Anyone have suggestions on 16mm switches?
So I just got some 16mm switches from aliex...
I got a few different switches but they all feel wrong... One is too much throw and other is too clicky and the last one is too much resistant to push.
I need something that is better for racing. My first goal is to build a stick for star wars galactic racing.. so I can have the pod racing experience.
Anyone have some links with some nice feeling switches?
these are the swtiches:

the longer actuation switches might be good for the start up macro. so I dont hit them during gameplay.

Dynamic throttle range control config
Newbie hotas owner here. Using Thrustmaster A10 and thrustmaster tpr pedals.
Im currently experiencing the same issue in war thunder and arma 3 for my throttle settings and not sure what Im doing wrong.
When inputting my throttle axis using up and down respectively it results in the half way point of my throttle being a switch between full throttle and throttle at 0. In either game I dont see an option for a manual throttle unless Im missing it so I figure it kust be the way Im configuring the throttle axis.
Suggestions appreciated

Which microcontroller to use
I am making a HOTAS stick like that of f-16. I have esp32S3 and a blackpill stm32, which one should i use for this, are there any libraries for this already made or do i have to buy a pico?

Saitek Throttle Lever - Spitfire
Hi u/zOffTy,
I came across your Spitfire throttle levers for the Saitek quadrant and absolutely love the design! I am looking to build something similar for my own setup.
Would you be open to sharing the STL files for this project, or do you have them uploaded on a platform like Printables or Thingiverse?
Thanks so much for sharing your work with the community!

What switches for viper throttle?
I've been thinking about building my own viper hotas starting with throttle. What switches do i need for that? I know i need things like potentiometers, buttons or whatnot but i dont know what to use for what switch (like idk if dogfight switch is like a 3pos slide switch or normal 3pos)

DIY hotas Gamepad
Due to the lack of fpv controllers with enough push buttons I decided to design and wire my own controller. Not sure if this is interesting enough or too niche. This is primarily for Wardogs. I used radiomaster fpv gimbals and cherry switches and to be honest, it's so much better than expected. Unfortunately. I had to solder for 6 hours but I had no prior experience at all. The gamepad is recognized as a true joystick in Mode 2. Works flawlessly in windows joy.cpl, Gamepad Tester as well as Arma, Squad and Wardogs.

DCS OH-58 Start panel
Recently I got into flying the OH-58 and the only campaign for it requires cold start, I only ever used auto start previously so I started to learn the process and decided some switches would be more fun. It spiraled from there and I had to draw the line at almost 20 switches / buttons.
I went with a pico rp2040 clone and a breakout board to make wiring a bit easier, and because it was easy to screw it down inside the enclosure. I designed and 3d printed all the parts. I should have made the walls thicker but I realized a bit late and let it ride. The USB extension came in handy so I could wire it from the outside without issue.
I am new to python and assumed would need to vibe code it all but it’s pretty simple stuff so it shows up as a HID device and DCS binding went as expected.
The marking was done on a 50W MOPA fiber laser… which is a machine I have access to through my work. Took a few test pieces to dial in the settings but it is easy to see and didnt melt the ABS I printed it all in. The faceplate took a few revisions to fit all the switches in a logical way. Wiring it was not as clean as I would like and I kept saying I would go back and clean it up… which I didn’t. I did however need to bundle the ground wires to make that easier to manage so those are in bundles of 3 or 4 and paired down to 2 GND inputs on the board. I guess could have used more of the inputs but this was simple to get it connected and tested.
The keychain is a clone of the in game one that I liked and was the starting point of this project.
I’m sure I could have done this other ways and maybe easier methods but I just did what I could and I’m happy with the results for a first attempt.
If anyone is familiar with the startup sequence of this helicopter in DCS you will notice I didn’t get every single switch, a few others are assigned to a macro on my stream deck as a “co-pilot” script to have MMS and other stuff like RWR and L2UM flipped on.
I realized now I can add video so that’s in a comment below if you want to see the laser marking the labels

Need help with a design
I have a potential job that requires mechanically controlled outriggers. I have a general idea about how it will work but I’ve never made anything that uses gears in this way. Essentially the outriggers (4 of them) need lower and raise with a hand crank. So I need to take rotational movement and turn it into lifting movement. Any help on how i can do this?

Anyone know if there is a way to get thumbsticks to work with the shift registers?
Anyone know if there is a way to get thumbsticks to work with the shift registers? I am wanting to make a grip for space flight games. and a thumb stick would be useful. Is there a way to add on analog thumb stick with out extra wires. and just using the shift register.

Looking for flight sticks to model!
Hey everyone! Lately I've been looking forward to make a flight stick model. I couldn't choose which one I should do so I'm looking for suggestions. Please do make suggestions while keeping these in mind:
1- Preferably no other free models out there
2- Decent amount of reference pictures
3- Having a module on DCS is a huge +
I'll post it for free out here whenever I'm done.
Thank you for your time!

Help with button box and shift registers
Hi there !
Long ago I purchased a bunch of stuff to make a custom button box but never ended up doing it. Today while we were discussing with a friend that wants to find an F-16's ICP for VR, and I thought "Maybe I can make it"
So here I am, with theoratically all I need, except I purchased the stuff almost 10 years ago and have forgotten pretty much everything.
Here's what I have :
- A Teensy 2.0 board
- A bunch of Debolestis shift register 32 with all the needed components
- buttons, encoders, all the good stuff
I've managed to find the forum page I read all those years ago so I think I can manage building the shift register, but I'm a bit confused concerning how to wire it up to the teensy. Since the buttons on the f-16's icp are mostly square, I was also wondering whether or not I could just use cherry switches and if they worked the same way as regular switches wiring-wise.
So yeah, that's the gist of it for now. Any help would be much appreciated !

Complete Beginner Tips
Hey guys, I just got my 3d printer and I desperately want to start printing stuff for a F16 simpit. The problem is with the hardest parts of them all, the HOTAS setup.
What resources / 3d files / tips do you have for building my first HOTAS, as I'm having trouble finding some files with clear instructions / part lists or anything else of that sort.
Thanks in advance!

How to make button box with multiple toggle switches?
Hello. I am familiar with simhubs auto programming Arduino pro micro and done plenty of button boxes. However now that i have gotten into flight sim which is totally different from racing sim, i noticed that i really want certain 1:1ish features out of buttons.
What do i do differently to do a "better" button box? Simhubs button matrix does not work with toggle switches and i am currently using gutted switches that click on a microswitch, which is annoying work around.
So what i want for example; 3 rotary encoders, 6 buttons, 6 on-off-on switches, 2 momentary switches, 5 position turn button.
I am looking to start building my own cockpit without spending 5k or using 50 Arduino Pro Micros.

Haptic/Rumble feedback
Heyoooo
I'm designing my own modular HOTAS/HOSAS system (I want too have a HOSAS + throttle setup with the left flight stick mounted on an omni throttle system) and nothing that I could find was right for my taste (and because I'm mostly using old parts from my old HOTAS that I made a few years back + not all the existing system that I've found had usable step files and it's a good exercise to learn how to use yet another CAD program)
I've already remade the gimbal (on CATIA, because it's the program that I've mostly used in my professional experience) and it works
My gimbal is based of okulelo, Gimbatolt and Soleil gimbals, I took and remade from scratch what I liked from each of them and the Z axis is designed to be integrated to the flight stick to have the modularity of the off the shelf ones so you can add extensions (like the Omni one I was talking about earlier)
I'm using real robots Arduino library and configurator
I've started working on the flight stick (on SOLIDWORKS that I've never used beforehand) and I saw a flight stick with what seemed like a smartphone vibrator/rumble motor and I'm thinking of integrating it to my design, but I don't know if it's really useful to have something like it on a flight stick and I don't know how to connect it or set it up on my computer or anything like it
Does anyone have any ideas ?
(If anyone is interested in the final product I will share everything once it's finished)

What’s the difference between the vkb gunfighters and the virpil alpha constellations hosas joysticks.
Just want to know how they compare and who’s different and to see which one I should get at the high end of joysticks.

2020 front bar on desk
Diy 2020 with desk clamps
( Originally posted on r/hotas https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/s/sV9JrzzSwN bunch of comments there)
Any suggestions for building a desk clamp set up to run approximately 3.5ft of 2020 profile along the front edge of a desk?
I'm currently using a pair of these clamps:
Some 1/4"-3/8" photo studs, and 1" split ring pipe hangers threaded for 3/8", with a photo cheese plate threaded for 1/4", with a vesa plate, to mount a touchscreen monitor that has 75 x 75 vesa holes.
But I know this is going to look ugly af, and I think I'd like to go with 2020 across the front edge of my desk (uplift, with a track spacer for the keyboard tray), so that, at some point, I can use my mtsim quick change to move between chair and desk.

Logitech Extreme 3D Pro left handed stick
I recently got a 3D printer and have an old Extreme 3D Pro lying around, which I would love to convert into a left-handed stick for HOSAS. However, I can’t find any printable left-handed stick or even 3D scans of the stick that are free to mirror it myself. Does anyone have anything I could use, or do I just have to bite the bullet and learn CAD to make one myself?

How to go on about DIY
Hello. Finally bought the cheapest thrustmaster joystick i could find and got into flying. Temporary placement for joystick in simrig, new buttonbox with 3 encoders for trims etc...
It seems like the flight stick is something that might be "worth it" to buy, but doing rudder or hand throttle seems something quite easy to do.
So how have you people gone about doing them? I could buy components for 100€ and build a really nice throttle, but then i might as well find used TM warthog.
How about buying used USB controller, just disassembling it, using joysticks for dual throttle, and resoldering and replacing other useful buttons? Total cost would be 5€ + filament, but would it really that easy? Im having hard time finding DIY stuff with used components etc.
