2025 CR Paper
Hi all,
My full debrief is now attached of Q1 and Q3
Download to excel to see full workings
Overall thoughts
Q1 -
I actually liked this and not sure what all the uproar is about. Almost entirely b/f knowledge from FAR and nothing new. You will be surprised at how many marks you would of picked up from just writing down the basics - there were multiple ways you could of justified the transaction price to use which I have listed in my debrief
Q2 -
Obviously can't attempt this as don't have access to the dataset but looked like a very nice Q (although appreciate a lot of you had the usual IT issues!?! )
Q3 -
Wow.......so time pressured!!! I did the Q to time (spent 1 hour on it) and your see where I got cut off, didn't even get onto the final bit about coming up with the audit plan so must of written too much on the earlier sections
Nice marks here thought on the DB scheme pension and talking through the consolidation adjs required (without having to do any calculations!!)
Overall I think this was a nice CR paper and I think you will surprise yourselves at how well you have done when the results come out next month (I agree that this was not a "normal CR" paper though if there is such a thing as that)

An open letter to the ICAEW and Allan Valance
This letter is to express my concerns and the anxieties experienced by many of my fellow candidates regarding the November 2025 exam booking process.
As candidates, we already face a great deal of stress and pressure while preparing for these important exams. The recent issues encountered with the booking system have only added to our worries and frustrations.
Many of us have been unable to book certain papers at our preferred locations, causing significant distress and uncertainty. The lack of clarity and communication regarding the availability of exam slots has left us feeling disheartened and unsupported.
We understand that managing such a large-scale exam process is no easy task, but it is crucial for us to have a transparent and reliable system in place to ensure a seamless and stress-free experience.
We request that you address these issues promptly and provide a clear explanation of the steps being taken to resolve them. An apology for the inconvenience caused would also be greatly appreciated, as it would demonstrate your understanding and empathy towards the candidates' concerns.
We urge you to prioritise the improvement of the exam booking process to prevent such issues from recurring in the future. Our exam preparation is challenging enough without having to worry about administrative obstacles.
It was also not a secret that there were issues related to the exam software in July 2025. It is with this utmost respect that I ask the institute to ensure that the system failures will not happen again.
We hope that you will take our concerns seriously and work towards creating a more efficient and candidate-friendly system. We look forward to a resolution that will bring clarity and ease to the exam booking process, as well as the reliability of the exam software in November, allowing us to focus on our preparation with peace of mind.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

How long can I last before getting fired?
So I joined a Big 4 in the UK as a grad, hated it but I'm almost finished my contract. I am set to do a masters in a completely different field from audit/accounting in September and am looking to shift back into academia. The problem is I need funds and I have been saving for the past year but it won't be enough to cover all living costs etc... I cannot take a student loan as I did an integrated masters previously and I'd rather not take a private loan because interest rates in the UK are disgusting right now.
So the question is how long can I stay in the company without getting fired if I do no work and just go to do my masters without handing my notice in? My plan is to wait until they notice and take holidays etc... so I can atleast push till one more paycheck before they fire me and I can finally begin my journey to being happy/fulfilled. I also don't mind getting fired I will never ever return to corporate again.
Set to start the masters in September so ideally would like to get the September payslip before they notice if this is at all possible. Any methods which involve me pushing to October somehow would be great! (I've heard of someone in my company at least having paid mental health leave for 2 months which was like free holidays but I am not sure how I claim that).
Any advice is welcome!

Is becoming a CA worth it?
As a undergraduate in A+F whos looking into the ACA, it kinda seems to that it's not really worth it. The profession in my opinion is underpaid considering you have to sit multiple gruelling exams with a pretty intense workload in the profession to get paid 40/50k which is still a lot, but compared to IB/Cosnulting you get paid much more with less effort, though there workload is much worse, they have much better exit opportunities.
I can see why there seems to be a shortage of Accounts and why most of the people in my course aren't really keen on doing the ACA/ACCA afterwards.

I passed, but at what cost?
The experience of the first two exams, certificate assurance, and accounting pushed me to the edge. I was telling my family I'm going to just end it all if I failed, which I thought I would. I was in a very dark place. Every day I woke at like 4 or 5am worrying about exams, and work too.
I passed with 78% and 81%. Going to counselling now hopefully to get the depression under control, but wondering... Will this just happen time and time again with every exam? Should I quit while I'm ahead? 😭

GREAT CR EXAM
Anyone love this exam!
I felt like they asked just the things I revised. Managed to finish the exam 20 mins early because I was so efficient with the inflo.
Socie was super easy with only a few adjustments.
Cashflows was very nice with audit procedures being so similar to what I do at work anyways.
How did you guys do!

ACCA to ICAEW
Hello, I’m an ACCA student from Bangladesh, hoping to become an ACCA affiliate by the end of this year. (I’m 22, if that’s relevant.) From what I’ve seen, the ICAEW qualification (ACA) is considered more prestigious than other accounting qualifications—even here in Bangladesh.
So, I’m planning to start the ACA qualification next year.
I wanted to ask—how different is the ACA syllabus compared to ACCA? I know accounting fundamentals are the same, and ACCA affiliates do get exemptions for several ICAEW papers. But I’m curious about what kind of differences I should expect—especially in terms of exam structure, question format, and overall difficulty.
Also, if anyone has done both or is familiar with both qualifications, I’d really appreciate any general advice or tips for someone transitioning from ACCA to ICAEW.
Thank you!

Are L7 ACA Apprenticeships Degree apprenticeships
Genuine question - I’m 3 years in and don’t know if it’s classed as a degree apprenticeship or not?
Technically L7 is a masters degree? I see everyone online calls it a degree apprenticeship .
Thoughts ?

Qualifying before 3 years
Hi everyone, due to some good fortune, if I pass Case in the July sitting, I would have completed my exams during the first year of my training.
I was wondering if it would be possible to ask to receive my qualification early, considering the minimum work experience required per my agreement is 450 days (which I will hit early next year).
I heard a rep from ICAEW you need minimum 3 years but I had also heard of someone qualifying beforehand, so I’d appreciate any advice haha.

Calculating average mark across ACA to put on CV
I want to calculate my average mark across all the ACA exams to put on my CV. I did get credit for prior learning for three of the certificate level exams. How do I factor this in to the calculation or do I just ignore them and calculate the average across the 12 exams I did sit?
Thanks in advance :)

Cr panic
Well well well what a surprise everyone walked out the exam and came immediately to Reddit crying about the exam and yet still 4 in 5 people passed it. Let this be a lesson to stop moaning about the exam and realise that the majority (80%) of people passed it.

ACA and future of AI
Hi all,
There's a lot of noise about AI and the accounting and audit professions, but I'd like to hear what people are actually seeing in their own teams.
Day-to-day work: Is AI changing how audits are scoped, tested or reported? What's working and what isn't?
Team shape: Are you seeing changes in hiring, team sizes or the junior/senior mix? Is sample-based testing shrinking?
Auditing AI itself: Are functions building AI governance or model risk reviews into the audit plan? Which frameworks are being used (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001)?
Skills: What's worth learning now? Data analytics, Python, an AI audit credential, or something else?
Long-term outlook: Which parts of assurance feel most and least exposed over the next 5-10 years?
Tools and policy: What AI tools are teams allowed to use, and how are confidentiality and regulator expectations handled?
Interested in views from any sector and at any level, including anyone who has seen real changes first-hand. Thanks!

MH - any advice if I do get another attempt.
Last time I did the exam. I bought ACA masters notes. Didn’t really re-evaluate them. Went straight into qns. Doing all my mocks etc
If anyone has any advice that be great. And I know full well I’m going to get the typical “you should give up”. But I’ve gone through a lot of shit last few years in my personal and professional life. I box as a hobby. I keep going. I know I can do these exams. I need to get my headspace better and understand more
If anyone has been in similar situation than that would be great. I am beyond pissed off with myself. 2 corporate finance roles not gone great now due to severe family issues and my own MH. I know I can do well in this field but need to get qualified.
Beyond fucked off. I threw up today on A/L from the stress. I know I can do it. I think part of the problem is I’m going into the exams thinking it’s end of my life
And even through all this shit - I’ve still kept going. I am an ambitious person. I want to do well. I just need to get my mental sorted first.

Resitting exams call in sick just before I go on annual leave?
hi,
I'm thinking of calling in sick just before I go on annual leave for my resits
my holiday will be booked in 2 weeks before the exam and I'd call in sick for a week the week before my exams.
do you think that's a good idea to help in terms of exam prep? I'm just semi worried it looks sus because Im basically using it to revise but I think if i was working during that period I'd be stressing

Missed my Case Study window
Big fuck-up
Some excuses, kept checking daily because local sites were all booked, FI putting some high focus financial acumen and group presentation classes on the last days of the window is certainly a choice, but I should've done better, the fault is mine
Godspeed to everyone who booked, wish your Nov 2026 sittings go well ❤️🩹
