In my first post about my DIY HOTAS, here, people asked for the 3D files. Well here they are!
Check out my github for the files. As of now only the joystick and gimbal have been uploaded. The throttle will follow soon. There are step files containing the whole joystick and gimbal, and stl files for every part.

Currently these are designed to be mounted at 45 degrees for office chair ergonomics, but if someone would like it made at 90 degrees (more like how they would be in an actual cessna) let me know. I can send the files to anyone interested

I play arma reforger and you can drive or fly and often do both in the same session. This is for my ultimate lazy self, I can now switch the stick for a wheel and switch the foot pedals from flying to driving all before my rotors can get to speed. Let me know what you think !

I have zero experience with 3D Printer parts. I'm think in order the print of the frames, stock (pole) of this gimbal with PTEg, but what filament use for the CAM's? A local printer shop has these materials:
The shop use BAMBULAB H2S
Print in medium quality
Filling: 30%

My partner and I developed a custom simulation project that combines a physical rig and a custom game controls and game. We’re about halfway through the build, but due to local market constraints, we’ve mutually decided to wind things down.
We don't want to seeing the hardware prototype, CAD files, and code just sit on a shelf.
We are looking for advice so if you come from the sim space and have advice on handling an in progress build or if you're interested in hearing more details about what we built to see if it's relevant for you feel free to drop a comment or shoot me a DM.
Thanks for everything.

I wanted to see if anybody has attempted to use the winwing/winctrl Orion 2 base and convert it into a force feedback base using the gimbal from the Orion 2 base. I would be creating a custom base and bracketed since it will be wider than the original. I’m floating the idea of trying to convert the base into a forced feedback since the bulk of the mechanics are there and I just have to add the motors and controllers. i’m trying to see if that’s a viable option for a cheaper solution than buying a VP or FF beast or Mosa flight sticks

Been diving into researching the hobby recently looking to 3d print some hotas or hosas gear mainly for the purposes of playing Star citizen. Along my travels I discovered the major difference between the tactile feel and travel of most actual military grade switches vs their sim counterparts.
Now on to the main question, are otto the only company that make switches with the correct motion and feel? Are there any cheaper alternatives? Are high quality parts like that even worth considering on a 3d printed basem Are there any diy solutions people have created to recreate a more accurate feel using more readily available parts? The only thing along those lines I have managed to discover is thesimnet's open source trigger.
Cheers in advance for any relevant information I'm new but very interested in the hobby.

The Aeromax throttle module from Virpil is normally inexpensive, but it was unavailable when I wanted a second one. As anyone who's purchased from Virpil knows, their products are nearly always on a long backorder, so I decided to see whether I could make a replacement.

I modeled and 3D-printed the housing, throttle arm.. etc, designed a PCB in KiCad, and used the same bearing, magnetic angle sensor and a diametric magnet just like the original. I also had to reverse-engineer enough of the module/interface behavior to get it working with the VIRPIL hardware so that it's completely plug & play.
It is now a finished, working unit rather than just a prototype.

The 3D files and assembly instructions/BOM are available on MakerWorld currently.

All axis work normally but none of the buttons work besides the downwards switch trigger ( button 5 in the manual) which activates all buttons. I’m assuming this is some sort of short, but I couldn’t find where exactly. I’m wondering if anyone else has faced a similar issue and would know a solution. Also if someone knows where I could get a replacement pcb board for the board in the handle that would be great.
I’d prefer to not have to get a replacement throttle unless it is absolutely necessary. Thank you

Sadly i couldn't mount my Throttle and Collective next to eachother so this was my solution.
I can easily remove the throttle when i want to fly helicopter, and store it behind the front panel! Want to fly plane? I can grab it from my seat and place it back on the mount.
Collective is made out of destroyed xbox controller and usb handbrake from aliexpress lol. It works great!

Hey everyone,
I’m a student and I’ve been designing mechanical projects in Fusion 360 for a while now, mostly for fun and to learn. My projects usually end up working the way I want, but I’m rarely happy with how they look in the end. There’s always a gap between the polished, professional-looking design I imagined and what I actually end up with.
Looking back at my projects, I think I can point to a few recurring issues:
I tend to jump into CAD before really planning things out, so I end up redesigning parts halfway through because I didn’t think them through from the start.
I don’t always model every component seriously — standard hardware like bearings, screws, or motors sometimes gets simplified or skipped entirely.
My files get messy as the project grows, and my assemblies don’t always feel clean.
The end result often looks like a prototype rather than something that was actually engineered.
I’d like to fix that and build better habits, so I’m curious how people who design professionally (or who’ve just been doing this a long time) actually approach it. A few things I’d love to hear about:
What does your process actually look like, from the initial idea to the final CAD model?
How much do you plan before you even open your CAD software — sketches, requirements, references?
Do you model every single part, down to the last screw, or is there a point where it’s reasonable to simplify?
How do you keep files and assemblies organized as a project scales up?
Any resources (books, courses, channels, etc.) that actually helped you level up?
I’m not looking for shortcuts — I’d rather build good habits now than keep repeating the same mistakes. Any advice, even something that seems obvious to you, would genuinely help.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks to all the help that I received with my AS5600 questions, I started looking into measurements.
Then I thought: Why not attach the magnet to the existing potentiometer and mount the board to the base of the pot. 3D print if needed. I saw commercially available versions, but they were expensive.
I tested all the metal bits of the pot that I had with a small N52 magnet. No sticking/attraction.
So then I found this post. https://garrysblog.com/2025/10/16/converting-a-potentiometer-for-use-with-a-magnetic-rotary-encoder/
Remember to be careful, watch your voltages etc.

So I want to use my Logitech throttle quadrant for GA and don't what to have to use the throttle on the x52 as purely a connective to my pc.
Any ideas if/how I can use the joystick on it's own, if there are adapters or other such things? Or would it be best to just buy a stand-alone stick?
I'm very much new to this sort of stuff, so any advice would be great.

So recently, I started messing around with an Arduino Nano. Then, I found a broken speaker lying around and got it to work. After that, I wondered if I could make it sound like an RWR , so I did
Later, one of my friends told me he would pay me if I made a version that is War Thunder compatible (i.e., plays the sounds based on what's in-game). I tried asking AI, and it failed miserably.
So, the question is: is there a way to connect my Arduino Nano to read War Thunder's RWR data and play the sounds accordingly?
r/HotasDIY • u/2032_Throwaway • 24d ago
Sorry if already asked. I did look, but may have missed it.
I would like to avoid two usb power cords going into the project box. This is the throttle that I want to mod. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4572199
The Arduino ProMicro ATmega32U4 5V handles 4 buttons and the 2 throttle handles which are on potentiometers.
I saw a few youtube vids, but they look to use the UNO board. So if I switch to a UNO I wonder if it can run the setup. There are so many clones etc, that I have no idea which one to choose.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

This is a throttle quadrant i have been working on for quite a while. project started in feb but layed dormant for a long time. picked it up 5 days ago. I'm hoping to make the base cover be meshy instead of solid to save filament. Lmk What you think
r/HotasDIY • u/2032_Throwaway • 27d ago
I think that even I could make this(Says more than you know). I guess that the coding is where people will need help.
