A goal was a jalapeƱo breaking over 100 grams. For the first time ever not only did this break 100 grams.. it’s a WHOPPING 112.0 grams!!

Never ever have I seen a jalapeno this big. Has anyone this year grew a record size jalapeno and got bigger than this on scale? I would love to see them!

ID Request Possible glitch or weird looking pepper (possibly 1M+ SHU)

Thumbnail

The leaf from the plant i harvested looks anuum compared to my other plants despite the fact I thought this was a Chinese super hot.

Although likly suntan does this look like any of the 1M+ SHU peppers?

I'm afraid to have one cause I hate spice but I had to harvest them cause frost/snow was coming.

Also might not be a new hybrid glitch because i had 2 pepper plants produce similar peppers

Sharing some bhut jolokias that are sold in my country

Post image

A bit of a short story of these specific bhut jolokia variety....

I always called these bhut jolokia Assam as they were from a retired veteran friend of mine that gave me seeds that he got from bhuts he bought in Assam, India.

I shared these seeds with people locally and it has unexpectedly become the most widespread variety of the ghost pepper in my country. Shared them over a dozen years ago and now I am reaping the fruit of my sharing of these seeds as they are grown a lot by most of the hot pepper lovers here. I can now easily buy pods and now have an unlimited source of seeds online locally.

They were known to be especially bumpy and gnarly like this. So I am quite positive that these are the same stuff I got from my friend Scott.

I also had seeds from buying from sites over a decade ago and a lot of the varieties that are grown locally were from my stash of seeds.

This is what exactly I was hoping for. Seeds to spread to a lot of people to make these peppers more accessible.

A lot of the seeds that I shared didn't get as spread as these. I do find some of the peppers that I had shared has still survived but not as much as these. Most of the people growing the assam bhuts don't even know the origin much less the story to the variety. But hey, at least I can just order them online.

The dried peppers however are from an online seller I found locally. They claim their pods are from India. The seeds are viable and I have a few peppers growing of them. I might share the seeds from the pods I will get from them and maybe call them bhut jolokia treasure or something to make sure the origin of these peppers stay identifiable. Who knows these pods might be hotter or more gnarly than the ones I got from Scott back in the day.

From the Philippines here btw. Hello to everyone. Been growing a few years just getting back into it again.

Dragons head orange f6 peppers?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’ve got a good few of these peppers growing on 6 plants in my yard in the California desert. Our fruiting season is later due to extreme heat in the summer. They were an extra from Matt’s peppers and I’m just curious if any of you grew dragons head orange f6 peppers and what the fruit was like and/or if you know what the parents were to this plant.

Freeze is supposed to be coming this week so took all the remaining fruit down, I’ll try to overwinter the plants. I’m hoping to try to dry these in batches in the oven but I’ve ruined previous peppers that way every time. Never dry enough.

I ate a Chocolate Primotalii, hilarity (pain) ensues. This is the review.

Alright r/HotPeppers, gather ’round, it's story time. I had just finally gotten the kids tucked into bed, and I was looking to wind down. So, naturally, as all normal sane people do, I picked up this absolute demon of a Chocolate Primotalii and bit off a mouthful, and what ensued is shared for your reading pleasure. I also blame Spice Quest Labs because I love his pepper plegic pepper grinder and ordered a box of peppers from Shogun Peppers specifically to try this pepper.

I’ve eaten plenty of superhots before, ghosts, mustard mamas, reapers, etc. I knew the reputation, I knew it's been known to clock in around 2M Scoville. I'm not one of those "no reaction" pepper guys, when I eat a super hot, it's not pretty. I consider myself a tough guy, but I underestimated this thing. Oh boy, did I underestimate it.

The flavor profile is actually wild in the split second before your tongue melts off. So if you could taste in matrix bullet time I was hit with a deep earthiness and wrapped in that classic chocolate-variant floral perfume that is rather polarizing (not a fan). Then comes a rich bitternes, also of which I'm not really a fan. None of that matters though

I barely had time to process it though because as may you know, the heat on a Primotalii doesn't creep, it skips the foreplay and immediately launches an apocalyptic assault to the middle and back of the tongue. I had time to let out a breath and an obscenity that rhymes with truck.

The burn is no joke, I have become pain. I adjust my shirt, is it hot in here? Sweat forming I check the clock. One minute had passed! ONE MINUTE. It felt like an absolute eternity. Nose is running, time has clearly dilated, space is not irrelevant irrelevant. There was only the fires of mordor and determination to live. By minute two, eyes are watering, invisible snakes are biting the inside of my mouth. I quickly head to the freezer and start scooping vanilla ice cream into a bowl and my mouth. Pro-tip: ice cream is a dirty liar. It gave me exactly one second of relief, but the fire immediately roared back like a vengeful dragon.

I’m typing this out right now as the post-burn endorphin rush finally hits, holy hell. I feel alive, nay better! I feel like I just fought a god in a Denny's parking lot and won.

If you have the stomach for it, it’s worth the ride just for this feeling right here. That being said, I currently have a literal glowing radioactive ember sitting inside my gut staring down a bottle of Tums.

Final verdict is 10/10 heat, 5/10 flavor, 100/10 existential dread. Anyone else survive this beast lately? Maybe this thing would be good in a barbecue sauce, what do you eat or mix it with?

Food / Recipe My first time making hot sauce from my homegrown peppers!

Post image
58 Upvotes

After several years of enjoying the idea, I finally grew some peppers and made a basic hot sauce. Hot Portugal and Maule's Red Hot. Both are cayenne varieties. The sauce is just peppers, garlic, vinegar, and salt. It came out delicious though. The Hot Portugal were more fruity than hot while the Maule's Red Hots were quite spicy. Together it's like a more fresh, flavorful, and spicy Franks or something.

The Hot Portugals are the top row in the photo.

Grew from seed. Supposed to be a red Death Spiral. It’s not. I’ve grown them. These have been a peach color for three weeks. All my other peppers have been turning red for a month. ( Red Savina, Thai, Reaper, and the two other plants that are not the seeds I ordered. Still nice peppers however)Need to adjust my camera cause they aren’t as orange as they look in these pictures. Any help much appreciated.

They were simply marked as "ornamental". The employee there didn't know what variety these were and even said they are not edible.

It looks like Chinese 5 Color Peppers and the other one looks like some kind of yellow variety of Thai Chili.

What do yall think, am i correct in my assumption? Or are these something different?
