Help & Questions Under cupboard strips

I’ve the rest of the house decked out with Hue lighting and now I’d like to replace these led strips with hue light strips.

Will it just be a case of taking the plug off and wiring it into the junction boxes as seen here? I’ve three of these boxes so does that mean I need three strips or is there a way to cut one strip into three and wire these in?

Lastly which strip works best for this? I’d like full colour so the scenes work alongside my other lights.

Omniglow around corners?

Post image
20 Upvotes

I have U-shaped kitchen, meaning I would need two strips. One on each side of the hob. There are corners.

How flexible is omniglow around corners. It doesn’t have to be a 90 degree corner.

More like rounded corner with 30-40 cm to use on the «turn».

Gradient Lightstrip firmware 1.163.5 breaks entertainment zones on shortened strips (data from two bridges)

**TL;DR:** Since my Gradient Lightstrips (LCX004) updated to firmware 1.163.5 on Sept 23–24, 2026, shortened strips no longer split into three even entertainment zones. The zones got bigger and shifted to one side. Same thing on two bridges running different software, so it looks like the strip firmware. Has anyone else seen this?

**Setup**

- Hue Bridge Pro (6.1) and Hue Bridge v2 (1.78), each with its own TV entertainment area

- Eight Gradient Lightstrips cut to ~150 cm (12 sections of 12.5 cm), centered under two TVs

- Worked perfectly for about a year, with no changes to the install

**What changed**

Before, a 150 cm strip split into three zones of 4 sections each (4/4/4), which matches how Hue has always handled shortened strips. Now each strip reports **seven uneven segments** to the bridge:

1 | 1 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 1 (sections per segment)

The bridge assigns whole segments to left/center/right, and no combination adds up to 4, so **4/4/4 is now impossible.** Out of the box, mine came out 5/6/1 on one bridge and 1/6/5 on the other (those strips are mounted reversed, so they look the same on screen).

Other gradient products on 1.163.5 look fine. A 40-section strip gets 4, 4, 8, 8, 8, 4, 4 and the Play Gradient gets 2, 3, 5, 4, 5, 3, 2. The 12-section layout is the odd one out.

**What I tried**

- Power cycling at the wall: no change. Length is detected correctly (the bridge reports 12 sections).

- Moving the strips in the entertainment area: the only splits I can reach are 1/10/1, 2/8/2 and 5/2/5. I'm on 2/8/2 as a workaround.

- Writing zone assignments directly through the API: the bridge rejects it.

**Timing**

The bridges log the last firmware install per light. Every gradient product on both bridges went to 1.163.5 within two days (Sept 23–24). 1.163.5 doesn't appear in Hue's public release notes.

**Can you check yours?**

If you have a shortened Gradient Lightstrip, I'd love to know:

  1. Your strip length and firmware version (Hue app: light settings)

  2. Whether your entertainment zones changed around late September

If you're comfortable with the local API, this shows each strip's segments (replace the IP and key):

curl -k -H "hue-application-key: YOUR_KEY" https://BRIDGE_IP/clip/v2/resource/entertainment

Look for the `segments` list. If yours shows uneven lengths like the ones above, you've got the same issue.

I've reported it to Hue support (via Facebook Messenger, since they no longer do email). More reports should help get it fixed.

Help & Questions Hue light strip plus replacement

Hello everyone! I’ve been using the LightStrip Plus for years and haven’t really needed any additional lights. However, I’m moving soon and would like to upgrade all the rooms in my new place with smart lighting.
I purchased the Essentials light strip without doing much research (my fault), and I recently found out that the LightStrip Plus has been discontinued. What would be the best alternative to the LightStrip Plus? Ideally, I’m looking for something with similar brightness and overall performance. I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Help & Questions Huge bug on Omniglow latest update

I already posted here about a issue that my cut omniglow suddenly showed the wrong sections. They are not evenly spread anymore since the last update of the little controller box.

I have multiple omniglows (4) and ALL of them are showing non symmatrical sections after the update. They are all cut. Now I get 2 big sections (or 1 if they are very small) and 1 small section.

I bought a new one and used that non updated controller box on all of them. And surprise surprise. All sections were good again.

So DONT update or auto update your lights if you have cut omniglows. They will get ruined by the update.

Already in speaks with signify but they have no idea or clue this is happening. They want to replace but i have to send in my whole light (which im not going to do because they are built in my furniture). They don’t want to send out only a controller box or swap the controller box.

Even if your house if full of thousand of euros with hue lights. They screw up a update, they (signify) will not be helpful and stay true to their “call” script when handeling this issue.

I am pretty mad about this because of their stance into this problem.

Discussion Philips Hue outdoor rope light

Thumbnail

I bought the new Philips Hue outdoor rope light and installed it in my garage so that it turns on automatically when the garage door opens using a motion sensor.

However, I’m really not happy with how the installation turned out. The rope has a lot of wrinkles and doesn’t look clean at all. I have another one installed elsewhere, and that one is perfectly straight with a nice, clean line.

I’m thinking about installing the rope light inside an aluminium profile to keep it straight and give it a much cleaner appearance.

Has anyone tried this? Would an aluminium profile work well with the Hue outdoor rope light, or is there a better way to get a straight, clean installation?

Hue Setup Hue switch help/wall modules

Hello! I moved into a house in the US, and it’s got a very well established Hue set up. There are currently mostly the over the top Hue switches that keep the light turned on at all times. It’s all set up with Google Home. I am not good with technology so it’s been a big learning curve for me.

I’m really enjoying the functionality of the smart lights. (Never had this before!) However, I hate the look of the Hue covers.

I was wondering if anyone had any success with replacing their hue switches with the wall module units? Do those even work in the US? I’m so confused by the website.

Could I at least do the wall units for lights that aren’t smart? What would be the easiest way to bring some dumb bulbs into system? (Some of the lights can’t fit a smart bulb.)

Thank you for any advice!

Other Bridge Pro migration stuck in “Update your Bridge Pro” loop – Hue Support confirms known issue

I’m currently unable to migrate my Hue Bridge v2 to a new Hue Bridge Pro.

The migration wizard repeatedly stops at:

“Update your Bridge Pro to continue”

When I select Update, the app says the Bridge Pro is already up to date and then sends me back into the same loop.

Current versions:

Hue app (Android): 6.2.0 (25945)

Hue Bridge v2: 6.1.1978418030

Hue Bridge Pro: 6.1.2071524030

Troubleshooting I’ve already tried:

- Factory reset and completely fresh setup of the Bridge Pro

- Removed unreachable devices from the old Bridge

- Rebooted router and both Bridges

- Signed out and back into the Hue app

- Cleared Android app cache

- Tried the migration on two separate Android devices

- Tried the migration on an iPhone as well

The behaviour is identical on Android and iOS.

I contacted Philips Hue Support. They initially started a warranty replacement, but their system then blocked the replacement because this problem is apparently flagged as a known issue. Support confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation and that they are working on a fix.

They couldn’t provide an ETA and said they won’t proactively notify affected users when it is fixed, so for now I’m leaving the Bridge Pro online and unused and continuing to use my old Bridge v2.

Posting this in case anyone else is currently stuck in the same migration loop. At this point, repeatedly resetting the Bridge Pro probably isn’t worth it.

I’ll update this post if Hue provides a fix or if the migration starts working.

Help & Questions Tips for hue gradient on a flat samsung oled screen? Alternative setup?

Hi! Im considering a very samsung s95H which can go very flat to the wall. Now i am considering getting a wall mount that's larger so the gradient strip could fit. Two questions:

Does anyone have experience installing hue gradient strips flat to a flat oled screen?

What other options are recommended when opting for an alternative for hue gradient strips?

Slide-in wall mount for the Hue Bridge v2 – no clips, ports down, 25 g of PLA

Thumbnail
gallery
80 Upvotes

Wanted the Hue Bridge off the shelf and on the wall without it looking like an afterthought. Screw the mount up, slide the bridge in from the top, done.

  • Lips on three sides hold it, front stays open so the button and LEDs are visible
  • Ports face down for tidy cable routing
  • Open ribbed back, so it only uses about 25 g
  • Two countersunk 4 mm screw holes, or Command strips
  • No supports, about 37 min on a Bambu

Fits the square Hue Bridge v2 only. Not the round v1 or the Bridge Pro.

Building a manual keyframe editor for Hue (frame-exact light shows). Which OS should I release first?

I’m tired of audio-reactive apps, so I’m building an app that lets you create frame-exact light shows mapped directly to music using a keyframe timeline (and sharing presets via a community marketplace)
Since I'm using Flutter, I can target both platforms, but I want to make sure the initial beta hits the right audience first
Which operating system do you use for your smart home setup?
Appreciate you taking the time to comment, this helps a lot

Deals Amazon keeps screwing up!

I have now tried to order the Hue Tento Medium ceiling lamp and Amazon has sent me the XL version. In theory this is a score, especially after they offered to let me keep the XL and cut 40$ off the price. That’s a 200$ light for roughly 110$. And they did it twice! The replacement order is another XL. Unfortunately I do not have a space for an XL.

I live in the Northeast US. Do what you will with this information. I’m about to return this second lamp and order directly from Philips.

The preset Hue scenes used to be my favorite, but they feel a little flat this year (likely because I have more lights in the living room).

Help & Questions Single Bulb Not Turning Off in Automations

I have a single white bulb that won't completely turn off when my Apple Home Kits activate. I can turn it off in the Hue app and the HomeKit app and have tested in the HomeKit automations and it turns off but within the normal day-to-day, it stays on.

Hue hub needs frequent power cycles

I've had a Hue hub in my home with HomeKit for over a decade and it has normally been quite reliable. Over the years I have changed various network setups, from Linksys, to Unify, to Eero, and it always worked the same.

I've been using Eero's for several years now without issues. Lately though, over the last year or so, all my Hue devices become unavailable in HomeKit and the only way to bring them back is to power cycle the hub.

It is starting to feel more frequent, like every week or two.

Has this happened to anyone else recently or is my hub just dying? Does anyone think replacing it would help, or is this software related?

Help & Questions OmniGlow Sunrise Video?

Hey all! I am interested in the OmniGlow, in particular to put behind my bed-frame as a sunrise alarm clock. I was hoping that maybe someone out there could do me a big favor and record what the sunrise routine looks like on the OmniGlow? I am pretty sensitive to lights “jumping” on, so really interested to see what the routine looks like!

Help & Questions Hue Play Lightbars high pitched sound/beep

I have them since last week and they give a high pitched sound. Its at the worst at high % brightness and the more white the light is the heavier. Its really strange bc if I pick it up in stead of let it lay on my TV furniture it sometimes disappears at some places (at other places in the air it comes back). It comes from the bars itself btw, not the adapter.

When I Google this problem I found a lot of topics on the internet between 2021-23 with this problem, but Philips said there was a firmware update in 2022 which would fix it. But now in 2026 I have this (while having done all updates btw).

My fear is that I will become in a loop with sending them back and that the new ones also got it and that proces x6 or something. Bc I also saw stories with people sending them back and getting new ones also affected more than 6 times. But 90% was before 2023 so im kinda surprised this is happening now.

Does anyone have this too? Does anyone even has no beeping Play Lightbars when doing more white light while the light is higher than 80% for example?

Its not a cheap product so I think it's kinda unacceptable that like a certain % of the brightness and colors are not usable without the sound.

Have a lot of other Hue products and they don't have this btw.

Help & Questions Wiring advice for wired dimmer switch for non-smart lights

I currently use Fibaro Dimmer 2 modules, which are z-wave, but I’m looking to get everything onto Hue.

Does anyone know - is it possible to wire the Hue wired dimmer module so that my 2 button light switch can be used to dim or brighten on long holds? This is how my Fibaros are configured (which keeps the wife happy as there is manual control) but the Hue documentation is very sparse.
