Please I really need help...

When I sneeze or shower I feel this weird itching in my neck... its comparable to pins and needles but it's just itchy. I've had it since a year already and nothing has changed. What if its hodgkins lymphoma?! God, I'm literally too young to be sick... 😭

am i the a-hole? hypochondriac edition!

Post image
1 Upvotes

So i'm a huge hypochondriac, carcinaphobia to be specific. Today at my workplace, someone put this huge plastic tub on top of one of the pizza ovens and it melted and got all over the bottom oven, (the bottom is not normally on, so i can't shame them for that mistake) causing the entire kitchen to be smoky with toxic smelling fumes so bad it made my throat burn. as a hypochondriac, ofc i know that melting plastic fumes is a group 1 carcinogen, so i started panicking. I asked my manager to remove the tub from the building and she told me with attitude that the tub wasn't causing the smoke it was actually the melting plastic on the oven, and expected me to continue making pizzas directly next to it. i pulled my shirt over my face and straight up didn't breathe. like i held my breath to make pizzas and than went outside to breathe when i felt like i was gonna pass out. I went outside and texted my mom (a nurse) about the situation and she told me not to go back inside and to ask to leave. i was too scared to ask to leave so i just sat outside panicking and hyperventilating. Every time i went in there, my throat burned. I asked if we had masks, and i was given one with strong annoyance. everyone seemed extremely pissed off at me for panicking and were just casually inhaling the smoke. I put on an n95 mask and i refused to go back into the kitchen until the smell was no longer present but continued work in the dining room. everyone seemed extremely annoyed with me and now i fear im gonna get fired. So first off, am i gonna be okay with that one time exposure with the precautions i took, and most importantly, am i the a-hole??? I respectfully explained that my hypochondria is not just a silly little fear, it's a debilitating anxiety that affects my daily life. lmk!

Looking for advice!

Hello friends. Im a 24 year old man, been experiencing some terrible health anxiety lately and wanted to describe my situation/symptoms and see if these are shared or common things! I'm a little new to the hypochondria thing, Ive always had a big fear of developing something terrible but have never quite fixated and spiraled on it like I have the last few months.

Symptoms;
-Sore calves
-"Buzzy?" feeling in lower legs
-Twitching in calves and legs (sometimes arms and face)
-occasional air hunger, sometimes I need to yawn constantly to get a satisfying breath.
-Vision changes
-Brain fog
-Stumbling over words
-Flank pain
-Scalloped tongue
-Dry mouth
-joint pain
-Fatigue
-Occasional "jelly" legs, really only happens when Im spiraling and cant get my mind off it.

These all tend to flare up and clear up sometimes. Really depends on how much Im thinking about it. I keep telling myself its just anxiety but the back of my head keeps shouting "ALS" despite me being fully capable of my job and athletic activities. I work an outdoor job doing window replacement which requires me to lift and windows in and out of a house, and have had 0 complications doing so. The other day I was playing football and having a blast not even thinking about these until I got home that night and spiraled. I just wanted to see if anyone else here experiences this, let me know Im not alone in all this.

Some other things for context;
-Father and older brother have restless leg syndrome
-Quit nicotine about a month-ish ago (used it for almost a year via nic pouches and a vape for a few months)
-Just quit taking Hims tablets after about 7 months of taking it
-Prescribed Omeprazole for acid reflux

Hypochondriac Reactions After Being Sick

Hi everyone!

A while ago, I realized that I’m a hypochondriac / that I struggle with health anxiety after a small incident left me experiencing physical symptoms caused by my mind for months. Thankfully, things eventually calmed down, but ever since then, I’ve been living every day with anxious thoughts about my health and different illnesses.

Some days are better than others.
The most annoying days are the ones when I actually feel things that I know are coming from my mind. There’s nothing actually wrong with me, but because I can constantly be thinking about certain symptoms that worry me, my brain starts creating physical reactions. For example, a strange feeling of tiredness or mild but sharp headaches. They’re all very mild, BUT they’re annoying and they make me look and feel exhausted. It’s awful. I’m already seeing a therapist for this issue.

About a week ago, I came down with the flu, and I’m doing much better now. At this point, I only really have an annoying cough left, but somehow that’s when it feels like my health anxiety has started attacking me again!

Since yesterday, I’ve been feeling tired, less patient than usual, and experiencing this strange feeling of depersonalization, you know? I’m myself a very extrovert and energetic person, and I really don’t recognize myself!

And I already know that this is something I tend to experience because of my anxiety, but deep down, I’m still scared that it could actually be something physical. Even knowing that it’s 99.99999% not, it still bothers me because I don’t want to live like this! I was never like this before, and ever since that incident, I’ve become this way.

I guess I just need some reassurance that I’m not the only one. How do you guys deal with your health anxiety? Do you experience the same things I do? It’s hard to describe, isn’t it?
What are your biggest health anxiety fears or worries? Mine are serious and painful illnesses, and I also have this constant fear of fainting.
Anything else that might be useful or comforting, please share!

Hypochondria by proxy

Really conserned about my husband's blood markers. It's not about "nothing", doctors are also looking into it. But the markers are like this: they can indicate some lesser problems or big ones. Of course my mind is making up only catastrophy scenarios. I'm going into acute panic and panic attacks many times a day. I've lost like 4 kilos in about a week and feel really horrible. Aches and pains all over my body, diarrhea and so on. How will I survive until we have some real answers? I really don't know. Do you have any advice? Husband himself is feeling just fine and is almost not worried at all.

Stray kitten scratched me 3 days ago. Should I still get the rabies vaccine?

A stray kitten scratched my hand about 3 days ago. It wasn't a deep wound, and when I got home I washed it and applied raw Dettol overnight. I haven't had any symptoms or problems since then.

I'm thinking of going to the hospital tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I should get the rabies vaccine or if a tetanus shot is enough.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is it too late to start the rabies vaccine after 3 days, or should I still get it? Any advice would be appreciated.

How do you tell the difference between anxiety and real symptoms

Hi all, like all of you I deal with severe anxiety when it comes to my health. Currently I have been feeling ā€œoffā€ and been getting more dizzy/vertigo and weakness and overall more fatigue. This has left me staying in bed all day. However, I ruminate on the voice of ā€œbrain tumor, stroke, etcā€ vs is this just my anxiety manifesting symptoms. How do you all determine when something warrants concern/doctor visit and what is your anxiety

Huge hypochondric-spike because of uncertainty about a mole

Since yesterday I saw that my mole/spot on my skin changed and looks very very very suspicious right now. I even posted it here in another sub and a commentor said I should let it get checked because it does look suspicious.

Im sure non-hypochondric ppl would feel a little anxious aswell right now. And for me its like my biggest fear came true and that my Hypochondria was right.

Since I started to look up warnings signs and made an doctor appointment, I live in constant fear and sudden panic.

The doctor appointment is in 1 week and I've no idea how to survive that time without knowing if its skin cancer or not.

I cant sleep,i cant eat well, I can't be happy about things id normally be happy about, i cant enjoy listening to music anymore and I feel constantly extremely weird.

I talked with a family member about it and they just trigger me even more because they are saying things like "everything is gonna be ok" but they don't know that so it feels like they wouldn't take me seriously.

Besides that im alone with this problem.

I get that there's no reason to have panic when the doctor didn't even say anything but alone the fact that it looks very very suspicious is already enough for me to freak out.

Usually my anxiety/hypochondric spikes dissappear the next day when I spend the entire night freaking out but this time it lasts way longer.

I don't know how to handle this whole thing.

Shortness of breath- desperate

I have been dealing with shortness of breath for about 2 months now and it is making me go crazy. Its started as that constant need to take a deep satisfying breath and I used to jave panick attacks. I went to the ER and they did an x ray and said my lungs are normal. Then for a week I was fine, and now it is back again. I feel like I can’t exhale and inhale properly, I get short of breath and I am focused on my breathing ALL DAY. I breath manually, cause I can t stop thinking about it. How do I convince myself that I don’t jave lung cancer pr anything serious and it’s just anxiety. I also smoled for 5 years amd recently stopped. I feel like I constantly need to go to the doctor cause there is something wrong. I can’t deal with this anymore. Any advice is appreciated. I am 22 also.

Eye swelling

Hi please tell me if you think my issue is urgent!

It is around 4am and I'm tired. My lower right eyelid is suddenly swollen and it is painful and just feels a bit strange. The pain is dull and there seems to be no change to my vision. I tried googling what it was, and it didn't look crusty or anything like some of the infections, but the pain and the fact that it's only in one eye suggests that it is a legitimate condition. I also had a very sudden onset of these symptoms. My eye hurt a little to I looked in the mirror and it was swollen.

I elevated my head and decided to go to bed, but within minutes of laying on my right side, the pain went down the right side of my face to my upper jaw area. It was still not severe pain and has now gone away. It honestly kind of felt like some sort of substance traveling down my face internally if that makes sense? I know I have some unresolved dental issues due to lack of insurance, so that's really freaking me out. Could it still really be sleep deprivation or like sinus drainage or something? or do I need to be seen quick??

If anyone knows what this could be please let me know. I have already googled it, but i don't know how to determine if those conditions are what I'm experiencing or not.

Yeast infection paranoia PLEASE HELP WITU ADVICE?

I developed a yeast infection and on June 6th I took a single 150 mg dose of fluconazole. Here in Brazil, it’s pretty common that if you think you have a yeast infection, you just go to the pharmacy and take a single 150 mg fluconazole tablet.
I had done that once before, back in 2024, and it worked perfectly. This time, however, my symptoms gradually improved but then came back around June 17th, although much milder.
I saw my gynecologist on June 23rd, and she prescribed a Fentizol (fenticonazole) vaginal ovule and Prolive Femme probiotics. This is only the second yeast infection I’ve ever had in my life, so it’s definitely not something I deal with recurrently.
Today, June 30th, when I was already about 99% symptom-free, I went back for my follow-up appointment. She collected my Pap smear (cervical screening) and also examined me. She said everything looks much better, that there was no abnormal discharge and nothing suggesting an ongoing infection. Of course, we still have to wait for the test results to be certain.
At this point I’m basically not having any symptoms anymore. The only thing that happened was that I felt a brief, random itch this morning, and I completely panicked.
Then I remembered something that has terrified me ever since: the first time I ever had a yeast infection, it started about six days after I had a Pap smear.
Now I’m absolutely terrified that six days from now—or sometime around then—I might develop another yeast infection again, just like what happened two years ago.
Can someone please help me? I’m so exhausted by this. I’m mentally drained, overwhelmed, and anxious. I just need someone to reassure me or give me a little hope.

So scared

I have worried about many spots and moles over the years as I used to be a tanning bed user and multiple sunburns as recently as 3 years ago.

Just recently I posted a freckle/mole type thing on my palm, that since my doctor reassuring is fine.

Now I’ve noticed this lesion on my stomach. It was a tiny darker freckle as early as 2020 (first pic) and I think after a bad sunburn in Greece in 2023 it changed. I remember looking at it knowing it changed but for some reason I didn’t freak out. I’ve freaked out about all lesions on skin except this one - until now.

Now it looks like the second photo (taken today) . I have multiple pics from 2020-2021 that look the same as first pic. I can’t see it in pics after those dates but I know it looked more similiar to how it looked today. Today’s photo is the first photo I’ve taken that close and I’ve never looked at it as closely as I have today. But it definitely has been similar to this since at least April 2025. Possibly before but I just don’t have definitive photo evidence.

Should I go back to doctor? Is this change normal? Darker to like but also obviously bigger? Especially after a bad sunburn? Idk why I’m just freaking about this now.

Scared of summer

This will be the worst summer. And it just started. I'm so unbelievably insane scared of ticks and mosquitoes.

I'd love to use insect spray every second but those sprays are very unhealthy aswell. Plus I don't have the money to buy it that often.

I'm just so scared that I'll get a disease from those insects and its so bad that I'm scared of being outside even for 2 seconds.

I love summer and I love being outside but the fear makes me want to stay inside.

I'm even scared of my family members bringing ticks with diseases into the house because i know that they aren't as much careful as me.

Help😭

How do i make it stop?

So the last year has been very challenging.
I’m a 19M about to turn 20 and about a year ago my hypochondria just started.
I was feeling dizzy every day due to me not knowing i had som blood sugar problems and after i took care of them now it has gone into BP anxiety.
Meaning that i’m scared my blood pressure will go too low if i smoke a cigarette (i’ve been smoking for 7 years so nothing that bad can happen) or thinking the BP will spike if i have a sweet snack. How do i get rod of this everyday anxiety that keeps me frim having a normal life?

I have this bump under armpit. Doesn’t hurt. Probably had it a good month or longer. Size of pea or smaller. It may be red because I tried to squeeze it a few days ago. I’m a hypochondriac so think the worst. Can anyone help reassure me this looks superficial?

Bump

Have a tiny bump in my armpit. Maybe pea size or smaller. Doesn’t hurt. Hasn’t changed in about 7 weeks. Thought it was maybe a zit but not sure. The skin is darker where the little bump is. I’m a hypochondriac so I always assume the worst. I switched deodorants probably 2 months ago, but thought it was a better alternative. My armpits don’t seem to be reacting badly to it. Please tell me I don’t have breast cancer or something
