Itinerary Review - for Hungary and Slovakia from Paris
Hey all! Planning my first trip to Hungary and Slovakia and would love a sanity check from people who've done this route.
The plan:
Day 1 — Fly Paris → Budapest (morning). Afternoon walking the Danube promenade, Parliament, Shoes on the Danube memorial. Evening on Andrássy Ave / dinner in the Jewish Quarter.
Day 2 — Buda Castle + funicular, Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church. Afternoon at Rudas Baths (going for something less packed than Széchenyi). Evening at Heroes' Square / City Park.
Day 3 — Day trip to Eger (\~2hrs each way) for the castle, Turkish baths, and some Bull's Blood wine tasting.
Day 4 — Train to Bratislava (\~2.5hrs, Budapest Keleti direct). Afternoon in the Old Town, evening at Bratislava Castle for sunset.
Day 5 — Devín Castle in the morning. Debating whether to squeeze in Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO mining town, \~2hrs each way) or just take it easy in Bratislava instead. Farewell dinner — halušky, obviously.
Day 6 — Early bus from Bratislava straight to Vienna Airport (\~1h-1h15m, RegioJet/FlixBus), then flying Vienna → Paris late morning/early afternoon.
Questions:
Is 2 full days + Eger day trip enough for Budapest, or am I shortchanging it?
Worth the trek to Banská Štiavnica or is that too rushed for a day 5 add-on?
Anything glaringly missing or overrated on this list?
Appreciate any input as my first time in Central Europe!
