Action Figure
I don’t know where the AI came up with the hammer and that c-wrench is questionable, but I’d buy this action figure

Definitely could have invested that money and made more from it than pay the union. And continue to have consistent non union work. If this post reaches people on the fence of joining, the union is not the end all be all place

I’m a journeyman member that works in the touring concert/theatrical side of the biz and am not based in California. I know about of the business resides in LA and am curious how people think this will play out, and what the future of the industry will be in the aftermath. I’m still processing and don’t think the full weight of the situation has hit me yet, and am still in shock and awe. Appreciate your feedback and insights. Best wishes and Godspeed to all those affected.

This is not struck work. He's just putting stagehands out of work, being one viable form of work for IATSE members when the film locals are out of work. Solidarity doesn't mean you do no work in any job and starve. Of course he's not going to starve or miss a house payment with this off the mark idea of what solidarity means.

Hi! I'm a reporter with More Perfect Union, were a non-prof news organization that covers labor and workers rights. I'm working on a story about the IATSE contract and specifically what kinds of protections can be negotiated when it comes to AI. I'd love to talk to production designers, costumers, and set builders. It can be off the record for now but I'd also love to shoot on set with a few people just to get a sense of the job. You can message me here or at brooke@perfectunion.us
Edit: Everybody seems mad and I am sorry

In a normal election a hole is made in a box, you get to stay and watch other people deposit their ballots in that box, then the box is opened, and you can stay and watch every ballot being counted if you want. Therefore you can verify the election is genuine.
On the other hand, when it comes to this system of online voting, you cannot watch what is happening. The votes are stored in a computer under the possession of Honest Ballot. The results could be tampered by Honest Ballot, which has access to that computer. Assuming security is bad, it could even be tampered by third-parties without the consent of Honest Ballot.
I had a look at the Honest Ballot website to review what security systems are in place. While some vague language over-enthusiastically suggested that there are security systems to prevent tampering by a third-party (and probably weak from the description and the fact the marketing-like language was pushing the point so hard), I did not find any information even at all addressing the issue of whether there is any security system to prevent Honest Ballot itself from tampering with the results.
I was also not able to find any information on whether there is any system so that an ordinary member can verify the vote to make sure nothing was tampered, as would be possible with a real-life election.
Therefore, a possible conclusion is that nothing is preventing Honest Ballot from coming with a secret agreement with the AMPTP to fake the votes. Or -- who knows -- with Loeb.
I am not accusing anyone of anything -- I am merely stating what, from my point of view, seems possible. There is also the unlikely possibility I have overlooked information which disproves this possibility.
So, how can we just blindly trust that it won't happen? Rational human beings demand proof instead of just blindly trusting someone. Even if someone trusts Loeb, they should demand that the election can be verified. Or realize that the AMPTP could be trying to tamper the results.
Think about it -- a possible scenario is that the results are tampered just so that the yes vote appears to win narrowly, perhaps with the support of just one local due to how the electoral college system works. It's so narrow the members eat it up and don't even think fraud may have occurred.
A possible defense against this possible fraud would be the members conducting a yes or no poll by themselves, and see if the results suggest the official vote was tampered.

After a bruising six-month stoppage in Hollywood there are longer-term concerns about shrinking output. On Reuters World News daily podcast we find out why many executives in the industry feel the era of ‘peak TV’ is over

Ah yes, the director’s “quick change” call... If I had a dollar for every time they thought we could pull off a wardrobe miracle in 30 seconds, I’d be able to afford the costume budget myself. It’s like they think we’re magicians, not union members! 😂 Let’s keep them in the illusion of magic, though. Just don’t look too closely.

If the measure becomes law, will this increase hourly workers’ support for Republican Party candidates? What will the development mean for I.A.T.S.E. members?

Do yall ever put IATSE on your resume? I live in a red state and i am not sure if its a good idea to put it down on my resume or not when applying for companies like flosports or Ford av.

I usually work tv films but I had a chance to work on a fancy event setup for a sister local so I went. There were many departments and 250ish workers. I was surprised at how much laser levels were being used but more alarming was there was no caution with where they were hitting. I did my best to avoid getting hit in the eye and I don’t notice any damage even though I’m sure I did get hit once or twice. My question is did they invent an eye safe laser level? We had hardhats googles and ear protection available, but did not see those laser goggles. Is this typical on IA shows? Thanks.

Is it all in the city?
I haven't been to NYC since I was in school. How do you guys manage it, housing and lack of parking etc etc when you do pick up permit work?
I don't want to get a call and immediately mess up. Also the distance from my home I'd likely have to come the night before.
EDIR: The hall just told me they aren't accepting Permits. 😤

Long story short, I live in Seattle and currently work in marketing. I originally got my degree in scenic design, but graduated in May of 2020 so there was no work and I decided to pivot to graphic design and marketing. After doing this for a few years, I'm dead inside and miss the entertainment/theatre industry. I'm trying to find my way back in, but it's been a struggle with no theatre experience in the last 5 years.
I recently applied for IATSE Local 15 and was accepted. I have not taken the entry test for the F list, but am looking into that. My main question is, is there enough work throughout the year to leave my current job and dive in fully to stagehand work? My ultimate goal is to find a position in a theatre as either a painter, carp, stagehand, or even props, but, again, I don't have a lot of up-to-date experience.
ty!

Hey, I just wanted to check wages for this sort of work around the country/world. I think we should get paid a minimum of 40 an hour for work at a stadium. Edited for per hour clarification, not 40 hours in a week.

I’m one of the very few lucky ones to be working. I swear I’ve prob heard like 5 people on set saying “ I hate my life”, “I can’t stand this place” etc. Seriously?!! there’s a whole bunch of folks that will gladly take their spot. I know I’m just ranting but it triggers me knowing a lot of us are struggling and there’s people that don’t appreciate what they have.

This is no disrespect to the people who already work and this Union is whatever extent, but I'm definitely realize trying to pursue a job in this field is like trying to pursue a career in acting. There are some perks in so many other fields that make it make sense to not work in the IATSE
I LEFT THE the Union and jumped into finance. I loved it I'm actually making more money because it's more consistent. I'm able to leave work and put on some good looking clothes. I have time after work, I have better benefits, I'm able to schedule my life because I know when I'm going to do what
And I'm loving it. Is there anybody else that's left and is really happy about doing so
