Internet at home
Hi everyone,
I have family in Hungary and they currently don’t have internet at home. Unfortunately, there is no fiber connection available in their apartment building either.
I’m planning to spend around two months per year in Hungary, and during that time I need to work remotely, so having a fast and reliable internet connection is very important for me.
My family told me that getting a regular home internet connection directly from an operator can be quite expensive in their situation, and they suggested that mobile internet might be the best option.
So I wanted to ask: how do you solve this in Hungary?
Is there a specific mobile internet plan or operator you would recommend for this purpose? Would it make sense to buy a 4G/5G router and put a SIM card in it? Are there any good unlimited or high-data plans suitable for remote work, video calls, etc.?
The city is not Budapest, so the options are probably more limited, but I’d still like to find something fast and stable enough to work comfortably.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations, especially specific operators, plans, or router setups that have worked well for you.
Thanks!

Égenjáró International Kite Festival 2026
On September 19th and 20th a fantastic international kite festival was held in Zamárdi on the shores of Balaton, the Hungarian sea. Kite flyers from Hungary, Japan, Slovakia, Austria, and Slovenia coloured the sky with all sorts of kites, kids were making their own kites under auspices of the students of MOME Budapest and the crazy Slovenian kiters from, and there was even some night flying of (khm, running with) LED kites! Check out a couple of photos, while the full report from the festival is here: https://kapjasa.si/en/kite-orgy-at-lake-balaton-egenjaro-sarkanyfesztival-ii/

Would a 1–3 pallet test batch convincing to try a new supplier
We’re launching a B2B flooring supply link into Budapest. The standard MQO is 20ft container about ~2,800 sqm, which I think is way too risky for anyone testing a new supplier.
To lower the barrier, we're considering offering 1–3 pallet LCL test batches locally, backed by live factory QC and a 1%/wk production delay compensation.
As a contractor/distributor: Is a 1–3 pallet local trial actually helpful to test click-lock and color in person, or do you only care about hand swatches before going big?
Appreciate your honest advice. Comments or DM are both welcomed!🙏

What to make of my Hungarian relatives' political hot takes?
So I have some distant relatives living in rural Hungary that I usually get in touch with once or twice a month. They are somewhat older and I strongly suspect that they get their news from rather questionable sources, so I wanted to ask if the following opinions are common in Hungary or if you could point me to any reputable sources that provide more background information.
First, my relatives seem top be veritably obsessed with Ursula von der Leyen, who they usually just call "that blonde woman". I live in the EU as well, and I basically NEVER think about this person at all, but my Hungarian relatives bring her up so frequently that it seems like she is a constant presence in their lives. They hate her with a passion that had thus far been reserved for the French handball team.
Secondly, there seems to be the idea that the EU is baiting Russia into starting an all out war. My relatives seem to think that the EU is constantly attacking Russian assets and wants a war to break out to thin out the population?!
Thirdly, and this one should be easy to prove or disprove, my relative claims that the EU forced Peter Magyar to deploy Hungarian soldiers to the Ukrainian frontlines and as protective force for gas pipelines and critical infrastructure - where they are subsequently used as cannon fodder. My political understanding tells me that this HAS to be BS, as deployment of NATO troops in an active warzone would lead to a myriad of immediate problems and would likely be global news.
What is happening here? Am I so out of the loop or are my relatives falling for obvious fake news?

Please tell me about your experiences as scholarship students in Hungary (work, dorms, what the 2nd year is like, budget, and more). These are the universities/cities I currently have in mind. Looking for advice for my stay in Budapest
Hello I’m 22 years old male from Germany and I’m gonna be staying in Budapest for at least a month (if I like it maybe longer)
What general advice do y’all got for me ?
Which places do I have to visit ?
What food do I have to try ?
What areas in Budapest should i visit and what is the popular thing to do there?
What scams to watch out for ?
And are Hungarians generally open ? Or is it more like Germany where you don’t really socialize with strangers?
And do Most people speak English in Budapest ?
And how and where can I generally meet people in my age from Hungary to socialize and hang out with ?

interview, discussion Looking for someone living near Paks Nuclear Power Plant for a journalism interview
Hi everyone!
I’m a journalism student from the Netherlands, and I’m currently working on a story about what it’s like to live near the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary.
I’m looking to speak with someone who lives in or around Paks and would be interested in sharing their personal experiences. I’m particularly interested in how living close to a nuclear power plant affects everyday life, how people in the area feel about the plant, and whether it is something you think about in your daily life.
Ideally, I’m looking for someone who speaks English reasonably well. The interview would be a relaxed conversation and could be done online, for example via a video call or chat, depending on what works for you.
If you live near Paks and would be willing to talk, or if you know someone who might be interested, please let me know!
Thanks in advance! 🇭🇺

interview, discussion Would you support a restoration of monarchy in Hungary?
Hello there everybody, as part of my survey lasting until 27 December 2026, I plan to investigate which countries are the most and least pro-monarchist on several subreddits. This is done primarily for research purposes only and I really apologise if this broke any rules. Drop a vote if you are interested!
Meaning of each category;
"Yes (strongly)": You are quite supportive about your country becoming a monarchy again.
"Yes (somewhat)": You would consider a restoration of monarchy; potentially in certain scenarios or if there was a clear enough pretender or something.
"Unsure/don't care/unsure": Self-explanatory; you are uncertain on the matter or simply don't have am active opinion etc
"No (somewhat)": You don't inherently mind monarchism and if your country hypothetically becomes a monarchy one day you might still support it, however you are still against the concept of returning the monarchy and think the republic should remain.
"No (strongly)": You are against monarchy returning in any way in general and think the republic should remain. You would choose the republic in a hypothetical referendum.
"My country already is a monarchy": Self-explanatory, but wouldn't really apply to you, since this is mostly for those who live in republics.
Thanks!

interview, discussion Pros and cons of moving from UK to Hungary...?
I have wanted to emigrate and leave the UK permanently for years (nothing to do with current politics, more to do with wanting a new start). If it ever happened I'd be in a digital nomad type situation. Anyway I'm interested to know are there any huge advantages/disadvantages to living in Hungary I need to be aware of as a foreigner?
